I got a whole roll of fabric that looks like corn from a garage sale up the street from me for the low price of one dollar! It had upwards of 8 yards on the roll. So I made a dress for a social distanced Thanksgiving. I use a vintage pattern as a base but then I have to size it up for me. It has a twirly full skirt and an open neckline. Making a witchy cape coat! Queen De Luxe 2020-10-18 | This week I am making a cape-coat out of a vintage pattern. It's a "Distinctive Originator Patterns" from 1948. It's a fabulous pattern with all kinds of tricks up its sleeves. I picked up a wool blend at the fabric store and away we go. It's a more advanced pattern. I definitely had some trouble deciphering the instructions. But with determination, creativity, and experience, you can do anything. I will be ready for all the autumn chill, if it ever gets here to Southern California. I so dig this cape coat's witch-core, Halloween aesthetic. I hope it cools off soon, I'm tired of the 90 degree days!

My one year anniversary on YouTube! Sewing a vintage party dress. Queen De Luxe 2020-08-30 | It has been one whole year on YouTube. Wow, I can hardly believe it. I have learned so much about making videos. (And I'm sure I will continue to) And so much about myself! I have gained so many lovely subcribers. What a wonderful experience. At the beginning of this week, the pandemic and all the turmoil in the world was definitely getting me down. I was not in a good head space, but I got a reminder to celebrate the small victories. Well, I am planning to attend a ball in the coming year. I will be making a ball gown from the inside out. One must start with the underpinnings. To achieve the correct silhouette it's all about the underwear! So, I will start with the undermost layer, the Chemise or Camisole. This garment is close to the camisoles we have to day in shape. Of course, there is more lace and decor. The Victorians love their decor. But the basic function of the Chemise is to sit under the corset to collect sweat and protect the corset. I cut out the fabric witch is a vintage silk sari from my Mom's fabric stash. She was nice enough to give it to me. Then I sew up the bodice. We are getting close to finishing this lady up, so close. Next time I will hopefully finish. All I have left is the skirt, hems and trim details.
