Wise Whiskers The Old Hare Of The North- Original poem and art work
updated
I'm returning with a remake of a song I wrote six years ago . Maybe i decided to search this one again, as i'm binge watching Game Of Thrones, whilst the football season is on TV here in the UK!! Although not associated with Norse mythology, the show reminded me of this one..
Yggdrasil is the immense and central sacred tree in Norse cosmology, depicted as an ash tree, that sustains the nine worlds. It is a key element in Norse mythology, acting as a cosmic axis connecting the heavens, earth, and underworld. Yggdrasil is not just a tree; it's a symbol of the universe itself, with its branches reaching into the heavens and its roots extending into the depths.
Til the next time my friends... x
As i sit in my '' RANDOM'' little ol' country called England in Europe,( JD Vance, practice what you preach and show respect!!).. I feel now is the time to share again.!
As my lyrics state,'' you all got what you wanted' Good luck with that one USA!!
Peace and love to all.......
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power''
Abraham Lincoln
'The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.'
Albert Einstein
The devil sipped sweet red wine, he shared it with an angel and said boy you'll be fine
But the river's flowed, blood and poison rain
You drink with the devil and this world is in pain
You drink with the devil, you'll be thirsty as hell
Drink with the devil you'll burn
Drink with the devil you'll be thirsty as he;;
And the world will be dying, where an angel fell
The forests burned and the oceans dried
The devil kept on drinking, the angel cried
Temptation comes to those who wait
You've all got what you wanted now, it's all too late
Drink with the devil......
Original song. Ali Hammond 2018
Yet another fleeting visit! I do hope you are all well.:)
In these shocking and horrific times we are now living in, I feel this song says it all .
Until the next time, be well, be happy
Love, light and peace
On tracing my ancestry years ago, and finding that I was predominantly Norwegian Viking, it inspired my imagination so much , and led me to write this sad tale of an ill fated love affair between a Nordic Viking beauty and her Anglo Saxon lover .
I initially uploaded a simple version with me and the trusty guitar, but it was Perplexia X who asked if he could add his magic to the song and created this stunning video
. Sadly, i don't think he is on Youtube any longer, but i will always be grateful for his kindness in the production of this.
Thank you as always for watching and listening:)
LYRICS
The wolf called to me with a pure crystal sound
As I saw your spirit leave me behind
My hand dragged the earth, where death was now found
And love spilt in battles blood, lies in ashes on the ground
And the call of my kindred ,beckons as they sing,
As I venture on the voyage, back with the kings
The raven looked on with blackened, telling eyes
The wind howled your name, and I heard your sighs
And I prayed that my breath would give life anew
As the hollow of the hornpipe took my heart from you
And the call of my kindred beckons as they sing,
As i venture on the voyage back with the kings.
The moon cast her shadow , on the ripples of the sea
And I saw the face that had once smiled at me
And I take your heart with me with our sacred ring
To wear and to cherish. In the land of my kings
Ali Hammond Original 2015
One I recorded a while back.
Hope you are all doing well.
Happy St Patrick's Day!
It has been covered by so many folk artists, and there are many versions, but I chose Donovan's as he is one of my favourite folk artists
The sad tale of a young medieval noble maiden who is married off to rich man's son by her father . She being 24, the boy just 14 .
. As she watches him grow slowly into a man, she falls in love with him, but alas! He dies at 17 after fathering a son
I hope you enjoy my take on this one, and to all those out there who will be celebrating Burns night tomorrow, as I will, I shall raise a wee dram to you all
The first song i have recorded for almost a year, after breaking my arm badly, so i'm a little rusty to say the least. But thank you Mr Horne for giving me the buzz i needed to pick up the guitar again and sing!!

My original art ''Contemplation'
I thank you for your visit and listen today and wish you light and blessings for the new year ahead.
lyrics and details about the song at the bottom of page but before that, I would like to share with those who read this that the powers that be here on YouTube are very wrongly preventing me for weeks, from viewing any videos, including my own channel!. Their only message stating that I have something called an '' Ad Blocker which i must remove or pay a premium for any time spent on here. I have no such thing and have reported this on numerous occasions. I have been blocked for several weeks again, and only now am able to visit and see some fellow YouTubers work...So, if this is now a continual issue for me, i may have to call it a day on YouTube, as I would not consider paying for something here that i seldom visit anyway anymore.
