The January 6 Capitol Riot as it Happened (UPDATED)

NightDocs 2024-10-10 | This is an updated version of the documentary "The Capitol Riot as it Happened" released January 10th 2021, only a few days after the insurrection itself. It was the first documentary of its kind in the world, going on to be featured in film publications as well as being entered into evidence and shown on the house floor during the second impeachment of Donald Trump.

This is not meant to be a comprehensive accounting of the day. This started as a personal project while I watched the insurrection unfold. I began to download every clip I could find geolocated around DC across Twitter, Tik Tok, YouTube, Parler, etc in an effort to piece together the events for myself so I could better understand the events leading up to what I was witnessing. What resulted was a perspective I had never anticipated to be as powerful as it was. Many clips seen in this presentation are no longer available anywhere else, as social media companies heavily censored many of the posts people were making, taking them down for any ToS violation they could think of.

How I Became Space Jesus (w/ @okisweirdstories)

NightDocs 2022-01-12 | Recently, my good friend @okisweirdstories released a 30 minute documentary we collaborated on called "How I Infiltrated a Bizarre Conspiracy Cult" about how we flew to Las Vegas to investigate the "Secret Space Program" or SSP - a strange movement full of people convinced that they are genetically enhanced super soldiers fighting aliens and insectoids on Mars for hundreds of years at a time and then de-aged back through time. What's even stranger is how many people BELIEVE them.

Happy Halloween! Today we're going to take a look back on the earliest recorded history of ghosts from ancient Mesopotamia. Kingdoms like Sumeria, Asyria, and Babylon contain some of the earliest writings about paranormal entities like ghosts, phantoms, demons, exorcists, witches, and sorcerers.

I drew heavily on Dr Irving Finkel who is one of the world's leading authorities on ancient Mesopotamia, and one of the few who can read the ancient cuneiform tablets.

Humans with TAILS?! #shorts

Believe it or not, humans are sometimes born with tails. It’s extremely rare, but it’s very much a real thing.

These vestigial tails are leftover dormant characteristics left behind as we as a species evolved into human beings. Evidence of this is seen in the coccyx more commonly known as tailbones.

You also have vestigial structures on your ear. This is called a Darwin tubercle, left over from our pointy eared primate ancestors. Can you wiggle your ears? That’s left over as well!

Vestigial traits are seen all over the animal kingdom. When animals evolved and came on land, some evolved to go back into the ocean. One such species that is the descendent of this is the Baleen whale which when you look at it’s skeletal structure, has undeveloped hind legs. Sperm whales have this as well as a pelvis.

The Secret Russian Spy Ring Hiding on Google Images

NightDocs 2021-05-01 | In June of 2010, the FBI arrested 11 Russian nationals for working as unregistered foreign agents in a ground breaking cold war style spy roundup called Operation Ghost Stories. This CIA and FBI task force spent close to a decade on this operation, watching these Russian spies, including the now famous Anna Chapman who had gotten into the most elite parts of society.

One of the overlooked aspect of this case was a novel new type of spycraft called steganography, which allowed them to hide secret messages inside publicly available images even viewable through a search of Google Images.

Today on MidnightDocs, let's take a second look at this case and the technology uncovered and what it means for the world of spies and spying in the modern world.

The Capitol Riot: As it Happened

NightDocs 2021-01-10 | This is a minute-by-minute accounting of the events leading up to and on January 6, 2021 when Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to stop the counting of the electoral votes cast by the states to certify Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.

This video is not intended to be political commentary, rather it is meant to lay out a factual accounting of the important events of the day.

Like everyone, I have my own personal political bias, but every attempt was made whether you believe I was successful or not to not editorialize the events with commentary or with the editing of this video.

My purpose in making this is so that anyone wanting an accounting of the events of the day can see them in one place in chronological order. There are bound to be errors in chronology and editing, and some time stamps may or may not be accurate, but I gave it my best shot. Timestamps were taken from Twitter posts and from known times. For the purposes of this video, I would look at timestamps and chronology as relative, rather than exact.

Why Charlie Chaplins Great Dictator Speech is Still Relevant Today

NightDocs 2020-12-12 | In 1940, Charlie Chaplin, known for doing only silent films, did a film called "The Great Dictator", introducing spoken dialogue. At the end of the film, the once silent Charlie Chaplin gave a speech so timeless and incredible, it deserves to be heard again with the eyes and ears of the world as it stands today.

