Here's the 100 BookTube Videos Tag (an original) to celebrate producing 100 videos on BookTube.

Questions/Prompts

1. How long did it take you to get to 100 videos?

My first was April 29, 2021, and today is June 13, 2022, so a little over a year 1 month.

2. Look back at your first video. How does it make you feel?

My first video is just uncomfortable youtube.com/watch?v=qFtXUf-KM5Q&t=142s. I’m not sure where to look. I purposely made the background dark, but it wasn’t a great decision. I just didn’t know what to do.
3. Which video has been your most successful?

My most successful video is the comics/graphic novels video from my 2021 bookshelf tour youtu.be/6XuhnkLMQTA. Its has just of 1,400 views from 10 months ago. Close on its heels is my unboxing video of the 40th Anniversary of CODEX SERAPHINIANUS at 1,300+ views youtu.be/EfAODeqVf20.

4. Which video are you most proud of?

It’s hard to choose. I like my MOBY-DICK review youtu.be/fVnKfMPAy2o but maybe my first original tag, The Whale Tag youtu.be/G1tJDPT5uC4, is what I’m most proud of, or maybe my video about what I’d learned about sperm whales youtu.be/agXpMtBjg_0.

5. Which video has been the biggest disappointment?

So many of my early videos were rough. I’m not really disappointed with the videos I’ve made, but I wish my review of DOCTORS AND FRIENDS had received more views youtu.be/_cXDQf-lzmY. It’s a great book!

6. Has your channel changed over the course of producing 100 videos? If yes, is there a video that stands out to you as being a turning point?

The first month or so of my channel were done through a webcam on my laptop. Eventually, when I couldn’t edit them, I switched to my iPhone. I film and edit everything on my iPhone. The turning point was my first JAWS vlog youtube.com/watch?v=Rqz9Q40EbDU&t=17s.

7. If you organize your videos in playlists, is there a playlist you think is especially interesting?

I organize most of my videos into fairly broad playlists. I think the most interesting would by the Whales and Dolphins playlist youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe6KONtypE2mCwEDK6dECbBjJA86QnPpQ or my Moby Dick playlist youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe6KONtypE2nrfaLLgW-62W80Nv4w7MAg, but there are other playlists which include many of the same videos, and more. All of the playlists offer something a little different so I’m happy with all of them. I like how my Spotlight playlist has turned out too youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe6KONtypE2kFQ82YsvuIU1n6-Mm2PXyE.

8. Which video did you put the most work into producing?

My first (and currently only) bookshelf tour was probably the longest, but I eventually broke up the tour into smaller pieces so people could view of subject. My Tsumura Collection collection video youtu.be/2HWbxxS2U00 was probably the most work to pull off, but I think it came out great and is really complete.

9. Are there certain videos your subscribers seem to like?

I don’t know. I like to throw random fun clips into videos, which people seem to appreciate when they see them. My least popular videos are reviews, but my most popular videos seem to be about books I am able to cover before many other people, such as my review of John LeCarré’s SILVERVIEW youtube.com/watch?v=mtM4mEn-lDU&t=58s.

10. If you could give a new booktuber one piece of advice for hitting 100 videos, what would it be?

Do the videos you want to do. Don’t do what you think will be popular for everyone else. You’ll be your first subscriber. Things will get better, and smoother, and you’ll become more comfortable. Give yourself time and be forgiving.
