Diorite vase: 2 years of blood, sweat and hate | Experiment results @ScientistsAgainstMyths

Scientists Against Myths Is it possible to make a vase from an extremely hard stone using ancient Egyptian technology? No metal: just stone, bone, wood, sand and a lot of persistence. No one has done this in the last couple of thousand years.
The project started in August 2020 and lasted more than two years. The funds were collected through crowdfunding on the Planeta.ru site. We thank everyone who helped the experiment take place! Reconstructors Olga and Yulia spent 5 days a week hammering, chopping, sawing, drilling and polishing diorite in a small workshop in Kemerovo, under the watchful gaze of two webcams broadcasting online.

Experiment results:
Total duration: 790 days (546 work days)
Initial weight of diorite piece: 15.36 kg
Workpiece weight after cracking: 3.78 kg
Final weigh of the vase: 1.12 kg
Maximum length of diorite piece: 42 cm
Final height of the vase: 15 cm

Characteristics of the 3D scan of the vase:
- Deviations from the circle in three sections perpendicular to the axis of the vase, within ~0.3..0.4 mm.
- The angle between the axis and the plane of the upper end is ~89.92 degrees.
- Deviation from the flatness of the upper end is within ~0.12 mm.
The measurements using Geomagic Design X software were carried out by Alexey Pimenov, a specialist in 3D measuring systems.

Tar: 7 kg (part was unusable)
Leather: 2 halves of cow hide
Cow bones: 2 metatarsal, 2 unidentified
Sandstone: ≈ 300 kg

At the same time, according to Petrie, the thread pitch was the same everywhere. 2.5 mm with deviations of no more than 0.25 mm. Yes, stone cutters do not have such cutters, capable of going into granite by 2.5 mm per revolution, even in the 21st century!

Scientists Against Myths 2023-06-06 | Transportation of Mussolini Obelisk from the quarries in the Apuan Alps. Italian Newsreel, March 1929.

The weight of a piece of marble is 300 tons. Enclosed in a protective casing (which weighed another 50 tons) the marble block was dragged by 36 pairs of oxen along wooden skating rinks, smeared with soap. The obelisk covered 11 kilometers in this way.

Can a tool made from a softer metal work harder material? What happens to a copper chisel if you try it on dolomite?

Stephanie Fae Beauclair was born with the hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which means that the left side of her heart was severely underdeveloped. And even though the little girl was otherwise healthy , she was unlikely to survive the first two weeks of her life. Only a heart transplant could save the child. Mysterious Ancient Artifact - DIY. Alternate history fans, please look away

Scientists Against Myths 2020-02-18 | One might wonder - how exactly stone vases were made in an era when even copper tools were considered a luxury? Olga Vdovina decided to try and perform a unique experiment - to produce a functional stone vessel while utilizing "primitive technologies" approach (with no metal tools whatsoever). All the work was done while using stone, hide, wood and bone materials only.

Attention! Alternative history experts and fans of "Ancient Alien" and "Ancient Machining" technologies - we suggest you keep away and take it easy.

Ancient Egyptian bird shaped vessel (produced circa 5100 years ago) was used as a prototype for this experiment. As far as we are aware, no one attempted to conduct it previously.

Original specimen: Limestone breccia vessel. Ancient Egypt, Nakada. Circa 3100 BC. British Museum (Reference: BM35306).

- Wood: 2 maple trees

Making a stone vase with primitive tools: Lost Ancient High Technology

Scientists Against Myths 2020-01-02 | An experiment in making a stone vase using stone and copper tools. Reconstruction of ancient technology.

The experiment was not intended to copy the ancient method of stone carving in detail. The idea was to show the possibility of doing such work using simple tools.

Examples of stone vases (Ancient Egypt): pinterest.co.uk/pin/769623023795655628

- Material: breccia marble from the Narvsky open pit in the Krasnoyarsk Territory
- Ingoing size: 200x200x200mm
- Finished size: 80x135mm
- Tool materials: wood, sandstone, corundum (grindstone + grinding agent), hemp string, alabaster, quartz.
- Self-made tools: a grinding and drilling machine, a bow drill, a chambering tool (a grindstone on a wooden handle), a copper saw, copper drills of various diameters.
- Total work time: about 6 months, 6 to 8 hours a day, excepting 2 days off a week. At least 2 months of this time period were spent on making and testing the tools.

2 emergencies occurred during the work process:
1. An emergency at the roughing-out stage: almost half of the block broke off due to a fault in the stone, which made it necessary to significantly reduce the height of the workpiece.
2. An emergency at the chambering stage: a piece of the outer rim of the throat split off, which made it necessary to glue the chip onto its place.

Scientists Against Myths 2019-11-06 | Let’s talk about the various myths of human evolution. Let’s start by looking at what is perhaps “myth number one” on the list of anti-evolutionist arguments: “Nobody has ever seen an ape turning into a human.”

I think the reason is that the phrase “humans evolved from apes or monkeys” has really become a catchphrase that represents the entire theory of evolution in the mind of most lay people.
If we take this phrase literally, then we should be able to go to the zoo and look at monkeys jumping to their feet, shedding their tails and hair, and turning into handsome lads or lasses– depending on their biological sex.

However, nobody has ever seen that happen, so scientists must be hoaxing people, right? Well, not quite.
