"Smuglianka" was composed in 1940 by choral conductor Anatoliy Grigorevich Novikov (1896-1984), with lyrics by Yakov Shvedov (1905-1985). It was written in the style of a Moldovan folk song and was commissioned by the political office of the Kiev Military District to commemorate the leader of two Moldovan rebellions against the Russian Empire. The song celebrates female partisans of the Russian Civil War.
The picture shown in the video is an illustration from a postcard titled "Girl-Partisan."
Lyrics, transliteration, and translation below:
Lyrics:
English Translation:
Once a summer, at dawn,
I glanced at the next garden.
There a swarthy woman, a Moldovan
was picking grapes.
I blushed, I grew pale,
I suddenly wanted to say
"Let's go greet summer dawns
over the river!"
Chorus × 2:
The maple all curly and green, its leaves as if carved!
I'm in love and abashed in front of you.
The maple is green and curly,
and curly and carved!
But the swarthy woman, the Moldovan
Said in mood:
"We Moldovan partisans
are forming a squad.
Early the partisans
left their homes.
The road awaits you,
to join them in the dense forest."
Chorus × 2:
The maple all curly and green, its leaves as if carved!
Here, under the maple, we will part.
The maple is green and curly,
and all curly and carved!
Then the swarthy, the Moldovan
took the path into the forest.
I was hurt that she left me
without inviting accompany
About the swarthy, the Moldovan
I thought often in the nights …
Then in the forest, of a sudden,
I found my swarthy one in the ranks!
Chorus × 2:
The maple is curly and green, its leaves as if carved!
Hello, my dear, my darling!
The maple is green and curly,
all curly and carved!
Latin Transliteration:
Kak-to letom, na rassvete,
Zagljanul v sosednij sad.
Tam smugljanka-moldavanka
Sobirajet vinograd.
Ja krasneju, ja bledneju,
Zahotelos' vdrug skazat':
— Stanem nad rekoju
Zor'ki letnije vstrečat'!
Chorus × 2:
Raskudrjavyj kljon zeljonyj – list reznoj.
Ja vljubljonnyj i smuščjonnyj pred toboj.
Kljon zeljonyj, da kljon kudrjavyj,
Da raskudrjavyj, reznoj!
A smugljanka-moldavanka
Otvečala parnju v lad:
— Partizanskij, moldavanskij
Sobirajem my otrjad.
Nynče rano partizany
Dom pokinuli rodnoj.
ždjot tebja doroga
K partizanam v les gustoj.
Chorus × 2:
Raskudrjavyj kljon zeljonyj – list reznoj.
Zdes' u kljona my rasstanemsja s toboj.
Kljon zeljonyj, da kljon kudrjavyj,
Da raskudrjavyj, reznoj!
I smugljanka-moldavanka
Po tropinke v les ušla.
V tom obidu ja uvidel,
Čto s soboj ne pozvala.
O smugljanke-moldavanke
Často dumal po nočam ...
Vdrug svoju smugljanku
Ja v otrjade povstrečal!
Chorus × 2:
Raskudrjavyj kljon zeljonyj – list reznoj.
Zdravstvuj, paren', moj horošij, moj rodnoj!
Kljon zeljonyj, da kljon kudrjavyj,
Da raskudrjavyj, reznoj!

The national anthem of the Republic of China (中華民國國歌) is informally called "San Min Chu-i" (三民主義) from its opening line, which cites the "Three Principles of the People," a central political philosophy of the Kuomintang. The text for the anthem was adapted from a 1924 speech by Sun Yat-sen, who was the first head of state of the Republic of China. The Kuomintang party held a contest for the accompanying music, and Cheng Maoyun's composition was chosen for the national anthem.
The "Three Principles of the People" was adopted in 1930 as the national anthem of China (then the Republic of China). Following its defeat by the Chinese Communist Party in the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the government of the Republic of China was relegated to the Island of Taiwan, where "San Min Chu-i" remains the national anthem. The war ended with Communist control of mainland China, and the ROC anthem was replaced by the "March of the Volunteers" in Mainland China.

The image shown in the video is a variant of the East Primisian flag.
In the lore, Primistan existed first as the unified Republic of Primistan, following its secession in 1865 from the Velarian Confederation, of which it had been a principality since 1813. In the aftermath of a coup carried out in 1941, Primistan fractured into three states: West Primistan, East Primistan, and the Primisian State (Central Primistan).

