I didn't know that the dog, that dog would help make me decide to amputate my leg. The future does look bright for me and Lady."Travis was born with neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic condition that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue. These tumors are usually benign, but sometimes can become cancerous. After three femur fractures, he had to decide if an amputation was right for him. The Power of Hope: A Decade-long Friendship between a Cancer Patient and His Doctor Huntsman Cancer Institute 2023-03-10 | In 2011, Lowry Bushnell received life-changing news from his doctors. When Lowry first came to Huntsman Cancer Institute to meet with Jonathan Tward, MD, PhD, he felt hopeless. He’d been diagnosed with prostate cancer and told it would be fatal—that he had three years, maybe four.“I’d been told the cancer was in my pelvis, and there was no way to get at it all,” Lowry recalls. “Dr. Tward kind of chuckled and said, ‘Oh, you’d be amazed where we could go.’” Dr. Tward then told Lowry about a promising new treatment from a recent study, which Lowry agreed to try.“I had such confidence that I was in the hands of a really good doctor who is a really good person,” Lowry says. “And I had confidence that the treatment I was getting was the best treatment that can be offered. A Lifelong Connection between Ovarian Cancer Patient and Her Doctor: 10 Years Later Huntsman Cancer Institute 2022-03-28 | Ten years ago, Carine Clark received the crushing news of an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Recently Carine sat down with her oncologist, Theresa Werner, MD, to talk about how that diagnosis affected them both. One Familys Loss Creates Hope for Childrens Cancer Research Huntsman Cancer Institute 2022-03-25 | Cindy and Lou Campbell began The Ty Louis Campbell Foundation in honor of their son Ty who was diagnosed with a malignant rhabdoid tumor when he was only two years old. The passing of Ty in October 2012 led to a strengthened commitment by the Campbell family to financially support scientific discoveries that could lead to improved prognoses for kids like Ty. Their search led them to Samuel Cheshier, MD, PhD, a pediatric neurosurgeon and cancer researcher, at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
