Spoiler-free review of the game:
Lords of the Fallen is a very good Souls-like. My only major gripe I had was a lack of new surprising enemies towards the end of the game. Other than that, the exploration is great, the world interconnectivity is cool, the enemy and boss designs are awesome, the game feels fluid and dynamic, the QoL stuff is stuff that FromSoft should take notes on, the lore is rich and interesting to dig into, and it's just fun to play. I wouldn't put it on the same tier as Lies of P, it's great, but I don't think I'm dying to replay it like the best Souls games. I have tier list below in case you're curious about my preferences. If you've already played things in A and S tier, definitely check this game out. It's more like a B+ rank, very close to A tier. Lords of the Fallen performance was fine on my new PC, only minor hiccups, I think the patches did their job, but you may want to consider how old your PC is before looking into getting the game.

I think if you're looking for a super hard Soulslike that's more Bloodborne/Sekiro-like, best new Souls-like game to play is Lies of P. If you want something closer standard Dark Souls but faster with lots of good exploration and no crazy difficult bosses, this is great one for you. If you wanna play with friends, go play Remnant 2, best Co-op Souls-like.

Replaced NPC dialogue done using ElevenLabs. I was experimenting with it for this video and it's hilarious how accurate (or inaccurate) the voices can be. All I had to do was upload isolated voice clips of characters to ElevenLabs and then type in whatever I wanted them to say, messing with some of the sliders to make them sound more like their in-game counterparts.

Spoiler free review:
This made by the same people who did Hyper Light Drifter and it shows. Amazing music, gorgeous visuals, but now in 3D. And the game really makes use of the 3D space. The scale of the environments and enormous and it super satisfying to traverse.
However, the studio tried something new, they have voice acting now. And it has mixed results. I always hate protagonists talking to themselves all the time. Reacting to every little thing you do, or overexplaining things, or giving unsolicited hints. That said, after getting over that, I really enjoyed the story. I just wish there was more time to get know the cast of characters. An intro cutscene with them would have at least been something to get me invested in them.
The gameplay is a lot of fun, combat is simple, it's more about the platforming off giant buildings and monsters. Feels very fluid, feels great to master. I haven't tried the hardcore difficulty but apparently it starts to really test your speed in that mode, which sounds great.
Overall, I'd still recommend it, but definitely would recommend Hyper Light Drifter first if this game looks intriguing.

Music - Epic Sax Guy Remix By CruzoMoonscars Story in a NutshellTims Games Done Hard2023-04-21 | Moonscars has a interesting and engaging story, but other lore videos are too long and srs, so here's my quick summary of the story.
Spoiler free review: Moonscars is a metroidvania, and is the first game I've played in a while where I was not too excited about the gameplay but stuck with it because the story kept me wanting to know what was happening, why the world the way it was, and honestly just really got invested in the main character.
For the combat, I would compare it most directly with Blasphemous, but a lot more fast paced and a lot more jank. I think I tried to parry too many things that were better off being dodged. Just because you CAN parry something, doesn't mean it's the best option. Though I will say that all the combat mechanics are really great. The whole moon phase system where you can get plunged into hard mode if you die at certain points is like Demon's Souls world tendency, but better. It's just a simple hard mode, on or off, with benefits to XP and money gain, but you can turn off any time by spending a pretty common item. The spite system is also really great, slowly adding in harder enemies the better you do, but rewarding you with temporary upgrades. The skill tree and the way healing is treated are all cool as well.
The art style is where this game really shines. It's such a cool smearing style to the game sprites, it's very visually pleasing. All the special moves looks absolutely amazing, it's a joy to watch. And as I said, the story was actually interesting for once. I've been playing so many games with silent protagonists that it's so refreshing to have a main character that has a personality that you can get invested in. I wanted to know why she was the way she was, I wanted to help her find out what happened, and save who was left in the world.
So yeah, I'd give the combat in this game a 6/10, art a 10/10, and story a 9/10. If you're fine with jank combat in a metroidvania, and you've already played Blasphemous, I'd recommend this.

