Sauraen In honor of the 15th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I present an all-new fully remastered, orchestrated version of the End Credits theme, played on modern cinema-quality sounds (not a MIDI).

While Koji Kondo's soundtrack is one of the most memorable in game history, the N64 had two hardware limitations that affected the complexity of the music he could compose for it: a limited number of voices, and limited ROM space in which to store instrument sounds. These limitations forced the great game composers of old to make up for the lack of fancy, perfectly-mastered sounds by composing catchy and often brilliant melodies. However, now we have the best of both worlds, and redoing a classic piece in modern sounds is both a fun musical exercise and a fitting tribute to the game and the whole Zelda series.

This arrangement was created in REAPER and rendered with EastWest / Quantum Leap sound libraries. It consists of nearly thirty different virtual instrument tracks, which take 11 GB of RAM to play in real time and represent access to over 100 GB of sample data. The process of creating this arrangement consisted of transcribing the notes, precisely synchronizing the tempo (in the slow sections, the tempo is continuously changing!), and then making the "artistic decisions" of what additional parts to add to fill out the arrangement. I began with a very literal transcription, and as the piece builds, gradually enhanced the arrangement until it was a whole orchestra by the final chords.

For those who are curious, the "dinga dinga" in the Saria's Song section is a santoor, and the "goron dog bark" is a cuica (friction drum).

BotW Link Physics Demo - Triforce% OoT ACE Showcase

I've always had a thing for endings; in fact, back in my vgmusic days, I had a habit of doing a transcription or arrangement of the ending theme of any game I beat. Getting to experience the ending is the reward a player gets for finishing a game, and it's an opportunity for the developers and composers to show off their best work to people who are already emotionally invested in the experience. But Undertale's true (pacifist) ending went way beyond this: it turned a nice game about love and friendship into an incredibly powerful emotional experience that deserves to be called one of the best games ever made. And Toby Fox did not disappoint in the musical department either: the pacifist ending is accompanied by a series of outstanding tracks, bound together by a masterful use of the game's main themes, which take the player along for the ride.

I intended this arrangement to be a tribute to the incredible positivity the game, especially the true pacifist ending, gave me and every player who had the privilege to experience it. I also wanted to honor Asriel, who is my favorite Undertale character and one of my favorite characters in all of gaming. Finally, I wanted to create a fitting conclusion--a big ending--for this album, which I am so grateful and honored to be part of. I spent somewhere around a hundred hours on the arrangement, which I began in February; and I'm quite happy with how it has turned out.

Because of the motivic nature of the Undertale soundtrack, it is difficult to name or decide on the root sources of many of the themes present in the game, let alone in an arrangement of its music. Nevertheless, this arrangement directly incorporates material from His Theme, Hopes and Dreams, SAVE the World, Last Goodbye, and Final Power; and it also references the B theme from Once Upon a Time at the end.

The title "For Good!" is a reference to three different things. First, it's a reference to the final line in the game, when Asriel appears to introduce the backer credits and says "Ready? Let's end this all for good!" Here, "for good" means "permanently", telling the player that after all the plot twists they've been through, this really is the end of the game. Second, it references the fact that this is the music for the pacifist or "good" ending. And finally, it signifies the positive effect the game has had on the world--the game as a whole was "for good", even if Toby Fox had no idea of the scale of the impact it would have. I hope many more games are made "for good", and I hope my work could someday have this kind of positive impact.

The arrangement was created with REAPER, EastWest sound libraries, and a variety of software synth plugins. Rugal played and recorded the lead and rhythm guitar parts, and improvised the guitar solo near the end. I created the arrangement, performed some of the synth parts (with editing of course), and did all virtual instrument performance programming, mixing, and other production. Special thanks to Fredrik Häthén for mixing feedback, and Doug Perry for giving me the chance to have this track on the album.

MIDIbox Quad Genesis - OPN2 Test Mode Readback VU Meters

Sorry for the crummy camera and sound quality--it's to demonstrate operation, not sound good.

Prototype module is powered by small Atmel MCU, not the powerful CORE_STM32F4 module which will be used in the actual synth. The purpose of building this prototype was to verify the design of the MBHP_Genesis board before actual PCBs are manufactured.

It's a rather loose interpretation, but it's the best the organ can do. I wish the drum patterns were fully programmable! Oh well, I guess 50+ voices of 4-operator FM synthesis was pretty good. :)

Nintendo: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64, 2000): End Credits (Part 1), composed by Koji Kondo.

SEQ64 is a cross-platform, GPL-licensed sequenced music modification tool for first-party N64 games (games that use the Audioseq format). These games include Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario Kart 64, and several others. It supports MIDI import/export (including "compression", loops, and all other commands supported by the Audioseq format) and custom redefinition of the file format and ROM information using the mature GUI interface. Available soon.

Currently, MIDI export is working quite well, as you can hear; there are only a couple of not-yet-supported commands. Instrument information is stored separately, and hence all the instruments are wrong in the output MIDI file; I corrected this simply by loading the correct instruments to each channel in MIDIbox FM V2.1.
