This version of the file is unlocked after beating the main difficulty with a score of over 50%. Good luck with it though, there are many parts that are much harder than they look.
The intro in particular flips the arrow locations, then covers up the target arrows and spins them around so you have to remember that it's flipped.
Lots of other subtle nasty tricks are employed to make your experience as out of body as possible.

I was tasked with making a chart to this file for a secret santa jam type thing, so I had a bit of fun with it.
The first thing I noticed about this song is that there's a constant tapping rhythm going on throughout the whole song, so I decided to map all of those to the up arrow, and chart the rest of the entire song around that.
Then, I found that it was cool that you could totally ignore the up arrow in some spots, and you'd still end up with valid patterns! So what I did, was I made the whole up arrow completely optional, so you don't get misses for ignoring it. There is a counter at the end, and you are still awarded score for hitting them as if they were normal notes (so you need all of them for 100%)
The background uses a rendertexture (AFT) to capture a bunch of objects then display it twice, with one instance being slightly larger and brighter than the other. Then, I draw a polygon ring that acts as a mask such that wherever the polygons are, the larger/brighter layer is visible. Timing the pulses of this to the song creates this simple but nice looking visual. Then various graphics fade in on the rendertexture's capture layer. That bg stuff was made in about 6 hrs I think.

So there's a lot to unpack here.
It's basically a remake of the pogo painter series of games, but in NotITG.
the tl;dr I of the game rules is:
"paint squares, get boxes to turn squares into points"
"you can paint more by making loops"
"pick up missiles and fire them at others to steal their tiles"
"pick up among us drip to move faster for 8 seconds"
A rogue AI named "brother pogo" (entirely fictional, no relation) keeps changing the game rules, somewhat inspired by "Will You Snail"
There are more rule changes in phase 3, but getting there is left as an exercise to the reader ;]
I'm overall really proud of how this came together. It's pretty polished, there's no e.g. missing sound effects, every character has unique animations for moving around, that kind of stuff.

This is a singles port of a *couples* chart (two players sharing a pad and playing doubles) I made for Couples Boot Camp 3, a tournament which ran on March 13th 2022.
This file uses a shader to check a source texture for specific colors in order to decide which of three "screens" to display - one screen has everything, a second screen has only the red notes (and a pink BG) and a third screen has only blue notes (and a blue BG).
Anything that isn't a 4th or an 8th will show up on all screens.
Also, Princess Mimi character file! Yay!
Here, we can see the side by side comparison between the Groove Coaster world scene. As model rips were not available, most of this geometry is hand written and made using pixel measurements.
The extra scene is cut from the full version, I added it because I thought itd be a lil spicy :)

Comments: The first DLC file for Mods Boot Camp 3 finally arrived!
This thing uses the groove coaster engine to create SDVX-style lasers!
It also uses the "green playfield is the real one" shell game from Get F***ed 2. I'm still almost sorry for introducing that to the meta.
The ending is actually a reference to Pump It Up missions, where you need to identify the real chart through the fake arrows through observation. Very tricky and befitting for a character like Reisen!
Reisen's sprite is from Touhou Hisoutensoku.

Yin Bao's giant form butterfly wings flap in 3D, and also the arrow strands coming from her wings are following a real cloth simulation!
In song 2, Yin Bao's reversible throne room has one pot so you can see which way is up :)

Character: Pandora
Comments: Pandora was the villain of Mods Boot Camp 2. Here, she's been possessed by Yin Bao and forced into fighting you, which she is none too happy about. She is very very strong, and will use Player 2's hold note to slice the screen in half.
This was the first Tier 4 made for NotITG. I learned a lot about how AFTs and polygons interact while making this file. Making screen shattering effect was surprisingly fun...

Character: Condor
Comments: Similar to Dyscontrolled Galaxy, this one is a shoutout to CondorTalon's Mods Boot Camp 2, with a few original parts and a few other shoutouts here and there.
This file was started the earliest out of any file in MBC3, started around June 2017. Eventually, it became a collab with Daikyi, where we kept passing it back and forth and making it worse every time. This was a LOT of fun.
Random trivia: The section in the middle that displays "loss" will always display (and need to be hit as) loss regardles of any chart-modifying mods used!
Trivia 2: This was the first time I ever used mod easing in StepMania! The motions are much smoother than my usual, and use more varied curves. Since 2018 this marks the era of "mods using ease curves" for me.
Trivia 3: The spear featured prominently in this file is named Hildr. Expert to find out more about her later!

Character: Ayaze
Comments: Since Ayaze was involved, it had to be a tasteful rhythm game reference.
Dressed as Yume this time, Ayaze brings a near 1:1 recreation of the Got More Raves bga from Groove Coaster. The only things that were changed were done for mods game design reasons. As model rips were not available, most of this geometry is hand written and made using pixel measurements.
I also added a cheeky lil section from the full version of the song, to keep people on their toes.
The section after the extension actually features accurate recreations of the charts to Got More Raves? as it appeared in other games, using the appropriate patterns for the appropriate moment in the song, synced!
And yes, the chart includes ad-libs, hit by tapping any direction at the correct time.

