Did you know fungi were once the tallest lifeforms on the planet? 360 million years ago, in the Devonian era, there were no trees yet, and the only animals living on land were invertebrates. But enormous fungi called Prototaxites towered over the landscape. They were megafungi that could grow up to eight metres tall.
