There recently have been multiple reports of swimmers in the Hamptons being stung by stingrays. The onshore population is larger than I have ever witnessed in the past 7 years of flying drones. Yesterday, I witnessed hundreds of cownose stingrays in what is called a “fever” or group of rays just a few feet from shore and at times inside the breakers. These rays are not aggressive to humans, but if startled or stepped can punch a very painful sting. It is suggested to shuffle your feet in the sand while swimming to deter them from getting close to your feet. This drone footage was taken 7/24/25 at Road D Beach in Southampton, NY.