.Still, very disconcerting when i have been producing videos for nearly 10 years. This site obviously has no respect for people!..Now to move on..:)
A song I wrote many years ago, which is simply a personification of snow, which i think , young or old, we all find magical at this time of year.A magical tale of the snow queen and the joy she brings with nature for Yule.
I wish each and every one of you a blessed December, whether you celebrate or not at this time of year.I wish you all health and happiness
Best wishes!!
Lyrics
Winter lady, work your magic, and make a December dream come true
Dance with the aurora, and glisten down
On every sleepy meadow, roof top and town
And leave a special snowflake kiss, within your diamond blanket of bliss,
For every waking child's December dream
Then flurry far away, on your icicle sleigh
And rest a while on this Yuletide day
Crystal lady, no one hears a sound,
As you tiptoe your spell upon the barren ground
Pure white lady, please stay a while, to see children's glowing wide eyed smiles
That you brought, with your December dream
Chorus

This is a very raw take on one of The Pogues songs that I fell in love with when I heard it on the soundtrack of the movie 'PS I love You..But, I just wanted to sing it today:) My first recording for well over a year i believe, and forgive the ropey guitar, but i still struggle with the arm i broke and also it needs new strings!!
I certainly hope there will be many a bell ringing, and Guinness pouring, and much loud singing to Fairy Tale Of New York' this Christmas eve by many , in memory of Shane..A very sad loss.
I recently watched one of my all time favourite movies for the 'umpteenth' time' Once starring Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova . Glen Hansard's soundtrack is beautiful ..So, today I share my humble cover of one of the songs from the film. I hope you enjoy
Thank you for visiting and listening
My laid back version of this Jethro Tull classic.
Sorry i'm not interacting on here at present, but hope you're all keeping happy and well and i thank everyone for recent lovely messages.I hope to be in touch again and listen to all your great music in the months ahead..
In the meantime...Enjoy the witching hour!.
Happy Halloween, or as I celebrate, the Celtic pagan celebration of Samhain
So, I leave you with one of my pagan songs of nature's beauty and I dedicate this in memory and sadness to the stunning, historic sycamore tree in Northumberland, seen in the film Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves , and visited as a place of beauty and spiritual enlightenment by so many , mindlessly hacked down by sick vandals this week. A tree that had stood for over 300 years...
I wish you all a very healthy, happy and peaceful Autumn time and end to 2023.Blessings to you all and i will say thank you in advance for any kind listens and comments, and hope you won't mind that i do not reply on this occasion.
.
Lyrics
The wise woman taught me, the song of the trees
The one that she sings when the harvest is golden.
The wise woman taught me the lullaby of the leaves
The one that she hears as they slumber in autumn
Hum the tune of the morning dew
The gentle whistle on the mist
Swallows fly home on the chorus of the wind
As the trees chant their goodbyes
The wise woman taught me the harmony of the rain
The symphony that caresses the leaves as they fall
The wise woman taught me the song of the trees
The one she sings to an October breeze
Hum the tune of the morning dew
The gentle whistle on the mist
Swallows fly home on the chorus of the wind
As the trees chant their goodbyes
Ali Hammond original
I can't possibly imagine what It must be like for a loved one to go out in the morning, and never return because of a fatal accident, but it happens every day to too many people.
And so, this a song relating to such a tragedy.. The lyrics centred around the partner left and coming to terms with the fact she will never see the man she loved again, who was taken in an instant ,and her remembering the person he was... The environmental activist, passionate about saving the planet..who would have frowned upon so many cards of sympathy being sent to her because of trees being cut down....Hence the lyrics Go save the trees.
Anyway. Sometimes a sad song makes you think how precious life is and to never take those we hold so close for granted..We just never know what a day may bring...
LYRICS
Daytime TV, more cards through the door
I can you yell, ''Save the trees!''
