Leonid Kharitonov (Леонид Харитонов)The Russian operatic and chamber singer Leonid Mikhailovich Kharitonov (bass baritone) performs the Russian folk song "Here's the Postal Troika Rushing" accompanied by the Osipov Orchestra of the Russian Folk Instruments, the conductor is Nikolay Kalinin.
This is the clip from the musical TV-show of the artist "Russian Song, Romance, Waltz", the Central Television of the USSR, 1987.
Short description of the song: Winter. The mail troika is rushing along the frozen Volga river. The coachman, a young guy is humming some sad tune shaking his head. Then a friendly passenger asked him , why he looked so sad. And the coachman tells him his life story. He told him that he had been fallen in love for already a year. But the village headman, the infidel Tatar, scolded him all the time about it. Very soon Christmastide would come and his beloved should marry another man, rich and hateful one... And that she would never see again those beautiful days they had... The coachman told the story, stopped his troika and gave a deep sorrowful sigh...

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Here's the postal troika rushing Along the Volga river in winter. The coachman is humming some sad tune And shaking his head.
"What are you thinking of, young lad?" - A friendly passenger asked him, "What torments your heart? Tell me, who made you so sad?"
"Oh, dear sir, my good sir! It's been a year since I fell in love. But the village Tatar headman Scolds me for it, and I have to endure it!
Oh, good sir, Christmastide will come soon But she will never be mine again! A rich and hateful one took her away from me, So she'll never see the beautiful days again."
The coachman finished his story And put away his harness whip. "Hey, restless horses, stop!" - He said and gave a sorrowful sigh...
ORIGINAL LYRICS:
LATIN TRANSLITERATION:
Vot mchitsya troika pochtovaya Po Volge-matushke zimoi. Yamschik, unylo napevaya, Kachaet buinoi golovoi.
«O chem zadumalsya, detina? - Sedok privetlivo sprosil: - Kakaya na serdce kruchina? Skaji, tebya kto ogorchil?»
«Ah, milyi barin, dobryi barin! Vot skoro god, kak ya lyublyu. A nehrist' starosta-tatarin Menya jurit, a ya terplyu.
«Rodnye... Stoi, neugomonnye!» - Skazal, sam gorestno vzdohnul.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
This song came from my father And from my quiet mother It's about the fields that go from the porch To the big cities and the seas.
Refrain: My land, my land, meet me! Meet me, the green one! The loving soul called you And led to you!
And in spring, longing is sharper - In the spring I dreamed in the distance That a darkened clod of earth Lies on my palm
Refrain
Everything in my destiny has changed, Cities and fields are left behind. I return to you again, My blue-eyed fate...
Refrain
The day is slowly slipping away, I'm looking at your window. Do you want to spend the sunset together? And let's meet the dawn together.
Refrain
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
He was just a titular counselor*, And she was a general's daughter. He modestly confessed his love But she sent him away! Sent him away!..
The titular counselor went away And was drinking the whole night long. And in the wine mist she floated in front of him The general's daughter! The general's daughter!..

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Oh, if I could express in sound All the strength of my sufferings The pain in your soul would subside, And the murmur of doubt would subsided.
And I would have rested, my dear, Having told you all the suffering. Listening to the cherished sound, Your heart would break.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
The bell sings under the horse arc, Under the arc, under the elm arc. A daring guy is taking a girl to a ride, A black-browed girl. The guy flattered the shy girl, He lured her after him Into the wide steppe on a dark night.
Well, cuddle up to me, honey, closer, I will ride with all my might I will rush my black horses It's all for you, my sweetheart. Hey, we'll fly across the wild steppe, my little bird, Your cheeks will be hot, will be sweet to your heart!
Only the wind can see us here in the steppe, Don't be ashamed my love! The bright hour has come for our love - Long awaited time! The guy flattered the shy girl, Lured her with a hot caress This night, this dark night.
He cuddled his sweetheart closer, He rode with all his might And rushed his black horses It's all for his sweetheart. Hey, we'll fly across the wild steppe, my little bird, The girl's cheeks became hot, will be sweet to her heart!
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Blow, wind, to Ukraine, Where I left a girl Where I left brown eyes... Blow, wind, at midnight.
There is a valley between the mountains, There is a hut in that valley, There is a girl in that hut, My darling sweetheart.
When her heart starts beating When she sighs sadly, When brown eyes start to cry, - Come back, wind, at midnight!
And if she forgot me And caressed someone other, Then let the wind blow over the valley And don't come back from Ukraine!..
The wind is blowing, the wind is blowing Heart is beating, heart is melting, The wind is blowing and does not return, And my heart pitifully freezes.
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

*TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:*
Glorious sea, sacred Lake of Baikal* Glorious ship, omul* fish salting barrel. Hey Bargouzeen* stir the waves helping me I'm sailing not far, I'm a brave man.
Long as I wore my unbearable chains, Long as I wandered the Akatui* hillsides, My old friend had helped me to flee from the jail, And I came to life feeling freedom.
Shilka* and Nerchinsk* don't frighten me now, Mountain guards couldn't manage to catch me, Ravenous predators never touched me in woods, A bullet from guards never hit me.
I walked at night and amid the bright daylight, Passed by the towns looking tensely around. Rural women have offered me bred, Lads shared me some makhorka*.
Glorious sea, sacred Lake of Baikal, Glorious sail, my caftan* full of holes. Hey Bargouzeen* stir the waves helping me, I hear the thunderstorm's coming. I hear the thunderstorm's coming. ___________________________________________
* Baikal - a large and deep lake in Siberia that is famous for its chrystal clear water. * Omul fish – a type of fish endemic to Baikal. * Bargouzeen – a type of strong Baikal wind. * Akatui – a settlement in Baikal region where there was a most dreadful hard labor jail in Tsarist Russia. * Shilka – a river in Baikal region and one of two rivers that give birth to large Amur river by their confluence (the second river is Argun); also a settlement under the same name. * Nerchinsk – a town in Baikal region where silver mining industry was developed. The town was a place of exile and a hard labor jail. * Makhorka – cheap backyard grown Russian tobacco surrogate. * Caftan - a type of old Russian simple garment like a long shirt or robe, often with a girdle.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
On a sunny glade Arching an eyebrow, A boy plays a song about love On his accordion. About how he spent hot nights With his girlfriend, And what beautiful shawls He used to give her.
Refrain: Play, play and tell, My accordion itself About how the black-eyed one Has droven me crazy.
The soldier in the midst of smoke and gunpowder Never parted with his accordion. And in a fierce battle with the enemy He finally deserved a medal. A flying letter came To the snowy distance, Saying that she is waiting for him, And agrees to see him with the medal.
Refrain:
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

If the Volga mother Would flow back, If only life Could start over.
If only the bottom of the sea Сould be measured! If only beautiful girls Сould be trusted...
Oh, if only flowers Could bloom in winter! If only we could love And never stop loving...

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
In the coastal vines, On the high steep slopes - There we loved and grew up. Oh, Dnieper, Dnieper, You are broad and powerful, The cranes are flying over you.
You saw the battle, Dnieper-Father river - We went on the attack under the mountain. Those who died for the Dnieper, Will live for centures, Because they fought like heroes!
The enemy attacked us, So we left the Dnieper. The mortal combat thundered like a storm. Oh, Dnieper, Dnieper, You are flowing far away, And your wave is like a tear.
The enemy's drinking water From your rapids, And he'll choke with that water. The glorious day has come, - We are going forward. And we'll see you, Dnieper, soon again!
Let the blood of the fascists hounds Flow like a river, The enemy will not take the Soviet land! Like the spring Dnieper, All the enemies will be swept away By our Army and our people!
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

"The Sacred War" is undoubtedly the song most closely associated with the terrible struggle that the Russians endured during the Great Patriotic War. A.V. Alexandrov wrote this music on 22 June 1941, the day the Nazis invaded Russia. The words are a war cry, and it is said that this song was one of the influences which gave Russia the courage to defend itself.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Arise, the huge country! Arise for the mortal battle With the dark fascist force, With the damn horde!
REFRAIN: Let our noble fury Boil as like a wave! The national war is going on! The sacred war!
Let's reject the suppressors Of all ardent ideas, Those tyrants, the robbers, And torturers of people!
The black wings should not dare To fly over our motherland! And its spacious fields The enemy does not dare to trample down!
Let's shoot a bullet into the foreheads Of the rotten fascist evil spirits! And for the scum of mankind Let's hammer together a strong coffin!
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Where the air is wounded by the flight of a projectile, Where the field is pitted with bombs all around, For the Russian land, for the honor of Leningrad The Marine Corps is fighting the enemy.
The grass in the glade is flattened with iron, Behind the tank, the infantry crawls along the ground. In a broken trench, the helmsman from the "Marat" Left alone on the coastal cliff.
And the helmsman from the "Marat" fights to death Like a banner, raising his peakless cap. Hitting the enemy with the last grenade, He accepts death in an unequal battle.
But a company is hurrying towards the tanks, And the canпons roll forward under the bullets. Friends-gunners, marines - Baltic people, iron people!

