The sound on the 2024 release doesn’t have the same distortion in the sibilants as the 2015 release either. I’m not sure if the expanded dynamic range and resolution shows in this comparison as compressed for streaming on YouTube, so I zoomed in at 2x in the second half.

VIDEO COMPARISON: Val Lewton’s The Ghost Ship (1943) 2021 US to 2023 UK Blu-ray - Missing Moth ChuckPenn3 2024-01-31 | The moth referenced in this scene appears to have been digitally removed as a possible flaw on the 2021 Warner Archive Blu-ray release of The Ghost Ship (1943). A corrected version with the moth rightfully restored was issued in 2023 in the UK, though the disc was authored in November 2021, just a few months after the August 2021 authoring date of the original flawed release.I purchased the US Blu-ray new from Amazon in June 2023 and received the original version. There doesn’t yet appear to be any recall or replacement program set up for purchasers of the US release despite it having been authored well over two years ago. I finally bought the UK release in January 2024 to make this comparison.This scene is located at 4:42-5:04 on both releases.

Opening Logo Comparison: The Exorcist (1973) ChuckPenn3 2023-12-18 | The Exorcist premiered in 1973, opening with the then-current Warner Bros company logo designed by Saul Bass. This carried through to the initial video releases in the early 1980s on VHS, Beta, LaserDisc, and CED VideoDisc. An early 1990s remastered video release replaced the original logo, only for it to reappear on the initial 1997 DVD release of the film. By the 25th anniversary video releases in fall 1998, the opening logo was gone again and the entire exorcism sequence color timing had been drastically overhauled. The 2000 “Version You’ve Never Seen” theatrical release (now referred to as the “Extended Director’s Cut) made further changes to the color timing of the exorcism as well as introducing numerous modifications to the sound mix and including previously deleted footage.All post-1998 editions of The Exorcist are missing the black-on-red company logo at the beginning and have a completely altered presentation of the exorcism. Even video and streaming releases claiming to be the “original theatrical version” - right up through the 2023 4K UHD Blu-ray release are missing the original company logo and have the revised exorcism scene, which I’ll compare in future videos.
