Projecting the film is no small task either, with massive 15,000 Watt explosive Arc Lamps are required to illuminate the 5.5 feet per second of film flying by (or 3.5 Mph) and here I can give a close look at the films including 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, 70mm 5/70 (5 perf 70mm) and 15/70 (15 perf 70mm) as well as what an Arc Lamp looks like and what it means. Knives Out Filming Location Today (2024) - Medical Examiner Kyle Mikolajczyk 2024-10-14 | I used to live near an important filming location of Rian Johnson's Knives Out (2019) in Marlborough MA, specifically where the "Medical Examiners" office was filmed. In the scene, the characters discover that this building containing important evidence in the Knives Out plot has burned down, and here we had 3 infamous actors/actresses all filmed on location (Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas). Greatest Film Printer of All Time | Ilford 2240RC Kyle Mikolajczyk 2023-12-09 | Why did Ben and I get a Film Photography Lab paper print processor (Ilford 2240RC)? How did we get it working? Or why did we turn his kitchen into a 35mm Film Photography darkroom? I honestly have no clue, but I invite you to experience all the pain and regret with me. We discovered an old Ilford black and white print film processor that was being given away, and decided to drive 3 states away to get it. I was nearly crushed bringing the 300 pound unit up stairs. The Ilford 2240RC claims that it can make 600 film prints per hour, and we intend to challenge that. How 35mm Film Works Kyle Mikolajczyk 2023-07-18 | Oppenheimer was filmed on 70mm IMAX, 70mm, and 35mm Film, which is basically just Jell-O with some sprinkles. Taking a simple photo with your own film camera also works the same. In this video I explain how film works with 70mm/35mm film in detail of how a simple piece of plastic, coated in gelatin and Silver Halide, allows us to create photos and videos, such as Oppenheimer like I discussed in my last video. I use Jell-O along with 35mm film, images, 35mm film frames from movies such as Space Jam, to help build a photo of how film works. I also fail miserably when making the Jell-O film concoction, but I still think I get the 35mm film across. I 3D Printed a 35mm Projector Kyle Mikolajczyk 2022-11-22 | Download the model by SimulatedPinecone/Thomas Piccione here: printables.com/model/300864-philips-norelco-dp70-film-projector ("1:8 scale model of the Philips Norelco DP7 35mm/70mm film projector"). He spent a long, long time designing this so please support him in any way you can!Printed using an Ender 3 Pro using "Army Beige" PolyLite PLA Pro. This projector is a 1:8 replica of the only 35mm / 70mm projector to win an Academy Award, the DP70 (AAII). Funny enough, that makes this roughly a 8mm scale for the film path. This 3D printed version is close to the real version it is modeled after, but I chose not to print the magazines as I believe the "naked" style without the nitrate-safe magazines look better. According to the 3D files designer, the Lamphouse model is designed off of the BigSky Industries lamphouse.Unfortunately, you cannot actually run 70mm, 35mm, or 8mm film through this projector. Compressed 35mm Film? Kyle Mikolajczyk 2022-03-18 | This is a quick video that was originally going to be part of the previous video, but I figured it was better to keep it separate! This video takes a look at 35mm film archival process/storage process of using Cores. Archival cores are used to store films in the most compact way possible, such as in film canisters. In order to store them or the reverse to use and project the film, we need to use the tool called the Split Reel. A Split Reel in a projection reel that can be split in half, allowing for film on cores to be interchanged. In this video I show you how to put film onto a split core and store it, but the process is the reverse when you are taking film off a core and onto a projection reel. This process works the best with a Film Rewind Bench but can be done manually if required.#35mm #FilmReel #Projection

70mm Film Breaks in Projector #70mm #FilmBreak #FilmProjector Kyle Mikolajczyk 2021-11-17 | Thomas and I were recording another (unreleased) video and wanted to run a preview reel with magnetic sound 70mm film. While we were running our Norelco DP70 (Todd AA II projector) in 70mm configuration (with our new Big Sky Industries Lamphouse) the film snapped! You can see what I believe is the only video on the internet of 70mm film snapping. The film immediately hit the film buckle switch and stopped the motor before we could. In the end only a few frames were lost in our already beat-up preview.The snap was caused by a combination of 2 bad splices within 6 frames of each other, and the lower loop was lost when the projector started. We are looking into why the lower loop shrank so much from start to running.

For years it has been on YouTube in it's 480p scan from the 16mm print to the VHS copy. I used topaz AI upscale to increase the resolution as much as possible without scanning the film again in 4K. The result is a much improved video that sounds and looks fantastic (and now in stereo!).