Investigating Cannibalism in Restaurants [Part 1]

NightDocs 2020-11-22 | In 2014, news media around the world began reporting about a hotel in Onitsha, Anambra State in Nigeria, saying police had shut the hotel down after it was discovered that the restaurant was serving human flesh.

This video began production in June of 2020 as what I thought would be a fun little short video debunking claims about the ludicrous notion that cannibalism restaurants actually existed. What I stumbled upon turned this into a fun short video with a short turnaround to improve my upload frequency into the single craziest story I think I've ever uncovered.

What you'll find in this film you're watching today is a story about how rumors or a cannibalism restaurant were potentially used as cover for government corruption leading all the way to the highest office in the Nigerian government. It's a story of hostile business rivalries where a potentially corrupt politician who ran as Vice President of Nigeria in 2019 used his significant influence to sabotage and destroy a business rival. A politician who was the former governor of the state, accused of embezzling millions of government funds into his family's private business, was impeached, and used his influence to reinstate him in his government position while the people of Nigeria adore him, completely clueless to the character of the man he really might be.

YouTube is Broken: Heres how to Fix it #AnswerUsYouTube

NightDocs 2020-09-13 | This last week, Charlie, otherwise known as Cr1tiKal or Penguinz0 had a video removed by YouTube and given a channel strike on fairly dubious grounds. In an effort to seek answers, he advocated for a hashtag #AnswerUsYouTube.

After Markiplier responded to a tweet about it and had his own video removed and given a channel strike, the hashtag became one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter, YouTube's preferred platform to communicate with creators, apparently. YouTube acknowledged the error finally, but instead of continuing to push for changes to the platform and more transparency, the energy and momentum behind #AnswerUsYouTube died out.

We have a rare opportunity while it's still fresh in everyone's minds to advocate for real change. This is not a time to be cynical, but to be forward thinking and optimistic that change can and should happen to improve the YouTube platform, empower creators, and improve the viewing experience for the viewers.

Visit Eroda: The Fyre Festival of the ARG World [w/ Nexpo, Barely Sociable, Loey Lane, Nefarious TV]

NightDocs 2019-12-27 | The Visit Eroda ad campaign was one of the biggest events in the ARG community of 2019. Thousands of dollars were spent on ads by a mysterious company, advertising travel to an island that didn’t exist. The ARG community thought this could be the biggest event yet for this unique story-telling and gaming narrative form. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out to be quite as expected when it turned out to be a viral marketing promotion for Harry Styles’ new album Fine Line and the music video for Adore You.

Find out how Columbia Records managed to (probably) unintentionally fool thousands of ARG players across the world into thinking they had stumbled across what could be the greatest ARG experience of all time, and what happens when two completely different fan groups who never intersect clash together in an online Discord war for the ages.

David Parker Ray: The Toy Box Killer (Full Documentary)

NightDocs 2019-12-10 | David Parker Ray, known as the Toy Box Killer is one of the worst murderers to ever walk this earth. This video takes a walk through this horrifying case to uncover the dark secrets he kept hidden from the world for decades. He's one of the few serial killers that was never convicted of murder. Although he himself videotaped his own crimes including murder, they could never find a body or identify a victim to definitively tie him to a specific murder victim.

This case was so horrifying to investigators, they were known to leave his $100,000 custom-built "Toy Box" vomiting on the ground outside, and one investigator took her own life after spending 5 days inside creating police sketches of the contents within.

A note about the introduction: Although the story told about Cynthia Virgil's escape is non-fiction, some creative liberties were taken. Cynthia escaped during the day time, about 3:15pm, to be exact. Ray did not live in a secluded area, but a moderately populated neighborhood of trailers and small homes. She was seen by a few people and tried to stop a few passing cars, who seeing a hysterical naked, and bloodied woman trying to get into their vehicle, locked the doors and drove off in fear. When she burst into another double-wide on Hot Springs Landing Rd, it was a woman named Darlene Breech who was sitting inside watching television. As far as Cynthia falling unconscious, I've found several conflicting reports on that, and as it made for dramatic storytelling, I decided to leave it in.