The piece was composed by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka in 1833 and was originally entitled “Motif de chant national.” In November of 1990, the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR approved the song as the national anthem of the RSFSR. After December of 1991, the piece continued to be used as the anthem of the Russian Federation until 2000. The anthem had no official lyrics; unofficial lyrics were proposed but were never adopted.
The image in the video is a photo of pro-Yeltsin barricades at the House of Soviets of Russia (White House) during the 1991 Soviet coup attempt.
Unofficial lyrics:
English Translation:
Be glorious, be glorious, Mother Russia!
You passed through the centuries and the thunderstorms
And the sun shines above you
And your destiny is bright.
Above the ancient Moscow Kremlin
Waves the banner with the two-headed eagle
And the sacred words resound:
Be glorious, Russia – my Fatherland!
The song is also used with the following lyrics as an ode to Moscow:
Здравствуй, славная столица,
Сердце Родины - Москва!
Вся страна тобой гордится,
Городов родных глава.
Русь великую сплотила
Ты вокруг твердынь Кремля,
И окрепла наша сила
Да прославилась земля.
Ты как воин отражала
Каждый вражеский набег.
Ты Отчизну отстояла
от захватчиков навек!
И когда народ встречает
Дни побед и торжества,
Взор и сердце обращает
Он всегда к тебе, Москва!

The lyrics to the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” were written in 1861 by Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910) during the American Civil War. Howe’s lyrics were adapted from the marching song “John Brown’s Body,” which was written about the abolitionist John Brown (1800-1859), who was executed after inciting a slave rebellion.
The tune of the song came from a folk hymn known as “Glory Hallelujah” or “Say, Brothers, Will You Meet Us,” which developed in Protestant camp meetings in the 1700s.
The image in the video is an 1887 painting titled “Battle of Antietam,” by Thule de Thulstrup. It depicts the charge of the Iron Brigade near the Dunker Church on September 17, 1862.
Lyrics:
I
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:
His truth is marching on.
Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
II
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps:
His day is marching on.
Chorus
III
I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
"As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal";
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Chorus
IV
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.
Chorus
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me.
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
While God is marching on.
Chorus
Lyrics for “John Brown’s Body”
Old John Brown's body lies a moldering in the grave,
While weep the sons of bondage whom he ventured all to save;
But though he sleeps his life was lost while struggling for the slave,
His soul is marching on.
Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His soul is marching on.
John Brown was a hero, undaunted, true and brave,
And Kansas knew his valor when he fought her rights to save;
And now, though the grass grows green above his grave,
His soul is marching on.
(Chorus)
He captured Harper's Ferry, with his nineteen men so few,
And frightened "Old Virginny" till she trembled through and through
They hung him for a traitor, themselves a traitor crew,
But his soul is marching on.
(Chorus)
John Brown was John the Baptist of the Christ we are to see—
Christ who of the bondmen shall the Liberator be,
And soon throughout the Sunny South the slaves shall all be free,
For his soul is marching on.
(Chorus)
The conflict that he heralded he looks from heaven to view,
On the army of the Union with its flag red, white and blue.
And heaven shall ring with anthems o'er the deed they mean to do,
For his soul is marching on.
(Chorus)
Ye soldiers of Freedom, then strike, while strike ye may,
The death blow of oppression in a better time and way,
For the dawn of old John Brown has brightened into day,
And his soul is marching on.
(Chorus)
Lyrics for “Say, Brothers”
I
Say, brothers, will you meet us (3x)
On Canaan’s happy shore.
Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah! (3x)
Forever, evermore!
II
By the grace of God we’ll meet you (3x)
Where parting is no more.
Chorus
III.
Jesus lives and reigns forever (3x)
On Canaan’s happy shore.
Chorus

