When the Germans were bombing England, many took to underground for safety, and it is rumored that they would sometimes sing songs even as bombs were dropping, to keep up morale. Considering that many of these people were women, children and the elderly, this is quite a remarkable show of grace under pressure. "We'll Meet Again" was actually written in the late 30's but Vera Lynn made it famous during wartime, and if you pay attention to the lyrics, it's not hard to see why. In the recording they include a large group of people singing to represent these groups of people who sometimes sang while on the edge of death.

![Old Man Time-Travels - Read Description [For Honor]
The comments you all left in my last video (for anyone who needs it) overwhelmed me with gratitude as well as sympathy for what some of you have gone through. I wanted to write to all of them and instead wrote the poem at the end of this video. My heart is with you all.
I find a little escape in video games but writing (really slowing down my thoughts to focus on images that bring forth greater meaning to my life) really helps me so much more. The prompt for this video is:
Your narrator or speaker describes something that is confusing to them. Then something happens. (***Dont be afraid to write from an emotional place that is true to your life but use your imagination and take time with your images!)
***Music in this video: Maliblue dream sequence - Gregg Kowalski

Summer solstice, will I be able to read the language on the welcome mat in front of death’s door? Will I feel beneath my feet the cushion of the welcome as I step forward? Maybe writing is my way to slow down time so I can throw time, like the Milky Way – across a page, or screen. My DNA says I’m 100% star. I might get some Chromium yet out of a single moment, just as blues and greens, in my wife’s eyes, also form in wood when it’s petrified underground along with carbon and oxides of iron. Once upon a time that petrified wood stored sunlight, before it turned into a stone that blossomed colors of a bursting galaxy. Look it up if you don’t believe me. If you dont believe me, try burying these words in your heart.

![The Old Man on Simple Joys - (Read Description Please) [For Honor]
SIMPLE JOYS - The old man and his wife always tried to be kind to each other. They enjoyed laughing, even if it was over the smallest thing, because laughter often comes from shared pain, and each of them knew great loss.
Many of their kin and closest companions had lost their lives in battle, or to sickness; some had taken their own lives. They wrote on their walls a list of pleasant things, things that made them feel calm. He couldnt remember whose idea it was, nor could he remember, as more time passed, who wrote each item, but he remembered the list word for word:
The sound of rain on leaves
in the middle of the afternoon,
when the sky’s a golden grey.
Hand-pulled noodles
in a golden broth.
Soil, plants, clouds and ocean.
A plaid pattern on a kilt.
Watching the horses run,
the ones with amazing names.
Also, the really free horses
humans cannot name.
Being quiet enough
to understand
something.
Thoughts that are lyrics
others can sing one day.
Victory is fighting
for what is right; it is
also strength to love
when the fight is over.
And laughter! Our laughter!
So what,
if we cant explain
what was funny
to begin with?

![WW1 Letter from a Soldier to His Love
FROM A LETTER dating between July & September, 1918, during the Great War (to end all wars)
[Date Redacted]
Dearest Cara,
My One and Only Beloved, I hope this letter finds you well. I’ve been sent ahead of the rest to [redacted]. I am meant to train some of our boys when they arrive, so I’ll be studying the trees and hills as well. The bombs are like clockwork earthquakes. Fritz is never far off.
I’ve been put with a Highlanders Regiment. Despite looking like they are painted in blood, mud and exhaustion, they have greeted me warmly. We shared some “bully” stew and biscuits in between bombs going off. They wanted to know why Im here before the other Americans. Before I could answer, their captain said I’d been sent “on account of a steady hand” to learn [redacted].
I stand out like a damned shiny buckle. Men nearby are missing ears, or they have both eyes but simply do not see a foot in front of them. Faces and shoulders in ditches lack flesh whatsoever below the shoulders. Worst of all there was one man who could not talk but only laughed uncontrollably, and he was shot for insubordination.
Some of my fellow soldiers do not believe that you, my soon-to-be-wife (an Irish girl from my own hometown a whole ocean away) is a nurse outside Paris, not far from the hell where I write this letter.
My dear Cara, I now understand that you - and other nurses like you - are the angels who must heal wounds unlike any in history, far beyond the poor ether.
Sometimes the enemy trenches are so close, the fighting so continuous, it seems like the whole affair is actually two large beasts, each made of many souls, in a single duel, repeating day by day. You may kill the same man tomorrow, whose name is different but whose face you saw yesterday – until you feel you might float away, along with the pear drops, on the wind itself.
Were all Berserkers here, one man said, giving me a hatchet for close quarters.
I leave you with a good story, my Dear:
Last night I gave the Regiment my last name. The oldest of them – his Scottish accent as thick as my grandpa’s – said to me, You are descended from a warrior with incredible skill with a Claymore. But moreover, so legendary was his love for his wife – it transcended life and death itself.
This soldier then recited a poem by Yeats and asked me to commit it to memory – with my remaining ink, I will share it with you.
But first, I must tell you: I have no fear of death, my dear Cara, and I will make haste to reach the enemy, and put an end this war, so that you and I may may be hand in hand, walking along the river, once again home.
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.
-William Butler Yeats, 1890
Ever Yours,
Aengus

In the comments: They say that the eyes are the windows of the soul. If you were to peer into the wilderness of your own soul what would you find and how would you share that wildness with others? Is your soul an empty canvas waiting to be painted with the fullness of your own life? Is your soul an unwritten map for a long road ahead of you, a journey into an unrestrained landscape, a place full of undiscovered treasures waiting to be opened? Is your soul eternal? What does your soul have to say that you are unaware of? What does your soul already know that that you might have forgotten? What is waiting in the wilderness of your own soul and how do you want to share it with others? Use images and metaphors and similes and analogies or even rhyme scheme and descriptive language to show what you want us to see.

— No Breaking Point — There I was late at night listening to someone talk about W.B. Yeats’s poem “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” and I was thinking it was an OK talk, I’ll make a playlist for everyone and include it. I’ll make a few playlists. Make a music playlist everyone’s been waiting for. But at some point I thought about how I understood the poem in a way that this guy couldn’t explain, either. And before I knew it, I was transported, in my mind, back to a time before there were any innernets and I was an old man, and I knew there was a place for me, in her heart, I heard it always, like the low sounds of the lake water lapping, and I knew how fast thoughts traveled, and that some of them never stop, even if you want them to, and this was so great a feeling that I wanted to cry. What was funny: I laughed. And I laughed. And I laughed so hard that I cried.
How would you render the absurd?