Comments: Now we're gettin to the Big Boy Leagues. Imhostep's file is a brutal proxy wall flicker reading challenge. The character first appeared as the final boss of Modster Mash 1 in Medley of the Bemani Ruins (youtube.com/watch?v=vi_tOXGIcQ0)

Character: Bumpie
Comments: Mysterious Aliens from a distant planet have come to show you how it feels to bounce the ball. The Bumpies ("Frumpie Bumpie Man") first appeared in the microgame of the same name from the 2015 simfile "Lootus" (youtube.com/watch?v=xyyuqB5anOY)

Comments: The first file to feature Alice, a character who appeared fully designed and formed in a dream of mine.

Comments: This file is a big love letter to the MLP series of mod events by WinDEU and AMintyDragon.
First using the TRIGGER HAPPY mods from CondorTalon's MBC2 KAC medley, before transitioning into WinDEU's Eureka mixed with Minty's BLACK by X-CrossFade, then back into KAC, then into WinDEU's Pinkie Pie loves sugar. It ends with Minty's Pinkie Party Cannon from Anger of Yuyu.

Comments: (This is by TOMOSUKE??? What the hell?? TIL)
This is a strange file featuring a flashback to Ama-tan's past working for a mysterious man. (It's Giger.)
The playfields are attached to a basic physics simulation while riding the conveyor belts, which I thought was fun.
It also uses 0% zoom z (flat depth) with extremely high percentages of "bumpy" mod combined with minor rotation in the y axis (like 1 degree) to create arrows that spawn in from the sides.

Comments: This is my favorite song in the pack I think. If you were to GPT-4 up a "modfile by Taro", the end result would probably be pretty close to this.

Character: Princess Mimi
Comments: This one's a pretty straightforward swingy file, except for the fact that Princess Mimi LOVES minigames, so there's a random batting show in the middle because of course there is.
Condor has taken up the batting post, and in the ending it's revealed that Pandora is the one behind the curtain, slowing things down for Condor.
I had a lot of fun animating the sprites for this one.

Character: Chan
Comments: Chan is probably my oldest original character, originating from when I was in 6th grade in the year 1999-2000. He's been through many iterations but the current iteration has him as somewhat of an everyman, and a bit of a generic RPG protagonist.
This stage is mostly themed around RPG references, first generic RPG maker games and then to Mother 2/3, then Final Fantasy 7 and then Pokémon.
The very intro is a reference to the jacket art of the original song from SDVX.
The opening to this stage was created in the free trial of RPG maker XP.

Comments: A funky collab between myself, halcyoniix and Daikyi!
Since this stage was a qualifier, it had to be played about 30 times, so I decided to spice it up by including a day and night cycle that takes roughly 12 minutes of play time spent on the same song to complete. Each time you start the song, the time of day will continue from where it left off.
Additionally, you can press the 1 and 2 keys to view the clock and manually manipulate the time of day, if you are playing on NotITG.
The mods themselves feature a few references to other Chroma song modfiles, as well as some subtle references to Ulluriaq's previous character modfile, Blue Star Parade.
Yes, the shadows on the mountain react to the position of the sun. Additionally, the pixel Ulluriaq was done by Draco System. There is an entire pixel version of the full day/night cycle, just so that's also seamless during the transition, haha.

Mostly done by me, some helper functions were stolen from halcyoniix and sorae.
The main gimmick of this file is that you're shown that note colors can correspond to the arrow direction in a bunch of safe environments, but then you have to start using the color information to read as the difficulty increases. It was a lot of fun to make! It's also a sort of sequel to Kanashibari no aiwo from MBC3.
Alice is a mysterious girl who goes to a severely underfunded school for learning magic. Her pet floating hand is named Erika.
The ruleset was absolute anarchy - minigames were allowed, and someone even submitted a WORKING game of sudoku recreated in stepmania, someone else submitted an IWBTG fangame implementation in stepmania, it was nuts.

The Thread of Fate Manipulator, also known as The Mods Machine, is a project me and j0e threw together over a new years eve weekend last year. We knew we wanted to do live mods as an gimmick, and the idea snowballed from there into the extra stage for UKSRTX.

