Will Elden Ring: Nightreign Be Canon? Garrulous Goldmask 2024-12-13 | I scoured every interview and piece of preview material I could find to see if Elden Ring: Nightreign will be canon. As for the gameplay, Nightreign is a completely new roguelike Elden Ring spinoff that you can play either solo or in three-player co-op. Although it's co-op focused, there's no PvP, invasions, or covenants. Instead of character creation, you can choose one of 8 characters who each have their own special abilities and backstories that you can uncover while playing. And rather than starting out as a Tarnished in Limgrave, you play as a Nightfarer in Limveld. (Veld means field.)The Roundtable Hold will be the player's hub in between runs, where you can buy custom skins, emotes, and organize Relics, special buffs that can be carried from run to run. Miquellas Great Rune was Mistranslated | Elden Ring DLC Lore Garrulous Goldmask 2024-08-13 | Here’s what it actually says. Elden Ring is a massive game that weaves together so many different mythologies and traditions, some things are just bound to end up lost in translation. Most infamously, Ranni's Age of Stars ending had very different implications between the English and Japanese versions. Unfortunately, the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Ring has another mistranslation for another Demigod Empyrean. This time it appears in Miquella's Great Rune. According to its description, this was “a Great Rune relinquished by Miquella. Broken and bereft of its bounty, it retains naught but the power to resist charms. Miquella set off for the tower enshrouded by shadow, abandoning everything—his golden flesh, his blinding strength, even his fate.”Now the mistranslation comes from the final line of the description: “All in an effort to bury the original sin. To embrace the whole of it, and be reborn as a new god.”はじまりから続く因果を超えて 全てを抱く、新しい神になるためにBut in the Japanese, there is no mention of sin at all, “original” or otherwise. Instead, the key concept is “causality” or 因果 (inga). And that is the same kanji used in the spell Law of Causality. So, Was Melina the Gloam-Eyed Queen? Or Her Vessel? | Elden Ring Lore Garrulous Goldmask 2024-08-04 | Even though we didn't get official confirmation about the Gloam-Eyed Queen, the Elden Ring DLC still gave us plenty of new clues about her identity. That includes new lore from Messmer and even the Putrescent Knight, which is labelled in the internal game files as "GloamEyedKnight." In this video, I offer two theories for why Melina has that gloam eye in the Flame of Frenzy ending. I also make the case for why Messmer and Melina were most likely twins, why the congealed putrescence is related to the silver tears and the Godskins, and why the Gloam-Eyed Queen was chosen by the Three Fingers to oppose Marika. So, who was the Gloam-Eyed Queen? Even though she's only mentioned in four item descriptions, the Gloam-Eyed Queen is one of the most impactful characters in Elden Ring. The Gloam-Eyed Queen led the Godskins and wielded black flame, which once had the power to slay gods. But the Gloam-Eyed Queen and her Godskins were ultimately defeated by Maliketh, who sealed away the true power of the black flame when he sealed away Destined Death, also known as the Rune of Death. The Gloam-Eyed Queen was also rumored to be an Empyrean, chosen by the Fingers, a rare status that would put her on par with Marika, Miquella, Malenia, and Ranni. ALL of the Cut Lore from Elden Ring’s 1.00 Version Garrulous Goldmask 2024-06-11 | I doubt you could even imagine how much got cut.The Elden Ring 1.00 version is effectively an official rough draft of the game's lore. To access the unpatched 1.00 version of Elden Ring, all you need is a disc copy of the game and a console that isn't connected to the Internet. FromSoft also has a history of reusing cut content, which is why I wanted to get this video out before Shadow of the Erdtree.In this video, I restored ALL of the Elden Ring lore that was cut by the Day 1 patch, which includes lore for Miquella, Marika, the Albinaurics, the Nox, the Greater Will, the Outer Gods, the Flame of Frenzy, Radagon, the Crucible, the Erdtree, the Greattree, Godfrey, Godrick, Radahn, Leyndell, the Primeval Current, Sellen, Goldmask, Morgott, the Dung Eater, Shabriri, Vyke, Rykard, and maybe even Messmer! Now to get the obvious out of the way, this is all cut content and is no longer officially canon. So do take the lost lore with a grain of salt. But at the same time, I think it would be deeply misguided and myopic to completely ignore everything that's in the 1.00 version. Elden Ring's unpatched 1.00 version is also in a very unique position when it comes to cut content. Cut content usually involves content that wasn't intended for the public to see or play. And we only find about it either through datamining, leaks, or candid interviews by the developers. But the 1.00 version of Elden Ring was the retail version of the game. Overall, the basic outline for the story was roughly the same, while nearly all of the cut scenes and the dialogue were the same between the 1.00 version and the current version, with a few notable exceptions I cover. And this was by design. Now I actually had fun with Starfield. It (somehow) ended up being my most played game of 2023. But the game made so many design choices that were so baffling, they made me wonder why I even liked Bethesda games in the first place.So I went back to my very first Bethesda game, a game that was also helmed by Todd Howard and exclusive to the PC and Xbox: the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. More than 20 years later, the island of Vvardenfell still feels like a much more immersive world than all of the Settled Systems combined. Armored Core 6 is an Incredible Allegory for Alchemy Garrulous Goldmask 2023-10-30 | Even though Armored Core 6 is a mecha game, the game’s story and lore include a surprising amount of symbolism from alchemy. Now the main goal for many alchemists was the Philosopher's Stone, which would famously transform lead into gold. But it was also believed that the Stone could provide a limitless fuel source and extend human lifespans--which is also the case for the Coral found on Rubicon in AC 6. What's more, many alchemists believed they could unlock the secrets of the Philosopher's Stone by studying one substance that bore a striking resemblance to the Stone's properties: coral. In fact, one name for the Philosopher's Stone was "tinctura coralli," or the "tincture of coral."So in this video, I detail how alchemists thought of coral and its clear parallels to the Coral in Armored Core 6.
