Joby AviationIn January 2024, our team welcomed back the Federal Aviation Administration's Office of Airports to Marina, CA, as we carried out a flight test campaign focused on landing accuracy and precision.
Following on from the propeller wash testing we completed in August, three different Joby pilots conducted 31 take-offs and landings onboard the aircraft.
The flight test campaign demonstrated the aircraft's operational characteristics as part of the FAA's ongoing work to refine vertiport design guidance while also demonstrating our ability to use existing heliports.

#Joby #JobyAircraft #eVTOLHighlights from Flight Testing of Joby’s Full-Scale, All-Electric Prototype AircraftJoby Aviation2021-08-11 | Joby recently completed a new round of flight testing on our full-scale prototype aircraft. Take a look to see some of the highlights.
#Joby #JobyAircraft #eVTOLHow Quiet is the Joby Aircraft During Flyover?Joby Aviation2021-08-02 | We recently flew a series of aircraft flying over an array of calibrated microphones, demonstrating the low noise profile of our prototype electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and setting a benchmark for the industry.
In addition to the Joby aircraft, the ‘parade’ of aircraft included two fixed-wing airplanes and three helicopters of a similar size — all flown over the microphone array at the same speed (100 kts) and approximate altitude (1570 ft).
“We set out to develop an aircraft that mimicked natural sounds, like the wind in the trees or the sound of the ocean. It’s just amazing to hear the contrast between existing aircraft and what we have developed over more than ten years of hard work and focus on acoustics,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby.
We aim for our aircraft to blend into the background environment of communities in which we operate, enabling aerial ridesharing without any compromises, which we intend to launch in 2024.
Check out previous videos on our channel for demonstrations of the Joby aircraft's low acoustic profile during take-off and hover.

#Joby #JobyAircraft #eVTOLFlying 150+ Miles with Jobys Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft (eVTOL)Joby Aviation2021-07-27 | Joby recently completed what we believe is the longest eVTOL flight to date, exceeding 150 miles in a single flight, including a vertical take-off and landing. The 1 hour 17 minute flight was achieved with a full-size prototype earlier this month during developmental flight testing.
Commenting on the milestone, our founder and CEO, Joeben Bevirt, said: “We’ve achieved something that many thought impossible with today’s battery technology.”
“By doing so we’ve taken the first step towards making convenient, emissions-free air travel between places like San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, Houston and Austin, or Los Angeles and San Diego an everyday reality.”

#Joby #JobyAircraft #eVTOLHow Quiet is the Joby Aircraft during Hover?Joby Aviation2021-06-10 | How quiet is the all-electric Joby Aviation aviation aircraft in hover? Here’s our founder JoeBen Bevirt with a calibrated sound level meter and an explanation!
“Over here behind me is our aircraft in hover. At 55 dB, this is more than 1000 times quieter than a helicopter taking off at 90 dB.
As you can see and hear, it is not just quiet quantitatively, but also qualitatively, with noise that blends into the background.
It is not the low frequency ‘wop wop’ of a helicopter that travels for miles and penetrates buildings, nor is it the high-frequency whine of a drone.
Our goal was to mimic the character of natural sounds like the wind or the ocean.”
