Research Updates and Project Progress
The Open Research Institute's projects meeting covered several key updates. ORI delivered content for FCC TAC's Charter Item 2 on spectrum management models, which will be further discussed in a weekly meeting later today. A complex modulation math article is scheduled for publication in ARRL's QEX magazine in September/October. Peter Wyckoff completed Part 2 of his article series on delay doppler channel modulation techniques for EVE, with applications to EME and terrestrial amateur communications. The team also made progress on Opulent Voice, implementing a configuration manager, audio device manager, and automated self-tests to ensure code quality and catch potential bugs.
Transmitter Development Progress Update
Michelle has been working on developing a transmitter that can send data streams to either an SDR or to another computer. Over the past week, a configuration manager was implemented to handle various settings, and an audio device manager was developed to manage audio hardware. An automated test suite was also created to ensure the program's functionality, exercising basic operations, audio-related tasks, networking selection behavior, and different operating modes. The development team plans to continue working on the project and all code is published at ORI's GitHub github.com/OpenResearchInstitute/interlocutor
DVB-S2 Encoder Integration Progress
Aaron reported progress on integrating the DVB-S2 encoder into OpenCPI, which required enabling support for VHDL 2008, a feature requested for some time. He explained the challenges involved in porting the encoder to other platforms beyond the Pluto SDR and mentioned ongoing work to resolve these issues.
Interlocutor Codebase Issue Resolution
The team discussed progress on the Interlocutor codebase, noting that they are resolving more issues than adding new ones, which is the desired trend! They encourage team members to review the issue tracker, particularly the broader discussion items and feature requests, and provide their input. The goal is of course to eventually reduce the number of issues to zero, but the issues tracker will remain an important communications resource for development and deployment.