"Ein Heller und ein Batzen," also known as "Heidi, heido, heida," is a German folk song. The lyrics were written as a student drinking song by Albert von Schlippenbach (1800-1886) in the 1820s, while he was studying law at the Georg-August University of Göttingen.
Several melodies have been composed for Schlippenbach's lyrics. The authorship of the most well-known melody, featured in this video, is unknown.
The Heller and Batzen were historical coins used by German states from the Middle Ages until the 19th and 20th centuries, respectively. The song's chorus consists of the words "heidi," "heido," and "heida." These are all modifications of the name "Adelheid."
The image in the video depicts the ground-floor beer halls of the Royal Brewery in Munich.
Lyrics:
Ein Heller und ein Batzen,
die waren beide mein,
der Heller ward zu Wasser,
der Batzen ward zu Wein.
Refrain:
𝄆 Heidi, heido, heida, 𝄇
heidi, heido, heida, la la la la la la la,
𝄆 Heidi, heido, heida, 𝄇 (3×)
Die Wirtsleut und die Mädel,
die rufen beid: Oh weh!
Die Wirtsleut, wenn ich komme,
die Mädel, wenn ich geh.
Refrain
Meine Strümpfe sind zerrissen,
meine Stiefel sind entzwei,
und draußen auf der Heide,
da singt der Vogel frei.
Refrain
Und gäb's kein Landstraß nirgends,
da säß ich still zu Haus,
und gäb's kein Loch im Fasse,
da tränk ich gar nicht draus.
Refrain
War das 'ne große Freude,
als ihn der Herrgott schuf;
ein Kerl, wie Samt und Seide,
nur schade, daß er suff.
Refrain
English Translation:
A heller and a batzen,
they were both mine,
the heller went for water,
the batzen went for wine.
Refrain
The innkeepers and the girls,
both shout: Oh no!
The innkeepers when I come,
the girls when I leave.
Refrain
My socks are ripped,
my boots have come apart,
and out in the brush
the bird sings freely.
Refrain
And were there no country roads,
I'd be sitting quietly at home,
and were there no hole in the barrel,
I wouldn't be drinking from it.
Refrain
Wasn't it a great joy
when the Lord God created him,
a guy like velvet and silk;
just a pity that he drank.
Refrain

The State Anthem of the Estonian SSR (Eesti NSV hümn/Гимн Эстонской ССР) was composed by Gustav Ernesaks (1908-1993), with lyrics by poet Johannes Semper (1892-1970). The lyrics were revised in 1956 during the de-Stalinization period.
The anthem was relinquished on 8 May 1990, when the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian SSR passed a law that changed the official name of the Estonian state and discontinued the usage of Soviet state symbols. The flag of the Estonian SSR is shown in the video.
1956 Lyrics (Estonian):
Jää kestma, Kalevite kange rahvas,
ja seisa kaljuna, me kodumaa!
Ei vaibund kannatustes sinu vahvus,
end läbi sajanditest murdsid sa
ja tõusid õitsvaks sotsialismimaaks,
et päikene su päevadesse paista saaks.
Nüüd huuga, tehas, vili, nurmel vooga,
sirp, lõika, alasile, haamer, löö!
Nõukogu elu, tuksu võimsa hooga,
too õnne rahvale, me tubli töö!
Me Liidu rahvaste ja riike seas
sa, Eesti, sammu esimeste kindlas reas!
Sa kõrgel Leninlikku lippu kannad
ja julgelt kommunismi rada käid.
Partei me sammudele suuna annab
ja võidult võitudele viib ta meid.
Ta kindlal juhtimisel kasva sa
ja tugevaks ning kauniks saa, me kodumaa!
English Translation of the 1956 Lyrics:
Endure, heroic people of Kalevs
And stand like a boulder, our homeland!
Your courage did not subside in the sufferings,
You broke yourself through the centuries,
and became a flourishing socialist country,
For the sun could shine in your days.
Now roar! O factories, waves and cornfields!
Reap! O sickle! And strike! O hammer!
May the Soviet life throb in mighty swing;
May happiness be brought to the folks through good labor!
Among the nations and states of our Union,
You, Estonia, march at the firm forefront!
You're bearing Lenin's banner high,
And boldly following the path of Communism.
Our Party will give us direction
And will lead us from victory to victory.
You will grow under its firm leadership
And become strong and beautiful, our Homeland!
Original 1945 Lyrics (Estonian):
Jää kestma, Kalevite kange rahvas,
ja seisa kaljuna, me kodumaa!
Ei vaibund kannatustes sinu vahvus,
end läbi sajanditest murdsid sa.
Ja tõusid töötajate vabaks maaks,
et päikene su päevadesse paista saaks.
Nüüd huuga, tehas, vili, nurmel vooga,
sirp, lõika, alasile, haamer, löö!
Nõukogu elu, tuksu võimsa hooga,
too õnne rahvale, me tubli töö!
Me Liidu rahvaste ja riike seas
sa, Eesti, sammu esimeste kindlas reas!
Kui kants-nii seisavad su kodurannad,
su ees vaid lainetavad laiad veed.
Sa kõrgel Leninlikku lippu kannad
suur Stalin juhtimas su tõusuteed.
Käi kindlalt, saatmas sind su õnneteel
me võitlusvaim ja kohkumatu mehemeel!
English Translation of the Original Lyrics:
Endure, heroic people of Kalevs
And stand like a boulder, our homeland!
Your courage did not subside in the sufferings,
You broke yourself through the centuries,
And arose a socialist country in blossom,
For the sun could shine in your days.
Now roar! O factories, waves and cornfields!
Reap! O sickle! And strike! O hammer!
May the Soviet life throb in mighty swing;
May happiness be brought to the folks through good labor!
Among the nations and states of our Union,
You, Estonia, march in the firm forefront!
Your home beaches stand like a castle,
Wide waters only wave before you.
You're bearing Lenin's banner high,
Great Stalin's leading your ascent.
March steadily with our fighting spirit
And bold manly mind guiding you!