This thing is my magnum opus. I spent the last two years working on it on and off (started in may 2017). It started as a conceptual "what if", if you had to actually Fight with Luculent (UKSRT8 Matoi), what would that fight be like? What kind of things would they try to do to you?
I learned how to do a lot of things on this stage.
The opening is a callback to matoi, but the text transition uses kuut's velloaamis ("wobbling") shader that was used in UKSRT9 and MM3.
The effect on the water is one of my first Vertex Shaders, I wrote some kinda-shitty code to detect if an arrow is below an imaginary "sea level" and distorte and fade the vertices of any arrow or hold portion that meets that criteria. The effect is surprisingly convincing, and I'm happy with how it turned out.
The next effect is another vertex shader, this time applied to the "red line receptor" as well as the playfields. There are other lines also scrolling that indicate when one play segment ends and another begins. This was the first effect written for this series of files in 2017, but it didn't have the vertex shader applied to it until mid 2019. The vertex shader allowed me to bend the receptor line and changeover lines in tandem with the playfields, using the same math functions. (it's a collection of sine waves, in a shader I wrote called "lifeform.vert")
The aesthetic idea behind 1:00 is a sort of lovecraftian thing, where the idea is that if you stare at a single playfield for too long, you go mad - the information becomes incorrect in a way that's difficult to describe, pretty subtle and way harder than it looks, as the arrows end up out of order very quickly. There is a hexagonal game of life simulation that's seeded when/wherever a new playfield spawns (location is randomized within bounds) It's based on THIS shadertoy.com/view/ltKcRD by Telperion.
1:28 is my first raymarcher, "visionquest.frag". I placed 8 sdf roundboxes in a ring, and used domain repetition to make it into an endless tunnel. UV is pretty much copied from the analys cubes. I made sure to manually fade the texture at the edges so no seams are visible. Here is the texture applied to the sdroundboxes imgur.com/a/OkXOfw5
The mural begins to scroll when the player starts ascending upwards out of it. The texture is actually a dead giveaway that the stage is a lie. It's only made up of characters that Peeesh knows, and there's like three Irmas in there...
After this we get a reference to the ending of the original Matoi, except now we have DPads with rainbow arrowpaths. This ends with a fairly tame jumpscare into a section I nicknamed "Hehu Wonk". Hehu Wonk is a reference to one of the mod-types in Daikyi's Anomaly file, specifically "Final Wonk", except it brings back the vertex shader from earlier in the file, using a vertical sine wave (synced to the music) this time. There's also some AFT feedback, and the canvas the feedback is drawing to has some small sine and cosine distortion applied to it, which creates those "eddy currents" that you can see in the trails.
The transition out of THAT, is probably my favorite hold note I've ever made. Luculent then claps, and we get ourselves a D-pad. This time, with a black hole in the middle, and Daikyi's twist.frag shader that he and FMS_Cat wrote for Perthed Again (celestial harbor). I really felt like this shader works super well with D-pads, haha. The transition out of this is also pretty spicy, the two holds become the receptor line for the next section.
The next part is called "Drop Distortion Universe", which is a riff on UKSRT7 Pernicious Deed's "Drop Distortion Beam". This was another mod made in early 2018. It uses 6 playfields, driven dropping diagonally from each other. The transition from one corner to the next is pretty brutal. The playfields crop in horizontally one arrow per beat, and crop out vertically one "arrow size" per beat as the red line clears them. It also includes the return of the eddy current feedback from hehu wonk. Then, they start to skew in reference to Disperagioia from Celestial Harbor.
It ends with a cute spotlight gimmick that's way harder than it looks, I turned on brake towards the end because I hate fun. It ends with a fake mine (another dispera reference) that turns into a real mine if you don't heed its warning. The fake Luculent breaks character at this moment, and the Peeesh smile appears. This is a fun round featuring a lot of animation. It's ostensibly a Deltarune reference, but there are a few details to differentiate it.
Goblin #1 is a reference to a DnD campaign I was a part of, where this epic goblin performs bizarre feats of absurd luck in rolls, and we ended up letting him stay in our party because it was epic.
Actually, most of UKSRTX's early stages are based on our same DnD quest!

Stage 1 - a charming custom rhythm heaven-like minigame where you must exterminate slimes with rhythm based game mechanics.
Small slimes require a single tap, while bigger slimes require a hold and release of 1.5 beats.
Also includes a tutorial, set to the rhythm heaven tutorial song "Let's Practice" by Masami Yone.

Stage 4a of UKSRTX, is the emotionally charged Camellia song from planet shaper, "Why Do You Hate Me". The story context of this stage is Peeesh shapeshifting into Ayaze and absorbing some of her memories, but not being able to handle it and having a breakdown.
The modfile was a collaboration between myself and PuuroKulho!
In my sections, I included a lot of references to rhythm games.
Puuro's sections are 1:23 to 2:05 and 2:46 to 3:40. His style is intense.

The gimmick of this jam was to make a modfile of difficulty less than 10 (on the NotITG mods difficulty scale). Here's a nice 8, it should be challenging but not too much!
The character's name is Vinespha, sister of Cuphea, and they have previously appeared very briefly in the background of MBC3's planeta journey.