Answer phone flashing, more snow on the ground.
you told me it was the worst you'd seen in years
And so i'll feed the birds, with the seed you left on the shelf
And i'll water the plant you bought last week
Then i'll lie in the blanket, that still smells of you
Pray that this world will leave me be
Caus I don't want any more, I don't need any more
Tea and sympathy
Folded corner in the page of your book
Wonder what happens at the end
Alarm clock set for your 6 am calls
The morning was always your best friend
And now i'll take my chance, that sleep may come my way
And i'll see your smile in my dreams
And you'll whisper to me, 'Keep fighting the good fight, go and save the trees ''
And i'll lie in the blanket, that still smells of you
And pray this world might leave me be
I don't want any more, I don't need any more..
Tea and sympathy
Ali Hammond original
Hope everyone is doing well
Didn't see that coming, Miss Plain Jane,
When your dance card was empty, passion swayed your way
Like a lamb to the slaughter, a moth to the flame,
playing with the innocent, the party man's game
The song that we danced to, when I was your fool
Is lying with forgotten tunes in the radio's blood pool
This girl dances now well all alone
She moves to the rhythm of the wise on her own
Shut down the music. turn off the lights
This little wallflower's not dancing tonight
Shut down the music and turn off the lights
This little wallflower she's not dancing tonight
A rose for the pretty and a weed for the blind
All the knowing flowers saw the laughter in your eyes
The stupid get what they deserve and hold on to it tight
But when the rose is bruised and crushed, there'll be no dancing tonight.......
Ali Hammond -Original 2019
As I sit today and hear the harvesting in the fields, it reminded me of this sweet song.
Sorry that i'm unable to visit here very much these days, but hope you are all keeping well and happy.
As our summer here in the UK grows old, I wish everyone, wherever you are a fruitful step into the new season ahead..

Released on her 1997 album The Lion and the Cobra, O’Connor’s single “This is a Rebel Song” is a ballad with distinct political overtones. It can be interpreted as a pained love song from an Irish woman to her English lover – or as plaintive cry by Ireland, pleading for recognition and appreciation by England.
Hope you enjoy my take :)
My version of this sad familiar song that she performed so beautifully.
May she find peace in death that she never found in life.
Blessings to her.
The Dandy Steam Punk Fox
With a tilt of this top hat, and wide smile on his face
He will charm and beguile every one in his place
With long flowing locks, and dashing sly nod
He's a sight to behold
The Dandy Steam punk young Tod.
He cares not for chicken, nor prowling the night
Preferring dining on salmon
In rich candlelight
He never wears socks. Too common! Get wet!
He pirouettes in the park in the softest velvets
With a flick of his brush, he shakes off weeds and dried nettles
Preferring to slumber on the finest rose petals
And as for fair vixens, his conquests are many
Waltzing in the moonlight, with the prettiest of plenty!
A cad, a chancer, a gentleman thief,
Preferring a night at the opera than roaming the streets
His reputation precedes him, he thinks out of the box
You can never resist
The Dandy Steam Punk Young Fox

My Irish Granddad used to sit me on his lap when I was a child and sing it to me. It always brings a tear to my eyes .
Her'es my humble take.
Blessings to you all and thanks for listening :)
I return today to a song I wrote for all those who struggle with their mental health..
Thank you,as always for taking the time to listen:)
Also, thank you to those who kindly covered this song over the years:)
LYRICS
Tick, tock the clock, as it judges my sighs
So tired of living, but am I too scared to die
Done with the giving and of swallowing lies
No point in trying, when they don't even cry
Life's just a moment in time
Life's just a moment in time
Shake off the coil, let me be free
Where something less mortal, is waiting for me
I'll scream in my darkness, and blind in the light
Drown in my weakness
As i lose the fight
Life's just a moment in time
Life's just a moment in time
Phantoms will taunt me, and take me away
As I fall from my night's cliff
In dreams I will stray
And i won't know the sorrow, of the days left behind
And they won't understand me, as they lose their minds
Life's just a moment in time
Life's ..just a moment in time
Many thanks for your listen:)
Lyrics
When your mind's breaking with the dawn
And you know you're just another waiting to be pawned
And you don't want to scratch around with the rats today
You want to dance with the moon and play it your own tune...
