Getting Paiges Chevelle Ready For KOTOR - Part 1 of 3 OneMoreBolt 2024-07-27 | Cat's out of the bag, Paige is going to run the Chevelle at King Of The Open Road at Thunder Valley in Lexington Oklahoma. We have just a couple weeks to get the car up to snuff so that it will pass tech and she can make her first-ever pass on a drag strip. In the last video we talk about some of the issues with the car that needed to be addressed before this car could pass a tech inspection, now the work gets started. In short we really only have about 3 1/2 days between now and the event where we can really work on the car, so we are going to have to work together to make sure this car doesn't let her down come the big day. The 1964 Chevelle Isnt Happy But Still Sounds Great OneMoreBolt 2024-10-16 | Things don't always go smooth or workout as well as you'd expect. Prior to going out to Tulsa, to make a few test and tune passes so Paige could get a little more experience at the track, we made a few changes on the car to see about getting it to run out a bit better. That didn't exactly work out so well and the test passes were absolute garbage. The crazy part is the car starts up good, sounds really good, the vitals are all really good, but in reality, it's running terrible. I suspect it's got something to do with the changes we made. Anyway, in this video we talk a little bit about how the day went, what I think is going on with the car, and speculate about how to fix it. We're quickly running out of good weather for the year so I'm going to have to get my butt in gear if I'm going to be able to get Paige and her Chevelle back out to the track again this year for a bit more fun and learning before winter arrives.
Cars Coffee & Drag Racing at Tulsa Raceway Park - Not Our Day OneMoreBolt 2024-10-12 | On a bit of a whim we decided to take Paige's Chevelle out to an event at Tulsa Raceway Park, Cars Coffee and Drag Racing. The long story short, it was not a good day of racing for us or our buddy Juan. The night before making the trip we serviced the car and I decided the ole Edelbrock 1406 needed to go, pulled a Holley off the shelf that I have had for a while. It gave me a little fuss at first but with a few little tweaks, it seemed to be in good running order. I was looking forward to seeing the difference in performance on the track as typically Holleys out perform Edelbrocks. Well, I saw a difference in performance for sure, but not in the way I expected.Ultimately we had a good time and a bad day at the track is still better than a day at work in my book. Oh, and we considered not trailering the Chevelle, but decided that it was best that we did just because you never know what you might break and it's better to have the trailer and not need it than to not have it and need it. This proved true today, not only was the Chevelle in need of trailering home due to running extremely poor by the end of the day but our buddy Juan, yeah that blue Camaro on the trailer, he broke an axle, so we were able to help him out. It's all part of the hobby. We'll get the Chevelle sorted back out and get Paige back to the track again here real soon to hopefully lay down a few more good licks before we transition to the off-season where we have big plans for the Chevelle in preparation for a lot more fun next year. Servicing the Chevelle and Ditching Another Edelbrock Carb OneMoreBolt 2024-10-09 | Edelbrock carburetors have never impressed me yet for some reason or another most any hotrod I've ever bought that had an aftermarket car on it, well, it was an Edelbrock and Paige's 1964 Chevelle was no exception. From day 1 when we brought the car home I mentioned that the 1406 Edelbrock would be short lived on this car and the day has come, the 1406 is going away.We also take the time to do a service on the motor, what may be the first time the oil has been changed in a claimed "fresh rebuilt" motor from the previous owner. Ditching the old AVS2 for a Brawler and Getting the TV Cable Bracket Sorted Out OneMoreBolt 2024-09-28 | I've had enough of the AVS2 series Edelbrock carb, I can say I tried it, and don't care for it any more than the old 1406 model. Not saying they can't be good carbs, I'm just not a fan.So I went to my shelf and pulled out a 650cfm QFT Brawler carb that I have been sitting on for a little while now and tossed that on the 327. Lucky for me, this is not just a bolt-on-and-go thanks to the fact that this car has a 700r4. Turns out there really isn't a bolt-on-and-go TV cable bracket that works with a mechanical throttle linkage in a Chevy II engine bay. That's alright though because with a grinder and a welder you can make just about anything work how you want it to. Not All Electric Fans Are Created Equal OneMoreBolt 2024-09-14 | We all don't have the budget for the real fancy "Delta Fans", "DeWitts", or "SPAL" units, especially not us here at OneMoreBolt. That said, if you're going to electric fans, this is one area that you don't want to go too cheap on. Often, especially with this wagon project, I have gone the cheapest route possible because this really is a true "budget build" but when it came to the cooling system and the electric fans, the dirt-cheap Amazon fans are not something I'm willing to trust to get the job done. I found another option that is still "budget friendly" but should offer better performance. To try and get a visual representation of how much more air flow can be had well staying under $100 bucks, I called in the wife for one of the silliest things we have done on the channel. I guess all the wiring work the last few weeks is getting to my head, good thing we are closing in on the end of that part of the project.I have provided links below for both fans shown in this video. Rather than order a new one, I raided my used parts shelf and managed to scrounge up a handful of units but had no clue if they actually "worked".So to the kitchen stove I went. Threw them all into some hot water to find out if they worked. In this video I show you some of the differences in thermostat styles, show a little trick that can really help with getting air out of the cooling system, and