Deutschlandlied (officially titled "Das Lied der Deutschen") is the national anthem of Germany. Its tune, originally called "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser," was composed by Joseph Haydn in 1797 as a personal hymn for Francis II, who was the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later the emperor of Austria. After the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian Empire adopted the tune as its national anthem, changing the words from "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" to "Gott erhalte, Gott Beschütze." Austro-Hungarian Empire used the tune as its national anthem until its dissolution in 1918.
The lyrics to the German national anthem were written by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1841, prior to German unification. The first verse includes the words "Deutschland über alles in der welt," meaning "Germany, above all in the world." These words were intended to be a call to prioritize a united Germany over the sovereignty of the small German states. The geographical boundaries of Germany included in the first verse do not fall within modern Germany but were within the German Confederation when the lyrics were written. However, due to Germany's history in the first half of the twentieth century, the first verse is often criticized for having an imperialistic tone. Hoffmann von Fallersleben also intended for the lyrics to be used as a drinking song, and the second verse includes mentions of German women, wine, and music. Only the third verse, which calls for unity, justice, and freedom, has been used in Germany since the end of the Second World War.
The English hymn "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken" is sung to the tune of Deutschlandlied, as is the alma mater of Columbia University, "Stand Columbia."
The image in the video is a photograph of crowds at the Reichstag building on October 3, 1990.
Lyrics:
Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
Brüderlich zusammenhält;
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt:
Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt!
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang
Sollen in der Welt behalten
Ihren alten schönen Klang,
Uns zu edler Tat begeistern
Unser ganzes Leben lang:
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
Blüh im Glanze dieses Glückes,
Blühe, deutsches Vaterland!
Original lyrics:
Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Lange lebe Franz der Kaiser,
In des Glückes hellstem Glanz!
Ihm erblühen Lorbeerreiser,
Wo er geht, zum Ehrenkranz!
Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Later Austrian lyrics:
Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze
unsern Kaiser, unser Land!
Mächtig durch des Glaubens Stütze
führ' Er uns mit weiser Hand!
Lasst uns Seiner Väter Krone
schirmen wider jeden Feind;
Innig bleibt mit Habsburgs Throne
Österreichs Geschick vereint.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics of the anthem are a poem titled "Defence of Fort McHenry," written by Francis Scott Key after the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the Royal Navy. The anthem uses the tune of the British song "To Anacreon in Heaven," composed by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. "The Star-Spangled Banner" was adopted as the national anthem of the United States on March 3, 1931, under President Herbert Hoover. The anthem has four verses, though only the first verse is commonly sung.
Lyrics:
O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the Rockets' red glare, the Bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our Flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled Banner yet wave,
O'er the Land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream,
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation,
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land,
Praise the Power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto—"In God is our Trust;"
And the star-spangled Banner in triumph shall wave,
O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
Lyrics of "To Anacreon in Heaven"
1
To Anacreon in Heav'n, where he sat in full Glee,
A few Sons of Harmony sent a Petition,
That he their Inspirer and Patron would be;
When this answer arriv'd from the Jolly Old Grecian
"Voice, Fiddle, and Flute,
"no longer be mute,
"I'll lend you my Name and inspire you to boot,
"And, besides I'll instruct you, like me, to intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
2
The news through Olympus immediately flew;
When Old Thunder pretended to give himself Airs.
"If these Mortals are suffer'd their Scheme to persue,
"The Devil a Goddess will stay above Stairs.
"Hark! already they cry,
"In transports of Joy,
"Away to the Sons of Anacreon we'll fly,
"And there, with good Fellows, we'll learn to intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.
3
"The Yellow-Hair'd God and his nine fusty Maids,
"From Helicon's banks will incontinent flee,
"Idalia will boast but of tenantless Shades,
"And the bi-forked Hill a mere Desart will be
"My Thunder no fear on't,
"Shall soon do it's Errand,
"And dam'me! I'll swinge the Ringleaders, I warrant.
"I'll trim the young Dogs, for thus daring to twine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
4
Apollo rose up, and said, "Pry'thee ne'er quarrel,
"Good King of the Gods, with my Vot'ries below:
"Your Thunder is useless"—then shewing his Laurel,
Cry'd "Sic evitabile fulmen, you know!
"Then over each head
"My Laurels I'll spread;
"So my Sons from your Crackers no Mischief shall dread,
"Whilst snug in their Club-Room, they jovially twine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
5
Next Momus got up with his risible Phiz,
And swore with Apollo he'd chearfully join—
"The full Tide of Harmony still shall be his,
"But the Song, and the Catch, and the Laugh shall be mine.
"Then, Jove, be not jealous
"Of these honest fellows."
Cry'd Jove, "We relent, since the Truth you now tell us;
"And swear by Old Styx, that they long shall intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
6
Ye Sons of Anacreon, then join Hand in Hand;
Preserve Unanimity, Friendship, and Love!
'Tis your's to support what's so happily plann'd;
You've the sanction of Gods, and the Fiat of Jove.
While thus we agree,
Our Toast let it be.
May our Club flourish happy, united, and free!
And long may the Sons of Anacreon intwine
The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

