Kendra 2023-02-05 | I've been meaning to put this one out for a while now. I actually recorded this the week after the infamous Stranger Things episode aired, but life got in the way (as it always does) and so I didn't get around to mixing it until recently.

I decided to make the video a little tribute to Max, as she's one of my favourite characters on the show. The instrumental I used is actually the beautiful arrangement by Rob Simonsen that plays during the end credits of the Max episode, which I cut and edited to make a little longer and suitable for adding vocals. I also had to add a bit of piano and vocals to the start as some sounds from the end of the episode actually bled over into the start of the song.

Kendra 2022-05-01 | I happened upon this song completely by accident and just instantly loved it, so I knew I had to cover it! This is also my first song experimenting with adding a full choir to it and I just LOVE how it's turned out!

Didn't really know what to do with the video, but since I spent so much time on the song, I ran out of energy to do something fancy. I ended up just going with something simple, but nice. The song felt well suited for something fantasy themed, so I found this Elden Ring live wallpaper and I thought it gave equal parts beautiful, creepy, and grand vibes, just like the song.

Kendra 2022-01-27 | I have been wanting to cover this song for YEARS but only recently found the instrumental to it! I'm obsessed with this version lol. I'm also proud to say this is my first cover in my new place!

It's a very cinematic arrangement, which I felt needed a cinematic video, so I decided to go with a space theme because what's more epic than space? I also I love all things space so this gave me an excuse. I used clips from two space shows I really like: Alien Worlds (Netflix) and Universe (BBC). The Last Goodbye (WW1 Remembrance Day Tribute) - Cover By Kendra Masonchuck

Kendra 2020-11-11 | It's been a while since I did a Remembrance Day tribute, and this year I wanted to specifically do a World War 1 tribute. I recently watched They Shall Not Grow Old, an amazing documentary film by Peter Jackson where he restored and colourized a bunch of old WW1 footage, which is where I pulled most of the clips from. It's an brilliant and hard hitting documentary and I highly highly HIGHLY recommend that everyone watch it.

I always wanted to give a huge shoutout to Alex Paradise, whom I sourced the black and white clips from. He did a 30 minute video of footage from the Battle of the Somme where he painstakingly stabilized and speed corrected the footage. I mirrored all the footage in the hopes that YouTube wont take down my video as I did work quite hard on it, so if any of the footage looks off, that's probably why.

The song is The Last Goodbye originally sung by Billy Boyd, from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I thought it was quite fitting lyrically, and also the fact that it's from a Peter Jackson film as well. I added my own harmonies to make the song a little more personalized to me.

BBs Theme (Death Stranding) - Cover by Kendra Masonchuck

This game has literally been my ENTIRE quarantine. I spent the first half playing the game, and the second half working on this cover! This game was amazing and made me cry like a baby (cry like a BB? Okay I'll stop...)

I used the instrumental from the amazing Yohann Busani (youtube.com/watch?v=Rnv0xeU2ayk) and personalized it for myself. I added some Hans Zimmer drums, a few base drops, symbols, synths, male chorus lines, and added the baby laughter at the end. I also worked hard to match a lot of the clips to the music. I sifted through over 10 hours of game cinematics, picking out over 100 clips, and then narrowing those down to what you see in my video. With all the effort I put into the video, I decided to make it a little bit bigger in the frame.

I also had to guess at many of the harmonies on the backing vocals (I think I made a few of them up in the end *shrugs*) and I also wasn't sure on the lyrics as there are many different versions online and it's hard in places to hear in the original, so I just went with one. Sorry if it's wrong!