The Convergence Mod does a number of things. The magic system is completely reworked to now have 12 different magic classes with a ton of new spells, and all spells have been buffed significantly. New enemies and bosses have been added to the game with unique movesets (sometimes borrowing animations from other FromSoft games). And more of the map is connected to allow more nonlinear progression.

Music: Stuff - Otis McDonaldSekiro Resurrection Boss Showcase (Charmless + Demon Bell)Tims Games Done Hard2022-12-25 | After beating Sekiro Resurrection, I wanted to refight the bosses with demon bell and without Kuro's charm. I fought them within the Reflections of Strength, which scales health and damage regardless of your level. With demon bell and charmless, the bosses have absurd health and posture recovery in the reflections, so I had to get really creative to whittle down their health bars.
Some of these were the hardest challenges I've ever done in Sekiro. Corrupted Monk took 3 straight hours of attempts. For Isshin I had to start practicing his 3rd phase with cheat engine, and after spending a solid half hour mindlessly deflecting him, I did an attempt and beat him first try. After THREE DAYS of trying. Not quite as bad as SL1 Malenia, but it's probably top 5 hardest things I've done.

I played Sekiro Resurrection. It's not quite finished, that may be another year or so at the current rate, but it's got a lot more to offer than last year. Not only are most of the main bosses reworked, there are entire new mechanics. The mod was a blast, so here's an absurdly long video chronicling my playthrough.
Recoil Counter explanation: some bosses have some larger attacks that, when deflected, Wolf will recoil from it. In this mod, if your sword shines after one of these large deflects, you can quickly attack to do a quick counter attack that does a lot of damage and has extra range. It's super satisfying.
Bullet reflect: you can reflect bullets back at enemies in this mod, but ONLY in the air. This makes it a real risk/reward move, and I only found use for it on Sword Saint.

Happy Halloween :D
Story spoiler-free review of the game if you're interested:
Grime is a really fun Metroidvania. The combat is really satisfying, and all the bosses were a ton of fun to fight. I don't think there's anything bad I have to say about the combat side of things. The platforming puzzles (at least towards the end of the game) are pretty fun too, even if the mechanics are a little jank at first. The visuals and atmosphere of the game are just superb as well. On the more neutral side, the game is fairly linear. The map is very expansive, but you can't go to major areas out of order. Each area itself is usually designed well though with lots of optional paths, rewards and secrets to be found, and excellent shortcuts for making runbacks quicker.
My only two gripes with the game are a mid-game spike in platforming challenges and lackluster rewards towards the end of the game. The mid-game spike was super annoying because hard platforming challenges were coupled with annoying enemies that chip away at your health, forcing a lot of deaths and long runbacks. This stopped being as bad towards the end of the game where platforming and fighting enemies started to be separated better. As for exploration rewards (a more minor gripe), I wasn't finding really exciting rewards on optional paths by the end of the game. Hunt points were by far the most exciting thing to get late game, as it's the only way to make progress on your abilities in an interesting way, but I would often just find weapon upgrade materials (of which I didn't need any more of), one-time consumables (which while useful, were not that exciting), and lore. Maybe I was just really bad at finding hunt points but I think there should have been more of them towards of the end of the game.
I give it a 5/7, there's a little something for everyone.

