San Miguel del Allende has a reputation for being expensive - but how much can you do on a budget of $10 in this beautiful city? San Miguel de Allende is a famous tourist destination and a favorite spot for expats who want to retire in Mexico. As a result, prices are much higher than in other Mexican cities. But is it possible to enjoy San Miguel on a budget.
San Miguel de Allende is full of beautiful restaurants and rooftop bars overlooking this stunning place. These were all out of my price range for today, though. By challenging myself to enjoy San Miguel de Allende on a budget, I was able to find out more about this artistic city's fascinating history and how the expat population has helped it grow into what it is today.
Living in Queretaro, just an hour away, I had always considered San Miguel de Allende to be an expensive city. Since it also has a high population of expats from the United States and Canada, I wondered how this affected local people so I spent a few days in San Miguel de Allende to find out if it really is too expensive for the average Mexican and how the local Mexican population has been affected by the large number of expats who want to retire in Mexico or live in Mexico and who are increasingly choosing San Miguel de Allende as their new home.