But, when all's said and done
I'm not looking for a wailing wall to weep by
I'm not looking for signs from the sky
I'm not looking for your holy man to guide me
I'm just looking for my own little sun to shine
Looking for my own little world to rhyme
When catastrophe's behind every cloud
But no one seems to say it quite out loud
And you don't want to follow the Pied Piper
Caus he'll lead you to the sewer and confuse you with his sound
But when all's said and done....Repeat...

As some of you know., this is a style of song I love to write, and hope you will enjoy. I have added a description below, for anyone unfamiliar with Odin and the Tree Of Life.
Yggdrasil is also called the World Tree or Tree of Life because it contains all the worlds and represents the cycle of birth, growth, death, and rebirth. Yggdrasil is an important element of Norse mythology .. It is the Norse sacred tree of life, encompassing all nine worlds that are part of the ancient Norse view of the cosmos. It is an ash tree in which all of the worlds, including the world of humans and the world of the gods, nestle among the branches and roots
LYRICS
I'm not going to follow the lone wolf
My footprints head north to the frozen lake
I'm not going to fly with the ravens
I know I'll see them again in the warm spring rain
I'm not going to leave in the morning
I need the full , blood red moon to guide my way
And i'll hear his black horse in the distance
And the thunder of hooves, as I pray
Show me the way to Yggdrasil
Lay me down at his tree of life
Branches entwine my soul at Yggdrasil
Flesh and blood , spirit of life
I'll wait for the lone wolf to find me there
And i'll listen for the ravens to call
And i'll feel for my heart to be nourished
As the full moon meets the sunlight....

Anyway, I love this Cohen song, and thought i'd dig it out again
Blessings to you all
I hope you enjoy my take and thank you for listening:)
I thought i'd share this again today as I watch the butterflies in the sunshine:)
LYRICS
I sat with a butterfly on my toe
She just seemed to flutter in and give me a show
She waved at me , with her fire gold saffron wings
I was blessed to see nature do her thing..
I made a friend today, when the gossamer princess came my way
She flitter, fluttered at my feet
And made my toe her royal seat
Wonder if i'll see her again, the gossamer princess from the fairy glen.....
She stayed a while and then took her flight
But she seemed to want to keep me in sight
And before I knew it, she was flying there
Placing a daisy chain in my hair..
Ali Hammond Original song 2019
I still can't play guitar yet, with the old broken arm, so I return today with one from 2020 that I recorded. The beautiful Suzanne by Leonard Cohen.
Hope you are all enjoying the spring. Take care for now:)
To mark my Viking blood I have written this song, and sung it with as much chant vigour as possible.:) I could even add my old pagan drum without hurting my broken arm.Ha ha :) Apart from my own lyrics, I have chosen some real Viking quotes to use , such as
'' Where wolves ears are, wolves teeth are near''
This song is written about the Vikings first venture on our shores and the historic invasion of Lindisfarne
The Celtic/Nordic image is of Fenrir the viking god in Norse mythology
Hope you enjoy!
Lyrics
Where wolves ears are, wolves teeth are near
The West wind blows
The east wind blows
And the north wind sails with the dragon(Meaning long boats) And the swans
And the Tyne flows, yes the Tyne flows(River Tyne Northumbria)
And the raven knows to soar o'r the stained spear
'The swords age
The winds age
The wolves age
No mercy amongst men
And still the raven knows the souls of blood
Where wolves ears are, wolves teeth are near,
And the west wind blows
The east wind blows
The north wind sails with the dragon and the swans
And the raven flies, yes the raven flies
And he soars with the princes in the sky

So, a cover of one of my favourite songs by the amazing Joan Baez that I did back in 2017, and written by her as i'm sure many of you know about her turbulent relationship with Bob Dylan
Do you think Bob will ever live down the line'' My poetry was lousy you said''....:)!!
I recently watched Joan's 80 birthday concert on TV. She was incredible. She performed this and stopped at that line I mentioned. She and the audience just laughed...
Having said that, what an amazing couple she and Bob D made, and the music they created together, timeless and beautiful
Best wishes to you all and see you again later:)
Hope everyone is doing well. I'm still struggling with my broken arm. 6 weeks in and back and forth to hospital and now having some physio. I hope to be able to drive and function again in about another month to six weeks,
Take care friends
To all my Irish friends, who will celebrate throughout the world tomorrow. i wish you all a happy day:)
Thank you for listening
LYRICS
It was in the year of '45, the poisoned winds blew over
And Daddy worked those Autumn fields, and came home sad and sombre
His crops of strife, were blackened rot, that he'd spilt his life's blood over
And that was at the time when most of Ireland smiled no longer.