Stuff - Otis McDonald Endless Motion - BensoundElden Ring Randomizer FinaleTims Games Done Hard2022-10-21 | Thank you everyone for watching! This run was a ton of fun to play and edit. Unfortunately, this is going to be my last series for a while. I have one more year of my PhD, and series are really hard to focus on and get work done. I still want to make more videos because they're a great outlet for me when I need a break from research, but they will be one-off videos for a while.
So what's next? I got one more Elden Ring video next week, then probably a non-Souls video coming up some time after that. After that I'm not sure, got a long list of mods and games I want to play but not all of it may turn into videos. If you haven't seen it already, I have a poll going on my community tab to vote for what I'll play next. It may not get made into a video but you get to decide what mod to try next!
Some details on the settings I used. The enemy randomizer, by default, scales the health and damage of enemies to match the area they are in. I turned this off. My reasoning is that if I had enemy scaling on, then the run would feel no different than a regular run of the game but with some fun showcases along the way. There would never be the tension of running into an endgame boss in an early game area and being forced to go in a weird progression order. But towards the end of the run, when I'm in the late game areas, I turn scaling back on to avoid running into enemies that are too easy for my endgame build.
For the item randomizer, I randomized key items to important locations. Important locations include major boss drops, golden seeds, sacred tears, and merchant shops. So I don't need to comb the entire map and every dungeon to find progression items, but I do need to explore quite a bit. I also have the option to pay Kale for a mark on the map that points out a key item location for progression.
For the auto-equip mod, weapons I pick up will choose a random ash of war, a random infusion, and a random upgrade level between +0 and my current max upgrade level. But I got tired of that randomness at some point and instead edited the mod to force weapons I picked up to match my current max upgrade level. That was more fun. I also tried to use anything that auto-equipped to me, but not if it got in the way of my fun. For example, if I was fat rolling from a pickup, I took something off typically. Or if I picked up a staff, I usually switched back to a melee weapon.

If you're not familiar with Thymesia, it's an indie Souls-like that feels like Sekiro in a Bloodborne setting with the speed of Nioh. The combat admittedly feels jank at first, but similar to Sekiro, once it clicks, it feels so fluid. I highly recommend it if you want a short but fun combat experience. The levels themselves are serviceable, mostly linear sections, but almost all the bosses were a ton of fun to learn and take down.
One of its many unique pieces of its combat are plague weapons, abilities that let you pull out some other enemy's weapon for a short time at the cost of some energy. They add a ton of variety and build options despite not being able to customize your character. Well I just didn't use them, which is a huge disadvantage on many bosses because they do a lot of damage and stun bosses.
Additionally, not leveling up meant that I couldn't get any talent points to unlock skills. The game generally expects you to have a few basic skills to deal with some late game bosses, but I didn't have any of those options. I had to get creative on Urd for example when I ran out of feathers.
I also added in no healing because honestly, even with all those restrictions it wasn't crazy hard, but I also hate being a perfectionist, so I felt no healing was a perfect middle ground. It's pretty interesting, and sometimes hilarious, when I do get hit in these fights. Varg only hits me once, and it's with the ultimate. Urd I take a lot of damage throughout the fight, and hang on by a thread for the last half of the second phase. Honestly more interesting than just being perfect.
I also didn't include God of the Fools and Sound of the Abyss. The former is unfun, the latter is okay but not that interesting.

I had to edit the Item and Param randomizer randomiserprefernces.ini file to have everything set = 0 (there are some params = 1) except auto equip. Then after installing and setting up thefifthmatt's item and enemy randomizer, all the items were randomized according to the rules I set in thefifthmatt's mod, and auto-equip was working great.

Items are random. Enemies are random. Everything I pick up auto-equips. It's chaos.

I can't promise weekly uploads this time. I'm just way too busy, and don't want to wait on releasing these videos until later in the fall. To make up for that, I will make sure to have several community posts leading up to releases to make sure you don't miss parts when they do get uploaded. My current plan is to aim for biweekly uploads (once every two weeks).
As for the videos themselves, this is gonna be good. The run was crazy and editing it has been a ton of fun so far. I can't wait to show you what is coming up!I beat Elden Ring as a Level 1 Wretch, so I made a montageTims Games Done Hard2022-06-17 | I recently completely my level 1 run of Elden Ring. I had all the successful boss kills recorded and wanted to make a montage out of it, so here it is. You can find the unedited boss kill playlist here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFYcvs_VVuJYAlg2WB1rptw4-_ltehyEl
If you have ever watched Grandpa or any Elden Ring Level 1 speedrun, you'll know that this challenge isn't actually that hard if you have the right equipment. So I decided to intentionally avoid the meta builds, and ended up following LobosJr's builds for most things. The main rules of the run are below:
* No leveling * No summoning or use of spirit ashes * No bleed or frost * No consumable buffs * No ashes of war buffs
I would like to say the run was fun, but I was not having fun by the end. Malenia literally took 4 days of practicing and attempting. I was so ready to move on. Which I am currently, finally getting on to the Elden Ring randomizer. Gonna be a while before I can get that run completed and edited so don't expect it soon, but it's definitely the next thing I'm working on.