share a little educating info on what a thermostat actually does (all too often I hear people saying things that are very wrong when it comes to thermostats and choosing the right one for your application). I Figured Out the Cheapest and Easiest Way To Low Mount My Alternator OneMoreBolt 2024-08-31 | Accessories are often an issue when sorting out where and how to position things in the engine bay and finding the right brackets to make it work can be a real challenge sometimes. Fortunately for me, this build is ultrabasic and the only accessory I need to mount is the alternator. That said, I hate the way alternators look and they need wires run to them which also can make an engine bay look messy if not carefully planned out. So the goal here is to tuck the alternator as far down in the engine bay as I reasonably can to hide it from plain sight and allow for wires to be hidden down low as well. New Wiring Harness For The 65 Nova Wagon OneMoreBolt 2024-08-24 | I've been putting it off long enough, finally getting started on wiring the wagon. The factory harness in this 1965 Nova Wagon was hacked to hell in the engine bay and pretty rough under the dash so rather than spend hours and hours cutting out the junk and patching up the stock harness I elected for a full car replacement harness. I know it was the right thing to do, but man it's an intimidating task to look at when all that wire is strung out all over the place. As you may assume, and like everything else on this car, I went cheap . . . and yes I know cheap often means more work but I have more time than disposable cash flow so that's the name of the game. That said, my initial impression of this Amazon special harness is that it's a lot better than I expected. YouTube Has Spoken - No LS In The Chevelle OneMoreBolt 2024-08-21 | YouTube, we heard you and have decided you are right. Paige's Chevelle is going to stay a small block chevy at least for the foreseeable future. LS swaps offer lots of great benefits and if planned out right the cost car be very reasonable. That said you have helped keep my roots solid in the world of small block chevy's and I thank you for that. Time to start building the parts list and getting the budget together for this car to go to the next level. Big ticket items, a rear end with a decent gear, OD transmission (most likely 700r4 built to our needs), and a bump stick that actually has some lift.In the meantime while we get the plans, pennies, and parts in place for the Chevelle, it's time to get back to work on the Nova wagon, you know all that fun stuff, wiring, plumbing, and the endless list of little things that have to get wrapped up anytime you blow a car apart that far.Thanks for watching and all the great support.

Knocking Down the Miles To Get The Coveted KOTOR Coin OneMoreBolt 2024-08-07 | Last last couple of weeks have been pretty busy and long getting this car ready for King Of The Open Road 2024 but we did it and made it to the event, getting the last couple of things buttoned up the night before day 1. To be honest, neither Paige nor I were sure if the car would make the 300+ mile round trip drive on day 1 as we hadn't done much driving of this car since buying it 4 weeks ago. The day started with a curve ball as we had to drive in rain on the way to Thunder Valley Raceway, the official starting point of the event. We hadn't prepared for rain, didn't have any of the windshield wiper system installed at all. We made it without issue though and the rain let up before we set out on the official cruise with absolutely beautiful cruising weather. To be honest, neither Paige nor I were sure if the car would make the 300+ mile round trip drive on day 1 as we hadn't done much driving of this car since buying it 4 weeks ago. The day started with a curve ball as we had to drive in rain on the way to Thunder Valley Raceway, the official starting point of the event. We hadn't prepared for rain, didn't have any of the windshield wiper system installed at all. We made it without issue though and the rain let up before we set out on the official cruise with absolutely beautiful cruising weather. Happy To Be Done With These C2C Inner Fenders OneMoreBolt 2024-07-17 | The adventure that has been less than enjoyable with inner fenders finally draws to an end. These Classic to Current Fabrications inner fenders have been just as much of an annoyance as the CPP inner fenders I did earlier this year. To be fair these were the cheapest inner fenders I could find so I'm not overly shocked that they didn't fit worth a crap. That just seems to be the way of things these days with cheap and expensive parts alike, stuff just isn't made with the kind of quality control it once was and the end user is just stuck having to work with what ever they get. Fortunately for me I'm stubborn enough to stick with it and figure out how to make things work and that's exactly what I did with these. Due to my lack of skill when it comes to welding, the work definitely could have been better but in the end it was good practice and the final product isn't total garbage. The only way to get better at doing anything is to put the time in and do it, practice practice practice. No doubt when/if the day comes that I have to make another set of crappy inner fenders work on one of these cars they will certainly come out better than these. All that said, we are moving forward with this project. Next up will be wiring and plumbing, also things that aren't exactly fun and can be frustrating but hey, it's all part of the process and can't be nearly as annoying as doing the inner fenders. Only Way To Make The C2C Inner Fenders Work - Cut Splice Weld OneMoreBolt 2024-07-10 | As promised the videos on these C2C inner fenders are much shorter than the CPP inner fenders I did earlier this year as it's much of the same process, just a different part. I didn't bother to record much of the labor this time mostly because it was a frustrating day for me. I hate not being good at things and well, I'm not good at tig welding. Only way to get good is to practice, well, this was practice. I don't totally hate the end product but I'm also