CBC Docs | 100 years old but still fertile @CBCdocs | Uploaded July 2024 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
This old female snapping turtle is just waking up from winter hibernation underwater, taking her first breath of air in months. After warming up her body in the sun's rays, she's ready to start the next generation. She might be 100 years old or more, but that means she's more fertile, laying up to 100 eggs on the sandy shore. After that, the heat of the sun will determine which eggs develop female babies and which ones become male. #TheNatureOfThings #snappingturtle #sun #summer