While I still think that spirit summons are too powerful and remove a lot of the difficulty of the fight with zero drawback (unlike player or NPC summons that increase boss health), I don't agree anymore that any bosses feel "unfair" when you're solo, they just demand way more from the player than previous Souls games did. If you want more discussion on this, there's actually a great video that's a direct response to the Joseph Anderson video that changed my mind about several "issues" I had with Elden Ring: youtu.be/EZ_9F73R1tE
Thank you for watching this far! Below is my tier list explanation for the FromSoft Souls games:
Elden Ring (A tier) (EDIT: S tier): This is one of the best adventure games I've played. Exploring is exciting, whether I'm finding new areas, new enemies, or getting got by the many traps and such. This is easily the best feature of this game, and almost matches that feeling of going on an adventure that DS1 had for me, even with fast travel always available.
A big issue I have with the game is the repeat bosses. Repeating bosses isn't always a bad thing, but it definitely dillutes how meaningful the first encounter with the boss is. The biggest disappointments in repeats were definitely Astel and Ancestral Spirit, really brought down the novelty of the first fight.
EDIT: I don't agree with the following anymore: And the biggest issue I have is the overall worse boss design. The design appears to be based around you using spirit summons a lot. But summons make you disengage from the battle, its way more boring, not my preferred playstyle. Malenia took me 4 hours to beat because I went without summons. One of my friends who used mimic only took a few attempts to beat her. Using summons makes the game too easy and less exciting, but going without them makes the game difficult in an unfun way.
Sekiro (S+ tier): Amazing and satisfying combat system that lets you dominate bosses once you master it. And the main bosses are probably my favorite in all of FromSoft's history, rivaling DS3's boss roster. The world is unique and fun to explore as well. Only downside would be some annoying repeated minibosses.
Bloodborne (S+ tier): Peak of the standard Souls combat system, the best FromSoft has done at streamlining the variety of weapons and upgrade system. The setting is my favorite out the series, the lore is the most interesting. This is the only FromSoft game I'll play casually whenever I feel like it. The bosses aren't all perfect but there are many amazing ones.
Dark Souls 1 (S tier): A masterpiece of a first half. No fast travel creates a feeling of dread no other FromSoft game has captured again. Feels like you're really on an adventure. The combat is slow and methodical but not clunky (assuming you don't lock on to enemies and fast roll). The second half of the game is a lot more tedious, not terrible all the time, sometimes really terrible (e.g. Tomb of the Giants, Izalith).
Dark Souls 3 (S tier): My favorite boss roster, only rivaled maybe by Sekiro. The bosses are very aggressive, but their movesets don't feel faster than the speed Dark Souls can handle. Almost every difficult boss feels extremely fair. The game is less fun to explore, as it is mostly linear, though the levels have great shortcut design.
Demon's Souls (A tier): Has the best atmosphere out of all the games. PS3 style visuals and audio are very nostalgic and engrossing for me. Most experimental of all the Souls games. Bosses and areas are hit or miss. The combat still feel smooth despite its age, though jank hitboxes are common. Infinite grass is kind of busted. The remake had some amazing visuals and quality of life changes, but the atmosphere I liked is gone, and they kind of ruined the music.
Dark Souls 2 (B tier): Still a great game despite it coming in at the bottom. Has some of the best QoL changes, was the first to do powerstancing that only Elden Ring has finally brought back, has the most satisfying jump and ladder climbing, and bonfire ascetics are genius. The areas are varied, the world is interesting to explore. The game takes a huge hit in the ranking because the combat is simply less fun. Stamina is way more limited, attacks have really long recovery windows, infinite lifegems make any encounter less scary, hitboxes last longer than they should to try and counteract ADP, all leading to something closer to turn-based combat.
