I go to buy a brand new one and ask the maker how it's made and tunedI find out that the making and tuning process is very difficult and skilled work, but the tuner - Toussaint Clarke - manages to explain it in layman's terms.Toussaint explains how steel drums / steel pans are made and talks a little bit on how to tune a steel drum.He talks about how to sink the metal to make the steel pan, and stretching the surface area of the drum. The metal has been known to burst in this process.