not exactly happy with it either. Testing Out the Harbor Freight Surface Conditioning Tool OneMoreBolt 2024-07-06 | The heat in the shop has been a real butt kicker the last few weekends but we are pushing on. The floor is finally stripped back and cleaned up enough to start working on the few little fixes that are needed before we get back to working on making this car run and drive again. But cleaning the floor pan is boring video.So, this week I busted out a couple new budget tools that I got to help with various parts of the project, like getting all the stickers off the car. Let's just say I wasn't disappointed by how well the Bauer Surface Conditioning Tool worked and quickly I might add. It definitely leaves behind a surface that will need a good bit more work before it's ready for paint but I expected that. Cheapest Chevy Nova Inner Fenders On The Internet OneMoreBolt 2024-07-03 | If you haven't followed along with this project here's a brief summary:This is my 1965 Chevy II Nova Wagon that I did a Heidts Mustang II front end swap on (this front end is new to this car, but definitely not new, picked it up second hand from another guy that was "upgrading" to a fancier drag race type setup). The front end swap itself was a breeze, the wife and I actually got the whole front clip swapped in a day (video below). Since then every little thing along the way has been a bit of challenge . . to be fair mostly because I'm a cheap a$$ and choose to do it the cheap/hard way. That said, my labor is free for me and I'm trying to build this car as reasonably cheap as I can while not making it a total butcher job. Now the inner fenders, this is the second set of inner fenders I am giving a go. the first set I got was made by CPP, and they were a total nightmare but in the end the finished product wasn't all that bad. But they also got cut / clearanced for fenderwell headers (whole different story) and since been reallocated to the '63 Gasser build since that's where the fenderwell headers have been moved too. This left me needing inner fenders for the wagon once again. You'd think I would have learned my lesson about going to cheap route with the CPP inner fenders and just paid the piper for the Heidts kit . . . yeah, that didn't happen! Instead I found an even cheaper set made by Classic 2 Current Fabrication. Now I don't expect that they will be perfect but they have to be better than the CPP fenders . . . Right??? Wifey Putting Me On The Spot For Forgetting Again About The Gas Pedal OneMoreBolt 2024-06-28 | For what will hopefully be the last time for a long time, the motor has to come out of the 1965 Nova Wagon. The short of it, this motor has an oil leak at the back which I suspect to be either the rear main or if I'm lucky the pan seal. So before we start locking things down the motor comes out one last time to see if I can fix the oil leak. The downside to the Mustang II style front end is that you can't pull the pan with the motor in the car and in these cars it would be really hard to just lift the motor up and slip the pan out from underneath. Maybe doable if you really try, but let's be honest, since nothing was locked down yet on this car it was far easier to just yank the motor and trans out to reseal the bottom end, so that's exactly what I did. While at it, a few more of the essentials get bolted up as we install the motor back in the car to stay so that we can really start putting this car together with hopes of being able to drive it soon . . . Fixing Old Mistakes So the Wagon Can Go Together To Stay Together OneMoreBolt 2024-06-26 | For what will hopefully be the last time for a long time, the motor has to come out of the 1965 Nova Wagon. The short of it, this motor has an oil leak at the back which I suspect to be either the rear main or if I'm lucky the pan seal. So before we start locking things down the motor comes out one last time to see if I can fix the oil leak. The downside to the Mustang II style front end is that you can't pull the pan with the motor in the car and in these cars it would be really hard to just lift the motor up and slip the pan out from underneath. Maybe doable if you really try, but let's be honest, since nothing was locked down yet on this car it was far easier to just yank the motor and trans out to reseal the bottom end, so that's exactly what I did. While at it, a few more of the essentials get bolted up as we install the motor back in the car to stay so that we can really start putting this car together with hopes of being able to drive it soon . . . Dont Patch Your Floor Like This Not Okay OneMoreBolt 2024-06-25 | With the days ticking away and No Name Nationals slowly creeping up from the distance I figured it would be a good idea to see about getting steering in the car, you know, one of the last major hurdles needed to be sorted out before proper reassembly and detail work can begin. Gotta sort out the issues and all right. So, as I normally do, I looked at a ton of parts online to figure out what the good options were, what was in my budget, and how to make it all work the way I wanted it to. After plenty of rummaging about the interwebs I got my parts list sorted and ordered, parts in hand I was ready to start getting this fitted up and figure out what new issues I might have. This is the first time I've done any work in the cabin of the car since I have owned it, and quickly realized it could you a little cleanup before I get started on the new parts . . . let's just say that "a little cleanup" quickly turned into an archeological dig inside the car. Once I got the parts out that were being stored in the car, the amount of trash and dirt I found under the nasty carpet was . . . well, let's just say it's a good thing I decided to look under the carpet now, because we now have more work on the list that I wasn't expecting. But hey, that's all part of the fun. We are still making the push for No Name Nationals, and I'm fairly confident for now that we should be able to have this car ready to rip in Sikeston come September, we just can't sleep on some of these issues. Going to be a long summer to get this thing ironed out.