The winter chill seemed cold and long than any could remember
And the strongest, hardest fittest man, struggled weak in desperate hunger
But Mammy sang her song of hope, and plenty we might find
But the fever took her long before her dreams were brought to life
And the landlord came, and the landlord went, our empty purse did fall
And Daddy sweated tears and guts, to feed us one and all
And it was in the Spring of '46, he packed our bags,
And we headed off to Dublin docks, in sheets of shabby rags
And the fog came down, and the sails were set, as we left our homeland ground,
And other than the babies' cries we didn't hear a sound
And the waves did crash and darkness fell, as we huddled on our journey
And Daddy prayed he'd walk us all
On soil of hope and plenty
And as we reached that unknown shore, no welcome we did find,
Just dying starving, sick and tired,
Lay heavy on the ground
And as we passed the borderline,Daddy held my hand so gently
And he did pray he'd walk us all on soil of hope and plenty
Ali Hammond Original 2014
LYRICS
How I wish I was a little bird,
Caus' their flying's free, or so I've heard
I'd soar across a pale blue sky, so I could be with you.
Wish, I could ask a little bird,' they sing so sweetly,
That I've heard
I'd ask her very nicely,to sing my love to you
Fly little bird, fly so free
Soar on the wind
And sing your pretty song of love to him, from me.
How I wish I was a little star,
So you'd see me glowing from afar
I'd be so bright in the night sky
And shine my love on you
Wish I could ask a little star
To twinkle down where you are
I'd ask her very nicely, to give a diamond kiss to you
Shine little star, shine from afar,
Glow in the night skies
And send my twinkling diamond kiss
To where he lies
original song 2015
Personally , I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
My humble offering is in memory of the very talented Christine McVie .
I hope you enjoy my slowed down take:)
Hope you enjoy my humble take:)
LYRICS
Shame on the thoughts that took you away
Sad that the madness stopped your smile today
So many faces, nameless, just out for the ride
Skipping the track we like to play
It was a fickle song at the end of the day
Into the concrete, the focus of our dreams
I bought you a bouquet as the sun rose
You dropped in the gutter, with the weeds round your toes
Concrete folding, heavy in our minds
Too many people chiselled in stone
Too many souls thrown out in the road
Too many pavements calling you home
Caught on the cameras, neon and bright
You walked from the darkness, you needed the light
A heavy heart, drowning in clay
I sat in the park waiting for you
Moths on the seesaw, I'm sure that they knew
That the concrete made it too hard to stay
Too many people chiselled in stone
Too many souls thrown out in the road
Too many pavements calling you home

As I have quite a lot of Scottish blood in me , I always enjoy celebrating the great 'Rabbie's' eve, with a wee dram,: neeps and tatties', and for me , a vegetarian version of haggis:).
A flying visit today with a song from one of my favourite films and stage productions, 'Once' Written by the amazing Glen Hansard
Until the next time..Thanks for listening.
Be well, be safe, be happy :)
I'm also dedicating my last song of 2022 to my friend Ross White from Bonnie Scotland . We have only been connected here for a relatively short time, but like so many other wonderful YouTube buddies, i'm so happy to have come across his lovely channel. Ross is an amazing singer/songwriter and performer with the most stunning voice, and he covers many different genres of music and styles. I particularly love his folk songs:) He also happens to be a genuinely charming, warm and sensitive soul and i feel this projects in all his performances.I shall leave the link to Ross's channel below, and it's well worth a visit! All that's left to say is I thank those of you who have continued to support me when i share a song. Unfortunately I won't be able to visit very much again in 2023 as i'm expanding my art business and have some busy times ahead, but hope to upload the odd song from time to time and continue to support people here when I can.
Much happiness , peace and blessings to you all and a safe and healthy step into the new year ahead..

I have read his biography about his tough upbringing in Glasgow, and I think this song really sums up that no matter where we go in life or how famous a person may become...Home is always home and our upbringing shapes us for life...