Kendra 2017-06-10 | Where to start... This might be a bit of a long one. This is a song I never thought I would be capable of singing. I've wanted to sing this song for an incredibly long time, but I've always felt like it was just beyond me. I have a lot of trouble belting on closed vowel sounds like "Ooo's" and "Eee's", don't know why, I just have. Recently, I finished a show with my academy and it's done something for me that no other performance has ever been able to do for me before. It completely wiped away all my nerves. I have never been able to sing as well on stage as I can in my bedroom and that's mostly down to my nerves inhibiting me, but after my freeing experience performing with Staveley Theatre Academy, I feel like a whole realm of possibilities has opened up for me as a performer so I decided to go for this song and I'm so incredibly thrilled that I managed to do it. I've been meaning to redo this song for about 5 years now, but I wanted to redo it with a proper instrumental instead of a low quality vocal remove track. I was hoping over the years someone would release a backing track for it, but it just never happened to my knowledge. I've come a long way as a recording artist since then though, and have acquired the skills and means to create my own adequette backing tracks when the occasion calls for it. I realized this was such an occasion and decided to have a go at making an instrumental for Lovers. It's not perfect, nor is it professional quality, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Ive also had loads and loads of people ask for the backing track to my original cover over the years, but I lost my files from back then and at the time, I didn't know how to create a vocal remove track (someone else had made it for me). I told many people that if I ever came across a new one, I'd share it. I fully intended to do that with this one, but have run into a few complications along the way that I'm trying to sort through before posting my instrumental. If and when it gets sorted, I will post a link to my instrumental here in the description. In the mean time, now that I have the know-how to create vocal remove tracks, I've recreated the track I used in my original cover. Skyrim: The Dragonborn Comes (Malukah Version) - Cover By Kendra Masonchuck

Kendra 2015-08-07 | I realize that this is a cover of a cover, but I really wanted to do something from Skyrim, one of my favorite games, and Malukah's cover of this in-game song is just stunning. Since my vocal style is quite different than Malukah's, I decided to try a bit of a different take on her arrangement in an attempt to make it suit my voice better. Instead of using a guitar for my backing, I used a piano and I also added a few extra vocal harmonies to the song. I also extended the dragon language verse and added an extra vocal bit for the closing Skyrim title. Hopefully, it worked out alright lol.

I used the live action trailer for my video as well as some of the regular game trailer clips to fill in the gaps because the live action trailer was too short lol.

Anyways, I just finished a 3 week holiday with a friend and I was eager to record something quick so I decided on this little old favorite of mine from Sarah Brightman's Harem album. I decided to sing the French version as it's just such a lovely language to sing in. Also this song was written by Canadian composer Stephan Moccio, so yay for a Canadian song!

The French version lyrics are actually quite different from the English ones so don't bother looking up the English lyrics. Here's the translation (roughly):

I am absolutely in love with Kerry Ellis's version, I think maybe more than the original...gyah I have no words for her awesomeness, and I'm well aware I don't come close to her. Another insanely long gap between videos again, I'm sorry! I'm really going to try to upload covers more frequently now, as my schedule is starting to return to normal.

So for those of you who haven't noticed, I love to do unique covers every now and then when I can. This usually happens when I either find the time to arrange my own instrumentals or I find a unique instrumental someone else has made. This case is the latter. Last week, I was doing a performance for an agent singing Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again and I needed to find a backing track to use. I did the usual YouTube search and came across this beautifully unique arrangement by Teddy Nasr. While I didn't use it for my performance (I dont think I would have been able to) I did decide that I wanted to record a cover to Teddy's arrangement for my YouTube channel. So, I bought the track and asked him for permission, and I'm thrilled and honored that he said yes!

Teddy Nasr is an incredibe composer, arranger, and producer and has many instrumentals on his website which he has re-arranged, re-orchestrated, recorded, mixed and mastered. This turned into a much bigger project than I anticipated. I originally just wanted to put up something quick but seeing as this isn't technically a vocal piece, there was no instrumental without the original vocals for me to use, so I had to create my own. I used Kontakt 5 with LA Strings, Philharmonik, and various sections from the original to create my backing. I also arranged in my own vocal harmonies and added an extra vocal verse so I could sing more in this piece.

I realize that people either love or hate this game (for me personally, it is a huge favorite) but I mainly wanted to cover something from this game because I am absolutely in love with the soundtrack (Thank you Lorne Balfe and Hans Zimmer!!) So hopefuly you all enjoy it whether you love or hate the game, or even if you aren't a gamer, because the score is just magnificent.