The second part of the clip features an excerpt from the patriotic military song "Soldiers, on the way!". Music - Boris Alexandrov, lyrics - Ernst Mikhailov
This is a clip from the musical film "I glorify the Fatherland" produced in 1975.
Brief history of this cantata:
In 1972, the 50th anniversary of the formation of the USSR was celebrated. The Ministry of Culture of the Soviet Union announced a competition for the best large-form musical work dedicated to this event. The artistic director of the Red Banner Ensemble, Boris Alexandrov, invited the poet E. Mikhailov in order to write poetry for a cantata, with which he was going to participate in the competition. Together they developed a theme that is typical for the army creative team: the theme of the oath of allegiance to the Fatherland.
Soon the cantata was written, orchestrated and arranged for soloists of male, children's and mixed choirs. The screening was attended by members of the jury, leaders of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy, as well as the Minister of Culture of the USSR E.A. Furtseva. As a result, by the decision of the jury, the cantata "We swear to you, Motherland" took the 1st place in its nomination at the competition. The authors received honorary awards.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Like the winds from the mountains Soldiers trumpet to gather - The road is far from the threshold. And, dropping the handkerchief, So that no one sees A tear was wiped away by a girl's hand.
Refrain: Don't cry, girl, The rains will pass. The soldier will return - You just wait. Let your faithful friend Be far away - Love in the world Is stronger than separation.
Walked a little - Not yet a general, But maybe I'll become a petty officer. Forgive me for not being able To say that I will be brave And that you will be my wife.
Our sergeant major Has military orders, And I have all this ahead. But you, love, mind The honors badges, Which are now on my chest.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Goodbye, towns and huts, The long road is calling us Young, brave guys Go on a campaign at dawn.
Come out girls at dawn To see off the Komsomol detachment. You girls do not be sad without us - We will come back with victory!
We will dispel the enemy clouds, And will clear the obstacles on the way The enemy won't escape inevitable death And will not pass his grave!
The great hour of reckoning has come The people handed us weapons - Goodbye, towns and huts, We go on a campaign at dawn!
(Missed versus -

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Where does the Motherland begin? It begins with a picture in your primer, It begins with good and faithful comrades Living in the neighboring yard.
Or maybe it begins With the song that our mother sang to us, With the fact that in any challenges No one can take away from us.
Where does the Motherland begin... It begins with the cherished bench at the gate, It begins with the same birch that grows In the field, bending under the wind.
Or maybe it begins With the spring song of the starling And with this country road, Which has no end in sight.
Where does the Motherland begin... It begins with windows glowing in the distance, It begins with an old father's budenovka*, Which we found somewhere in the closet.
Or maybe it begins With the sound of wagon wheels, And with the oath that you took to her In your heart in your youth.
* Budenovka - is a distinctive type of hat, an archetypal part of the Communist military uniforms of the Russian Civil War following the Russian revolution (1917–1922) and later conflicts. Its official name was the "broadcloth helmet". It was named after Red Army cavalry commander Semyon Budyonny. It is a soft, woolen hat that covers the ears and neck. The cap features a peak and folded earflaps that can be buttoned under the chin.

*TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:*
On the bright May nights The fights have died down and ended. Where are you now, fellow soldiers, My combat companions?
I walk at a good sunset hour At the brand new pine gates. Maybe a fair breeze will bring А familiar soldier to us here...
We would recall how we used to live, How we lost count for difficult versts. We would drink to the bottom for the Victory And would add one more for the friends.
If you happen to be unmarried, You don't be sad, my friend Here in our region rich in songs The girls are pretty damn good.
We will build a good house for you, In order to be seen all over: The family of the Russian hero lives here, Who defended the country with his chest.
On the May short nights, The fights have died down and ended. Where are you now, fellow soldiers, My combat companions?