Hope you enjoy my humble version of the great man's song )
This song is really a poem that will be part of an illustrated poetry book i'm slowly writing, and hopefully may finish next year. It follows the adventures of ''Wise Whiskers'' The old hare of the north and the friends he meets along the way.
For those who are not aware what Triskele/triskelia means . If you look at my painting you will see the symbol faintly on the moon. It's an ancient symbol found on many neolithic standing stones particularly in Ireland and represents many things, but usually life, death and rebirth in the pagan beliefs. It's a very spiritual sign, and of course truly mystical.
Below is a link to the origins for this song. My original poem Old wise whiskers and also a link to my art site for those who may be interested

Lyrics
The snowflakes fall down, on the frozen white ground
The forest's asleep, not an owl, not a sound
But for one mystic evening, when the moon shines so bright
Look to the sky, for a wonderful sight
Paws pitter patter as the skate and they glide
And take to the air, with grace in their stride
They soar up to lunar, kicking their heels
As she guides them so fair, over mountains and fields
For one night in winter, with magic to share
The moon she shone brightly
On the Triskele hares
They fly and they glimmer, as the stars pass them by
And they dance and they shimmer like gold in the sky
Then they land with the snowflakes on this eve that's so rare
Blink and you'll miss them
Those Triskele hares
Original lyrics and art work Ali Hammond
Morgan/ Morgana Le Fay, Arthur's half sister and enemy, is a powerful female figure in the Arthur legends. She represents control, sorcery, and manipulation. She uses underhanded, often manipulative methods to create her power. During King Arthur's reign, and in various romances and folk tales, Morgan shows up as a shape-shifter and also a healer.
Lyrics
Morgana you're the Queen of the waning moon
And you shape shift all you desire
Dance to the ancient call turn your passion into fire
And with your chorus of lovers gently sing
And soar me to Avalon on a raven's wing
Morgana land silently into my dreams
And let Arthur sleep so very still
Cast aside your secret, of the story never told
All is never what it seems
Let your heart unfold
With your chorus of lovers gently sing
And soar me to Avalon on a raven's wing
Morgana take me with a sigh to your realm of sorrow
Your mystic nature and healing ways from Merlin you did borrow
Gently whisper in my ear, your secret I will take
But remember not to put your hand.......
in that reedy lake
Ali Hammond original 2015
The "Lyke-Wake Dirge" is a traditional English folk song The song tells of the soul's travel, and the hazards it faces, on its way from earth to purgatory. Though it is from the Christian era and features references to Christianity, much of the symbolism is thought to be of pre-Christian pagan..
There are variations of this song throughout the UK , but it's mainly associated with Yorkshire and the lyrics are old Yorkshire dialect which I have tried to stick to the best I can, Some of the words are of German/ Norwegian origin dating back to ancient language in England.
It's a Traditional one i return to at this time of year, as Celtic/pagan I do not celebrate the contrived 'Halloween ' but the celebration of this time for pagans and Celts alike, ,' Samhain,' where we honour and remember all our loved ones who have passed.
There are still Samhain pagan celebrations today, throughout England, Ireland and very much associated with The Isle Of Man too, where the harvest is thanked and blessed and great feasts are had , and doors and windows on this eve are left slightly ajar to welcome back the souls of loved ones. I always leave my window slightly ajar.
Hope you enjoy my version of this song, and there are plenty to find. who have covered it. Pentangle and the Young Traditions being just two worthy listens. As already mentioned,
the song is written in an old form of the Yorkshire dialect of Northern English, although some of the words have both Germanic and Norwegian roots.
Thanks as always for listening
Lyrics
There's no point telling you what my thoughts are feeling
There's no point telling you, that there's nothing healing
The summer song's been sung, and now it's out of tune
So i'll take my chances and fly
with the birds in a storm
There's no point giving you, when everything's been given
There's no point telling you, what's been said before
The winter song is calling. and we still can't sing in tune
And so i'll take my chances and fly
With the birds in a storm..........
There's no point holding tightly, when everything's been broken
There's no point hurting you, when there's no more pain to feel
All the music has faded on the wind, and we can't remember one tune.........
And so i'll take my chances and fly with birds in a storm