When I Am Laid In Earth (Remembrance Day Tribute) - Cover By Kendra Masonchuck

Kendra 2014-11-09 | I know it's not the 11th yet, but it is Remembrance Sunday here in the UK so I thought I would upload this today. If you've been subscribed to me since I first started on YouTube or have taken the time to go through my videos, you've probably noticed that I have done Remembrance Day videos for Canadian, American, and British forces, both for personal reasons and out of general respect and gratitude. This time, I decided to do something a little bit different for my tribute video and make it more generalized. I recently watched a World War 2 movie that did something most war movies don't do. It strongly portrayed the human element of war on both sides and that's something that I really felt was important. It can be easy for people to overlook the staggering loss of overall human life and I wanted to try to emphasize that. I wanted to do a video that didn't just convey thanks to those who served but one that showed the gravity of sorrow for so many lives lost. I'm not sure such a song exists, but I wanted to try to get close.

The song I used is When I Am Laid In Earth (Sometimes called Dido's Lament) from Henry Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas. I was a bit unsure if using it was appropriate for a Remembrance Day tribute but then I realised that not only was it used in the HBO's Band Of Brothers series, but it has also been played for many Remembrance Sunday ceremonies in the UK over the years in which the Royal Family pay tribute. So if it's good enough for the Royal Family, it's good enough for me!

I decided to use the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra's version of this piece as my backing because it was so much more powerful and moving than any other instrumental I could find, although I did have to modify it to include the last repeat and to be in the key I preferred.

Lindsey Stirling is one of my favourite musicians and since I am not exactly an epic violinist like she is, I can't really cover any of her songs. This is the closest I can get, and I'm actually pretty disappointed that I couldn't make the violin in my backing track louder. I'm also no Lzzy Hale, but I did have fun singing this!

I actually did this song aaaages ago but at the time, Frozen had just come out so I decided not to upload it because of a certain other song from Frozen with a similar title *cough*. I figured I'd get a bazillion dislikes because Let It Go was in such high demand back then and people would be disappointed it wasn't that song lol.

This is a really special song for me, not because of the song itself, but because I created the instrumental myself and I'm really proud of it. The only part of the instrumental I didn't do myself was the piano which was an accompaniment track I purchased from Sing2Piano, which I built the rest of the instrumental around. I used LA Strings on Protools 9 to create all the stringed instruments, which is basically what the entire song is made of. I found a live orchestral version of Avril singing which I drew my inspiration from, listening incessantly to the track over and over again in order to learn each individual string part of the instrumental and also improvising on some others.

My mom bought me Charlotte Church's Enchantment CD when I was younger and it's the only album of hers I've ever owned so I listened to it quite a lot. I really like this arrangement of a song I already loved anyways. I can't remember what it actually says on the back of the CD case, because I don't have it anymore, but I believe that it's just titled "The Little Horses" instead of the usual "All The Pretty Little Horses" or "All The Pretty Horses."

Kendra 2014-05-12 | This month I had the incredible experience of getting to sing for the amazing Sierra Boggess for a masterclass and this is the song I chose. The feedback I got was invaluable and inspirational so I tried to apply her amazing advice to my song so I could do the best cover I could.

I also tried to make this song as unique to myself as possible, not trying to cover one particular person (especially Kristen Chenoweth lol) even though I did watch many many MANY different performances of this song to draw inspiration from.

I honestly don't know why I haven't done this song sooner, but now I'm glad I didn't. I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I did singing it for Sierra, and since the masterclass wasn't allowed to be recorded, here's a couple pictures from the day!

Kendra 2014-03-27 | I know this is quite different from what I usually upload but the main focus of this cover isn't vocal showcase. I wanted to experiment with vocal processing/effects and to play around with footage editing: two things I don't really have experience in. I had no idea (still don't) what effects were put on the original vocals so it was a lot of messing around with different plugins. Even though in the end my vocals wound up having a completely different sound to them, I kind of ended up liking the result.
