Gameplay of the hidden character Drahmin in PS2 version of Midway’s/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance.

Drahmin is one of the most difficult characters in the game to unlock, so you think he’d be worth it. He isn’t. It appears that Drahmin was actually meant to effectively be a playable version of Moloch, given that their stories are interlinked and they both fight with blunt weapons.

Here’s the problem with Drahmin. He can’t combo. At all. In a game which relies heavily in comboing. He has four special moves as a way to make up for it, but that doesn’t really mean much because single, heavy attacks do not win in this game. His design as well is absolutely horrendous, being a rotting zombie with flies swarming around him. He looks a parody of a supervillain. “What’s this? A superhero gathering woefully underpopulated by flies? My ‘ball of flies™’ ought to put a stop to that.”

While he has no innate combos, Drahmin can technically air juggle. Air juggles tend to severely reduce the amount of damage dealt. Other special moves see Drahmin using a ground pound, swinging his arm about like a wind-up punch, and even…his own rising uppercut attack. Yes, he basically has his own shoryuken. He really does feel like a joke character on the whole.

Ultimately, I really don’t care for Drahmin, and I’m perfectly happy that he was dropped after this game. The only other noteworthy thing about him is that he actually loses his mask when he changes into a fighting style other than his default one, which is vaguely interesting I won’t deny. He also has the ability to recover health using his R1 move, which is pretty interesting and understandable given his limitations, also it takes too long to really be worthwhile. Other than those points, Drahmin is simply too experimental to be enjoyable, like so much in this game.

We will still be seeing Drahmin again, however.

Next up, it’s time to move onto the super-secret characters of the game.