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
A snowstorm sweeps along the street, My dear is following the snowstorm; You stop, stop, my beauty, Let me have a look, my joy, at you!
To look at your pleasant beauty, To look at your white face. You stop, stop, my beauty, Let me have a look, my joy, at you!
Your beauty drove me crazy Withered your good fellow. You stop, stop, my beauty, Let me have a look, my joy, at you!

Conductor is Konstantin Vinogradov. This video recording was made in Prague during the tour of the Ensemble to Czechoslovakia in June-July 1948.
In the full text of the lyrics of this song, a young girl tells how sad and unhappy she is. The reason is that she lost her beloved one, whom she was in love with and with whom she was very happy. It is all the worse that now her parents are forcing her to marry a widowed man and she is not interested in him. Moreover, this widower is severely devastated by the loss of his wife, and the girl is afraid that even if she marry him, he would not be able to love her properly because he had already given much of his love to his first wife.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Ah, not here, not here, what made me happy Ah, not here, what pleased me before! All what I liked - flowed away with water. Ah, not here, what pleased me before!
How to plow without a plow and a horse? How to plow without seeds? After all, such plowing is like love, Like love without kisses.

ORIGINAL LYRICS (SHORTENED):
Ach, není tu, není, co by mě těšilo, ach, není tu, není, co mě těší, Co mě těšívalo, vodou uplynulo. Ach, není, tu není, co mě těší.
Jaké to vorání bez pluhu, bez koní, jaké to vorání bez koleček? Takové vorání, jako milování, jako milování bez hubiček. _______________________________

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
I look at the sky and think: Why am I not a falcon? Why am I not flying? Why, God, did you not give me wings? I would leave the earth and fly into the sky.
Far beyond the clouds, away from the world, I'd seek for my destiny and for peace And ask for affection from the sun and the stars, And drown my longing in their bright radiance.
Indifferent fate does not need me since childhood, I am just its laborer, a stray boy for it. I am a stranger to my destiny, a stranger to people. Who will love a child that is not their own?

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
I was going on a campaign then To distant lands. She waved her handkerchief at the gate, My beloved.
The brave Second Infantry Platoon Is my family now. It sends you a greetings-bow, My beloved.
So that my days rush faster In campaigns and battles, Smile at me from afar My beloved.
There is your photo In my little pocket. So, it means that we are always together, My beloved.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
The postman brought me your letter And again you ask a question How do I serve? Who are my friends? How often do I go to the city? I would like to tell you And you explain it to other girls How much beloved one means in the fate Of a soldier ... Of a soldier!
The day begins - we have long been in place, The shadow falls - we're already at the post. Wether it's raining or wether it's snowing - Our platoon is on duty. So the rumble of ominous explosions Wouldn't scare off your dawn, They stand at the posts and stand at the rockets - The soldiers ... The soldiers!
Everything ceases after the "lights out!” command And again I will stay with you. The soldiers' beds are standing nearby, Whispers of the guys are heard. And I remember the days of spring - How we met once. All night good dreams come To soldiers ... To soldiers!
If suddenly a crazy thunder hits, Thunderous noise, fire rain, Our military squad will go To defend our homeland. Soldiers will carry away The scent of freshly-cut birch trees. The country and love will be protected by soldiers ... By soldiers! ________________________________

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
On the bright short nights The fights have died down and ended. Where are you now, fellow soldiers, My combat companions?
I walk at a good sunset hour At the brand new pine gates. Maybe a fair breeze will bring А familiar soldier to us here...
Our collective farm will build a house for you, To be seen all over: The family of the Russian hero lives here, Who defended the country with his chest.
On the May short nights, The fights have died down and ended. Where are you now, fellow soldiers, My combat companions?

