𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐦:
copy the weston6_enabler folder to usb:/Apps and launch the program from the Autobleem Apps menu. To reach the Apps menu, press Start at the main screen and Select Twice.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐄𝐫𝐢𝐬:
copy the weston6_enabler folder to usb:/project_eris/etc/project_eris/SUP/launchers
and launch the App from the Project Eris carousel.
There are two ways to init Weston:
𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐀𝐌: This is 100% safe as it doesnt modify anything internally. The Weston files are launched from RAM. Once you power off it returns to stock. You will have to enable it each time you boot up. Also works on Stock PSC
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥: This installs it permanently to the rootfs1 partition. It remains there even when you power off. The stock weston files will be renamed with a _bk suffix (ie weston_bk) and then itll will extract the weston6.tar.gz package into the rootfs1 /usr directory. The weston 6 install files are about 4.92 MB in size.
*𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠* Although Ive tested it extensively, modifying the internal contents always carries a risk of bricking. You never know if there could be a power outrage. Be careful and proceed with caution. Ive added a md5 checksum to the weston6.tar.gz file so just in case the file gets corrupted or changed it wont install.
𝟕.𝟏𝟕.𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: for those on Autobleem 1.0.0 and higher, it doesnt go fullscreen with the stock pcsx emu. to fix it, navigate to usb:/Autobleem/lib and replace the libs.tar.gz file with this one

Launch the Weston Enabler App, head to the Internal section and click UNINSTALL. This will remove the Weston 6.0 files and rename the stock weston files back to its original name.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞:
The App makes a backup of the Rootfs1 partition and stores it in the weston6/Backup folder.
Unfortunately you cant restore the Rootfs1.img while its in use. I suggest booting Debian from USB and restoring it in there

You can also use previous methods such as Fastboot or the Project Eris and Autobleem tools. Restoring is not necessary. Uninstalling should be enough, I provided a Backup solution just to be safe.
𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰
The PSC comes bundled with Weston 1.11.0 which uses something called wl_shell which has long been deprecated. Most modern Apps use xdg-shell. This updated Weston 6.0.0 build adds support for xdg-shell and is also backwards compatible with wl_shell.
The reason we havent seen any new RetroArch updates for the PSC is because libretro dropped wl_shell support in 2018.

The way Eris and Retroboot got around it was they modified the code to revert the changes to add wl_shell back which is a constant uphill battle. Back in 2024 I requested they add wl_shell back

Around that time I compiled RetroArch 1.14.0 and it didnt work initially. But I tried it on this new Weston 6.0.0 and it does work. Its the only App I have on me that requires xdg-shell so if you want to try my build, here you go

The audio doesnt work though. Ill like to compile the latest Retroarch later and devote a standalone release for it.
I mainly wanted release this to coincide with my upcoming Mario Kart 64 PSC port. I noticed it plays much smoother on this updated Weston. the stock one has this jitter issue where it during playback
Weston 6.0.0 Enabler was made with RPG Maker VX Ace
𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞, if you ever used some of my other releases that has a Terminal such as Ikemengo or mkxp-z, the old terminal I provided in those Apps dont work on Weston 6. You will have to use the newer one that came with Weston 6. Its saved in /usr/bin/weston-terminal
so youll either have to copy the newer weston-terminal in those old projects, or you can modify the launch script to have it point to the new weston-terminal. for example, in the mkxp-z launch.sh script you will see this
./terminal
you can simply rename that
/usr/bin/weston-terminal
and itll launch from the new terminal instead of the old one.
If you want that Weston Panel that displays on top, you can edit the weston.ini file at weston6_enabler/weston6. Just delete panel-position=none

place the pcsx_rearmed_libretro.so file in the retroarch cores folder. in Autobleem its located in usb:/retroarch/cores. for project eris its located at usb:/project_eris/opt/retroarch/config/retroarch/cores
last week i made a video comparison between the retroarch ver of pcsx rearmed and the standalone pcsx rearmed included in the PlayStation Classic and the stock psc ver looked better because of its ability to switch color modes from 16bpp to 24bpp where retroarch is fixed at 16bpp.
well I spoke to Notaz the maintainer of the PCSX-ReARMed project and he recently added a option for RGB32. This basically forces the color mode to 32bpp upon launch and improves visual banding problem. Ive tested it with various games and FMVs look much better and I havent noticed any difference in performance so it should be okay to enable.
from my observation however, i still feel that the stock emu looks slightly better in my eyes. Color space seem a little different, maybe thats an improvement. heres my previous video if you wanna check it out:

Note: if youre on Autobleem 1.0.0 or older and want to launch this updated core by pressing Square on the Autobleem menu, you can edit the launch_rfa_rom.sh script located at retroarchretrobootbin. search for NEON and replace km_pcsx_rearmed_neon_libretro.so with pcsx_rearmed_libretro.so
