Nicola Westley 2018 Gender Reveal Leechburg Lights 2019-07-06 | About 6 days before Christmas 2018, I was asked by Nicola Westley (Keith Westley's daughter, and lead developer of the xLights lighting software used to create the display) to do a gender reveal. My plan was to create this sequence so Nicola could run it on their Home display and reveal her child's gender to her father. Unfortunately, the Westley home went dark due to some local challenges. So, I decided to program this to my home and shoot this video. Yes I know the icicles are out :( guurrr... but after 14 hours of programming on Christmas Eve, then recording at 3am with 2 different angles, video editing and rendering; I finally was able to present this to Nicola as a Christmas Day present for her and her family in Australia. I am finally listing the video as public on YouTube on July 6, as the jig is up :) Congratulations to Nicola with her first-born and huge WELCOME to Ashton Orlando Westley.

DIY Bridge and Pixel Extenders Leechburg Lights 2018-02-10 | This video walks through the use of the DIY LED Express 6 universe bridge. I put this together some time ago and wanted to share the build and hopefully give a bit of education on it. The DIY Bridge connects to your computer via e1.31 and can output pixel data to 6 pixel extenders. It uses either the GECE or ws2811 pixel protocols. The bridge works perfectly for remote props since data is sent via RS485 to the extender. I use a network wire to run the data from the bridge out to the extender. xLights Faces Group Project 2018 Leechburg Lights 2018-01-24 | Ed Smith commissioned the biggest community group project to-date with the xLights community. Ed asked members of the xLights Facebook group to create and submit one singing faces lyric track and in-turn each member would have the opportunity select and use any other participant's singing faces track. Everyone who participates is welcome to use the library! I had the time to jump into zoom and do a demo on the Faces effect and help answer some questions about the process. xLights Presets: Save, Share, and Import Effects From Other Users Leechburg Lights 2017-10-25 | This video shows how you can save an effect and reuse in any other sequence. In the xLights sequencing screen you can use the right-click menu and select Preset. This opens up the preset screen and you can select any effects, highlight them all, and click Save Presets. Later on, you can apply those preset effects to any other sequence you like. Also there is the ability to export or import a preset effect so you can trade and share them.

Fresh Install xLights 2017.30 with QM/Audacity Vamp Timing Plug-in Leechburg Lights 2017-09-30 | For all those users getting into xLights for the first time, I am documenting my initial install of xLights on my new Ryzen 1600 computer build. I was going to begin using the new desktop for sequencing today but thought it might be helpful to show a FULL and FRESH install of ALL THE SOFTWARE that I use. I'm hoping to clear up all of the confusion that my previous videos may have caused (not mentioning the c++ plugin as well). This is a one-time install, meaning you need only install the c++ and the Vamp plug-in one time. Any newer version of xLights you install will already have access to those files, so no other updating is required (as of 9/30/2017).

OMG! xLights Keeps Crashing!!!!! WTH????? Why wont they fix it? Leechburg Lights 2017-08-19 | We all know that xLights is FREE for anyone to use or download, but what happens when it's broken? Well, most every version of xLights is a Beta release. This means that the source code can possibly have issues. Because each xLights user has a different way to in which they operate the program, it is impossible for any developer to create every situation that could cause the program to crash. The developers depend and rely on the individual users to give feedback when there is a reproducible error. If you are able to get the program to crash, receive a bug report, or otherwise have an issue; this video will show you what you need to do to get the problem resolved.

Creating Concentric Stars & Wreaths in xLights 2017 Leechburg Lights 2017-08-05 | This is an update to an older video on how to build models in xLights for multi-layer stars and wreaths. Many folks take the time to build these models in Excel, and that is no longer necessary. This video is not to discourage people from sharing models. It is meant to explain how the xLights program can create the models for you. Related: Check out my other video on sharing custom models via the XMODEL export and import options. If you have created a custom Excel-base model and would like to share it, realize there are some great benefits to using xLights to export the model. An XMODEL saves prop definitions and settings, which are packaged up with the custom design. This is especially helpful if you have pixelized singing faces with the phonemes saved and pre-set. Transfering xLights Sequences to Multiple Computers Leechburg Lights 2017-02-22 | I have seen the question asked many times, "How do I continue to sequence a song on a different computer?" Many people sequence using their desktop computer, but want to be able to go mobile and sequence on their laptop when they are away from home. I use DrobBox on all my computers, which instantly updates any files, to house my sequence and backup files. If you don't have DropBox, you can always manually copy and paste the xLights files to a thumbdrive and transfer to laptop for easy portability.