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
At twelve o'clock at night A drummer rises from a coffin; He goes back and forth, He quickly sounds the alarm. And this drum awakes The mighty infantry from dark coffins: There are good fellows of the chasseurs, There are old men grenadiers, Rising from under Russian snow, From magnificent Italian fields, Rising from African steppes, From the hot sands of Palestine. At twelve o'clock at night, At twelve o'clock at night.
At twelve o'clock at night a trumpeter comes from a tomb; He gallops back and forth, And he loudly blows the alarm. And his trumpet wakes up Mighty cavalry from dark graves: Grey-haired hussars rise, and cuirassiers with big mustaches rise; And there are squadrons are flying from north and south. They are galloping from east and from west, On spectral horses one after another, At twelve o'clock at night, At twelve o'clock at night.
At twelve o'clock at night a General Commander rises from his coffin; There is a frock coat over his uniform; He has a small hat and sword He slowly goes along the rows of his men riding an old battle horse And his marshals go behind him, Also aides-de-camp go behind him; And the army salutes him. The commander stops in front of it, And numerous regiments pass by him playing music. At twelve o'clock at night, At twelve o'clock at night.
At twelve o'clock at night, He gathers all of his Marshals, And he whispers in the closest one's ear His password and the slogan. And they give it to the whole army The password and the slogan... "France" was their password! And "Saint Helena" was their slogan! At twelve o'clock at night, Rising from a dark coffin In front of his old soldiers Appears the dead Caesar! At twelve o'clock at night, At twelve o'clock at night!

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Amid the noisy ball, by chance, In the alarm of worldly vanity, I saw you, but a mystery Covered your features.
Just the eyes looked sadly And the voice sounded so wonderful Like the ringing of a distant fife, Like a playing shaft of the sea.
I liked your slim figure And all your brooding look And your laugh, both sad and sonorous, Sounds in my heart since then.
In the hours of lonely nights I love to lie down tired - And I dream of the sad eyes, I hear the cheerful speech.
And sadly I fall asleep And I sleep in vague dreams ... Do I love you - I don't know But it seems to me that I do!

В часы одинокие ночи Люблю я, усталый, прилечь — Я вижу печальные очи, Я слышу веселую речь;

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS: (The original Russian song lyrics contain a lot of "old" Russian language words so the translation below is approximate).
Do not be sad, dear father, Why are you shedding tears, mother? Being a soldier is our fate, Oh, to serve by faith and truth!
To slurp cabbage soup with your boot, father, And to eat porridge with a bayonet, mother, A soldier can do everything on a campaign, Oh, belly is not a trifle!
That soldier is not a soldier, father, Who is afraid of a bayonet, mother, The bullet doesn't hit us, the bayonet doesn't pierce us, Oh, the Russian power is strong!
...................... A soldier can do anything, mother, And when he sings - the sky is trembling! Oh, the song is wonderful!
Nightingale, nightingale, little birdie, Canary-bird sings plaintively. One sings, two sings, three sings, Canary-bird sings plaintively.
We will end the war, father, We will return home, mother, And we'll play weddings, for sure! Oh, the girls are tired of waiting!
Nowadays, a soldier, father, Remembers the glory of the fathers, mother, I reached Berlin for a reason, Oh, and let the one who forgot remember!

ORIGINAL LYRICS:

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Once I followed the trail On the border of the territory, And I met a girl Carrying pies.
Oh, I heard, I heard, I heard Oh, I heard, I heard And I met a girl Carrying pies.
My dear girl, You know my dreams That I love you, And pies with cheese as well.
Oh, I heard, I heard, I heard Oh, I heard, I heard That I love you, And pies with cheese as well.
When the girl heard The Cossack's words and dreams, Then she immediately invited him For fresh pies.
Oh, I heard, I heard, I heard Oh, I heard, I heard Then she immediately invited him For fresh pies.
And when the happy time has come Which they were waiting for - The girl started kissing me But I was eating pies.
Oh, I heard, I heard, I heard Oh, I heard, I heard The girl started kissing me But I was eating pies.
And suddenly the hunters appeared - They weren't enemies But they took the girl with them Along with the cheese pies.
Oh, I heard, I heard, I heard Oh, I heard, I heard But they took the girl with them Along with the cheese pies.
The Cossack wept bitterly: You are the worst enemies! Leave the girl for yourself - But give me back the pies.
Oh, I heard, I heard, I heard Oh, I heard, I heard Take the girl for yourself - But give me back the pies... And with cheese!

This song was considered to be a Russian folk song for quite a long time. In fact, the song lyrics and music were written in 1860 by the composer, writer and folklorist Ivan Petrovich Larionov and the song was first performed on an amateur stage in Saratov in a play for which he wrote the music. And soon at the request of the famous singer and creator of the folk song choir Agrenev-Slavyansky, Larionov put this song into the choir's repertoire. So the popularity of the "Kalinka" song began with the Slavyansky Choir.
The song gained world fame in the arrangement of the composer and conductor, the People's Artist of the USSR, Professor Alexander Vasilyevich Aleksandrov (1883-1946). And since that time and up till now the song was widely performed abroad by the Alexandrov Red Army Ensemble.
This is a clip from the musical movie "When soldiers sing" about Boris Alexandrov and the Alexandrov Red Army Choir, 1975.

