In 1959 Alaska and Hawaii became the last two states admitted to the Union, bringing the total number to 50. But it was not set in stone that 50 would be the final number. From the early days of American independence, a number of possible new states have been proposed. Some were small, like Long Island or a tiny section of Delaware. But others were large and stretched on for miles. In this video we look at ten proposed states that nearly came into existence, but never did.
