This might be my favorite book of 2024 (at least, so far)! I don’t like to be scared… but this survival story had me on the edge of my seat from page one until the very end! Plus, I’ve been interested in caves and ancient civilizations since I was a kid, so this book sucked me in real quick! If you like field trips, classrooms full of unique kids, mysteries, strange environments, bioluminescence, science, adventure, and, and, and… you are going to LOVE this book. The best way I think I can describe this book is like if the book Hatchet happened to an 8th grade class on Avatar’s Pandora while on a field trip with the Magic School bus’s Ms. Frizzle. If you like books that feature tough characters and tug on your heartstrings, you are going to LOVE this one. Make sure you stay through the whole video so you can discover the secret book quote hidden throughout… one word at a time, like a literary treasure hunt. Personally, I’d recommend this book for 8th grade and up. There are a few swear words and some high school aged situations that involve drinking and physical relationships. Nothing graphic, but if you aren’t in 8th grade yet, you might want to wait on this one. TEACHERS if you are showing this aloud in class and want to censor the swearing, I say the word “shit” at the 8:39 min mark and “hell” at 11:00.
