Lots and lots of reverse has been used to make this video (to be exact: 441).Note that there seem to be some minor bugs with the music, when a boss or stage is completed. It sometimes seems to start the wrong music and after a second, the correct music is started. Also, there are some areas with hardly any enemies. But for both things I haven't checked on the original unpatched game.
Zanac EX (Compile MSX2 game from 1986) bugs a bit on MSXturboR Manuel Bilderbeek 2022-01-05 | This video shows a bug in Zanac-EX (at 2:01) when running it on an MSXturboR (in this case, a Panasonic FS-A1GT). You may think this is an emulation bug (this is recorded with openMSX), but I own the original game and the same MSX and it shows exactly like this on the real hardware. Did you know about this bug? I for sure did not!Luckily the bug is not fatal: it doesn't hurt the game play at all.In the meantime, some people made a fix patch for the game :)

What a game... basically only has 3 scenes, but they vary a bit each level. I don't even know exactly what the variations are, but watch carefully and you'll see. I really couldn't see a difference between level 9 and 10 anymore, so there I stopped.I originally wanted to make a Tool Assisted Speedrun for this game. But I found it too boring to optimize fully. So in this run you see rather well optimized level 1-5 and the rest is quick but probably not 100% optimized.In the end I just decided to upload it for your enjoyment...Created with openMSX.

CD Sequential game loading on openMSX Manuel Bilderbeek 2019-12-21 | Thanks to p_gimeno, we now finally have the CD Sequential working in openMSX!This is a CD released in about 1988 for the MSX system. You would connect it to your MSX cassette input. Track 1 contains the loader, which is a normally encoded MSX program (like on a tape). I load that program.The loader first wants you to adjust the signal (the volume button on your CD player). For that, there is a signal recorded after the program, on the same first track of the CD. So, the program then sees the signal and in the end it is satisfied with it.Then I insert a wav with track 12 of the CD Sequential cd and the loader then actually finds the program (Burger Kill) and loads much faster than the normal cassette release!

I really love this game. The music is great and the gameplay too, as well as the graphics. Sure, scrolling is choppy, but it never bothered me. Very great game to play.The game was only released in Japan, but in 1994 Oasis released an English translation, which was later enhanced by Randam and others. This is that enhanced English fan translation.I finished the game somewhere at the end of the 90's. It comes on 4 720kB floppy disks.Recorded with openMSX emulating a Sony HB-F1XD with a Panasonic FM-PAC for the sound.Uploaded mostly because I couldn't find a video with the original YM2413 intro in English.

Super Bros. World 1 - Clover - 1991 - MSX - walk through Manuel Bilderbeek 2018-03-03 | A complete walk through of this horrible game. I needed 559 reverse actions in openMSX to create this video. I'm quite convinced that it's absolutely impossible to finish this game on real hardware. The red ghost some levels is impossible to avoid, I was happy I could get through the level with the reverse functionality...In the video you can see also many bugs in this game. The most annoying is the 2 times that you get a fake/empty level instead of a bonus thing (slot machine).About the controls: space is jump, B is fire when you have a flower and it seems that with D you can cheat: get more lives and money. I found this out during the game, hence some pauses and sudden life increments here and there.Finally, the game seems to be unfinished. After world 2 it simply stops, although the message is the same as the one at the end of world 1: the princess is in another world... Enjoy this video, as you won't enjoy the game!Playing on openMSX, emulating a Daewoo CPC-51 Zemmix (hence no MSX intro screen).
Tele Atlas Road Navigator software for Philips MSX2 Computer with CD-ROM player Manuel Bilderbeek 2018-02-04 | This demonstrates the Tele Atlas Road Navigator software, that was supposed to work on the Philips CDR-X1000 CD-ROM player, in combination with the Philips NMS-0210 MSX CD-ROM interface on a MSX2 computer (at that time probably the Philips VG-8230).The run shows the intro of the software, running on an emulated (openMSX) Philips VG-8230 MSX2 computer.At 2:05 I press the F1 key to continue.At the end, the software hangs up. Pixess - MSX2 - Compjoetania - 1994 Manuel Bilderbeek 2017-11-11 | This is a video showing Pixess, by Compjoetania, running on an emulated MSX2 with Moonblaster Stereo (MSX-MUSIC on one side, MSX-AUDIO on the other).The gae is pretty rare, probably mostly because it never was cracked. The copy protection is pretty good. This run was made with openMSX, running it from a DMK-image created with READ-DMK.The game is pretty OK, but I think the level design could be better. The game is way too easy. You never really get bothered by the enemies either... you have so much life that they are not very significant. At least not up to where I played. Also.... 15 levels per stage? Wow.

Retaliator - MGF - 1994 - MSX2 Manuel Bilderbeek 2017-08-31 | A horizontal shmup for MSX2/MSX2+ by MSX Gebruikersgroep Friesland (Jan van Valburg and friends), released in 1994 by Sunrise.In this video I play it on an MSX2+. On an MSX2 the sides of the screen are choppy, exactly like with Space Manbow.The copy I have here seems to be not entirely right as you can see... a couple of bosses have corrupted graphics. Too bad!It's probably me, but several aspects of the game I don't fully grasp:- how does the upgrade system work? I can upgrade the laser twice, but nothing happens when upgrading Missiles. And what is O for? Nothing seems to happen.- how is one supposed to finish this game without using tricks like 'reverse' which I used a lot? It's almost impossible to survive certain parts...So, I guess I'm missing something. Comment to enlighten me!All in all, not too bad at all for a couple of amateurs using screen 4 of the MSX2. Compare with Hydefos! Although that one is smooth at the sides without needing an MSX2+..

The levels are completely random generated, so you can get lucky and get an easy level. You can even get an already cleared level.... (yes, that can be considered as a bug) you'll have to use 2 EXORs to clear it again to continue :)Sorry for the long video, but it's quite addictive... So I just uploaded all of it.As with Ruby & Jade, only today I got this original disk dump working in openMSX (on machines with a WD2793 FDC).Enjoy!

Not Again! by Flying Bytes level 3 - reprise Manuel Bilderbeek 2017-01-29 | OK, so in my previous video I complained that the game is too repetitive as you can't influence the way the ball is going. Appears I was wrong. If you hit the fire button while hitting the ball, you can change the ball's direction! Why I stopped playing Not Again! by Flying Bytes (for MSX2, 1994) Manuel Bilderbeek 2017-01-28 | The video shows my suffering in level 3 of this game... even with openMSX trying to play as perfectly as possible, the game still seriously annoyed me.Firstly it is very hard to get to hit that exit in the bottom right part of this level. Also notice the bug at 4:43. I could never have made that ball...At 13:48 I give up, having no hope that the ball will ever hit that target. At 17:06 the miracle happens, so I try to bounce it back in the same direction as soon as I can to finally escape from level 3 of this game...This annoying behaviour (very hard to really manipulate the direction of the ball, leading to very long waiting before you hit the thing you need to hit) really stopped me from playing this game further.On top of that, the music in the levels is boring (it's way to short/repetitive). The graphics and sound effects are pretty good. The programming itself also seems quite decent. But the playability is just too low.

One of the most impressive interlacing images that have been hand drawn I've ever seen on MSX2. It's a net resolution of 512x424. And yes, really hand drawn, read the scroll text for the details...It doesn't come out very well on YouTube... run this disk on a good MSX emulator or your real MSX to appreciate it :)