Alexandrov. This is a clip from the New Year musical TV show "Blue Light". Central Television of the USSR, 1968.
This song is from the series of the coachmen's songs which were very popular in Russia before the revolution. According to some reports, more than a hundred of them were written. The poem of this particular song was written by Prince Pyotr Andreevich Vyazemsky, a nobleman and a friend of the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. It was first published in 1832 or in 1834. Initially, the poem was called “Another Troika” and was created as an answer to another poem written by Fyodor Glinka called “Troika” (“Here’s the mail Troika rushing”), also about coachmen. One can say that it was sort of a battle between the famous poets of that time.
There were several composers who wrote the music for this poem. Among them were: in 1857 - A. Dubyuk, in 1865 - Pavel Bulakhov, in 1876 - A. Katenin, in 1913 - P. Karasev. But it's so happened that the most popular among the people was the melody created by the composer Pavel Petrovich Bulakhov, who was also the famous singer of the St. Petersburg imperial troupe during those times.

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
There in the distance, behind the river The lights were turning on In the clear sky the dawn was burning out. Hundred young fighters From the Budyonnov's troops Rode in the fields for reconnaissance.
And the fearless squad Galloped to the enemy. A bloody battle ensued. And a young fighter Suddenly lowered his head - The Komsomol heart was holed.
ORIGINAL LYRICS:

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
There is a cliff on the Volga river covered with wild moss From its top to its bottom And it stands there for hundreds of years covered with moss Knowing neither need nor care.
Nothing grows on the top of it Just the free wind floats around A mighty eagle made his hideout there And there it torments its victims.
Only one man among all others was on that cliff Only he was able to get to the top And the cliff didn't forget this man And from then on it was called by the mans name.
A lot of thoughts were born in his head. He thought of many things that night. And under the sound of the waves, In the midst of the silent night He planned a great thing...
And that cliff is still there and it still keeps All the cherished thoughts of Stepan (Razin) And along with only the Volga river it remembers sometimes The glorious living of the rebel leader

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Once a dark-eyed Cossack girl Shod my horse. She asked for a small amount of money not highly valuing her work. "What's your name, young lady?" And the young lady replies: "You'll hear my name In the clatter of your horse's hooves."
I rode along the street, I galloped the roads, And along the path among brown rocks, And among gray rocks. "Masha? Zina? Dasha? Nina?.." None seem to be her name. "Katya! Katya!" - was sounded to me By my racer's horseshoes.
And since that time, whether I ride Or whether I gallop - "Katya, Katya, Katerina..." I diligently whisper. What a muddle-head I am! Because I have another girlfriend! But I cannot get Katya, like a song, Out from my soul, brother!
Once a dark-eyed Cossack girl Shod my horse. She asked for a small amount of money Not highly valuing her work. What's your name, young lady? And the young lady replies: "You'll hear my name In the clatter of your horse's hooves." "You'll hear my name In the clatter of your horse's hooves."

ORIGINAL LYRICS:

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Why are you depressed, Vasya, Lowered his head? Your clear eyes now look dim, Frowning, unhappy...
You used to go into battles with jokes What happened suddenly to you, Vasya Vasilyochek? Oh, dear! Oh, Vasya-Vasilyok! Oh...
Refrain: Sadness doesn't suit the soldier Do not let your grief overcome you Even if there's a reason Never be depressed Do not let grief get inside Never be depressed! Do not be depressed!
For almost five weeks already There is no letter from the post. You see, my bro, My heart wants some endearment!
Beating the enemy is a different matter - It's better done jokingly. If there's no letter from your sweetheart - Then your thoughts are darker. Oh, dear! Oh, Vasya-Vasilyok! Oh...
Refrain
But if she is not going to write Then she has forgotten me Then I shall understand That she has never loved me.
Why are you, Vasya, my big friend, Torching yourself that way? If she loves you with all her heart, Then you'll get good news! Oh, dear! Oh, Vasya-Vasilyok! Oh...
Refrain
Keep our shoulders close to each other! Our friendship will stay! If your heart is hot, Then you'll find a girl for you! And if today it hurts don't be sad, Tomorrow will be your day! Hold your head high, Vasya-Vasilyochek! Oh, dear! Oh, Vasya-Vasilyok! Oh...

TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
One day in the summer at dawn I looked into the neighboring garden There a dark-skinned Moldavian girl Was collecting grapes. I blushed, I turned pale I suddenly wanted to say to her: "Let's go to the river And meet the summer dawns!"
Refrain: Green curly maple tree, carved leaf, I'm in love and embarrassed about you Green maple, and curly maple, Curly all over and carved one!
And the dark-skinned Moldavian girl Answered the guy in a way: "We are assembling A Moldavian Partisan detachment. The partisans left their homes Early this morning, - This path will lead you To the partisans in a deep forest."
Refrain: Green curly maple tree, carved leaf, We'll part with you here at the maple tree! Green maple, and curly maple, Curly all over and carved one!
And the dark-skinned Moldavian girl Went along the path to the forest. And I felt hurt about that That she did't invite me to join her. Every night I thought about The dark-skinned Moldavian girl. Finally I met my dark-skinned one In the Partisan detachment!
Refrain: Green curly maple tree, carved leaf, Hello, boy! My good one, my dear! Green maple, and curly maple, Curly all over and carved one!

The popular military march from the times of the Civil War “In the valleys and on the hills” (other names: “The Partisan Song”, “The Partisan Anthem”, “The March of the Far Eastern Partisans”) performed by the choir of the Red Banner Song and Dance Ensemble of the Soviet Army named after A.V. Alexandrov. Music - unknown author, possibly Dmitry Pokrass, lyrics - P.S. Parfyonov, S.Ya. Alymov. Conductor - Boris Alexandrov. The drummer is Jacob Raikhman. Subtitles - English, Russian and Transliteration (Russian Latin).
This video recording was made in the building of the Big Opera named after May 5th in Prague during the tour of the Ensemble to Czechoslovakia in June-July 1948.
The song tells about the battles of the Red Army with the troops of the Amur Provisional Government in the area of Spassk, Volochaevk and Vladivostok cities in the final period of the Civil War.
However, it is believed that for the first time it sounded based on the lyrics written by Vladimir Gilyarovsky in 1915 and it had the initial name - the “March of the Siberian Shooters”. And those shooters sang it in the first years of the World War 1, leaving for war. There were several other lyrics variations based on the melody of this march during the Civil War: - The White Guard March of the Drozdovsky Regiment (1918) - The Anarchy Anthem of the Makhnovists (1919) - The March of the Far Eastern partisans (1922) - The Song of the Volunteers of the ROA (1943)
In 1929 A.V. Alexandrov and the Red Army Ensemble included "The Partisan Song" in their repertoire, while Parfyonov’s lyrics was edited by the songwriter Sergei Alymov. But in 1934, a collective article appeared in the Izvestia newspaper, which indicated the name of the true author of the lyrics - Pyotr Semenovich Parfyonov. The author of the melody was declared as the Red Army commander of one of the units of the Ukrainian military district Ilya Aturov, since A.V.Alexandrov personally heard the song's melody from him but in fact that wasn't true.
This melody has become an anthem of the struggle for Mother Russia as for the Siberian shooters, as for the White Army, and as for the Red Army as well, and even for the Makhno's army as the Anarchy anthem. It all turned out very symbolically - the Motherland is one for all and the melody is the same for everyone, but only the words are different...

THE TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
In the valleys and on the hills The division was moving forward To capture Primorye in a battle - The stronghold of the White Army.
The Banners poured With the red color of the last wounds, The dashing squadrons Of the Amur partisans were marching!
The glory of those years Will never fade away! The partisan squads Conquered cities and towns.
It'll stay like a fairy tale Like alluring lights The assault nights of Spassk, Those Volochaev days.
They defeated the chieftains, They dispersed their leaders And at the Pacific Ocean They finished their campaign.

LYRICS IN RUSSIAN:
__________________________________________

TRANSLATION OF THE SONG:
Oh, you wide steppe, The immense steppe! You, mother steppe, Stretched so wide!
Oh, this is not a steppe eagle Rising. That is the Don Cossack Walking around.
Oh, don’t fly, eagle, Low to the ground. Oh, don’t walk, Cossack, Close to the riverside.

RUSSIAN LYRICS:
_____________________________________