The picture shown in the video is a painting called "Sister of Mercy," by Marat Samsonov (1925-2013).
Lyrics, transliteration, and translation below:
Lyrics:
English Translation:
Once a summer, at dawn,
I glanced at the next garden.
There a swarthy woman, a Moldovan
was picking grapes.
I blushed, I grew pale,
I suddenly wanted to say
"Let's go greet summer dawns
over the river!"
Chorus × 2:
The maple all curly and green, its leaves as if carved!
I'm in love and abashed in front of you.
The maple is green and curly,
and curly and carved!
But the swarthy woman, the Moldovan
Said in mood:
"We Moldovan partisans
are forming a squad.
Early the partisans
left their homes.
The road awaits you,
to join them in the dense forest."
Chorus × 2:
The maple all curly and green, its leaves as if carved!
Here, under the maple, we will part.
The maple is green and curly,
and all curly and carved!
Then the swarthy, the Moldovan
took the path into the forest.
I was hurt that she left me
without inviting accompany
About the swarthy, the Moldovan
I thought often in the nights …
Then in the forest, of a sudden,
I found my swarthy one in the ranks!
Chorus × 2:
The maple is curly and green, its leaves as if carved!
Hello, my dear, my darling!
The maple is green and curly,
all curly and carved!
Latin Transliteration:
Kak-to letom, na rassvete,

— Stanem nad rekoju
Zor'ki letnije vstrečat'!
Pripev × 2:
Raskudrjavyj kljon zeljonyj – list reznoj.
Ja vljubljonnyj i smuščjonnyj pred toboj.
Kljon zeljonyj, da kljon kudrjavyj,
Da raskudrjavyj, reznoj!
A smugljanka-moldavanka
Otvečala parnju v lad:
— Partizanskij, moldavanskij
Sobirajem my otrjad.
Nynče rano partizany
Dom pokinuli rodnoj.
ždjot tebja doroga
K partizanam v les gustoj.
Pripev × 2:

O smugljanke-moldavanke
Často dumal po nočam ...
Vdrug svoju smugljanku
Ja v otrjade povstrečal!
Pripev × 2:
Raskudrjavyj kljon zeljonyj – list reznoj.
Zdravstvuj, paren', moj horošij, moj rodnoj!
Kljon zeljonyj, da kljon kudrjavyj,
Da raskudrjavyj, reznoj!

The Pontifical Anthem was composed in 1869 by French composer Charles Gounod (1818-1893). It was adopted as the papal anthem in 1949 by Pope Pius XII, with Italian lyrics by organist Antonio Allegra (1905-1969).
Latin lyrics were written in 1991 by Raffaello Lavagna of Savona (1918-2015). The more common Latin lyrics differ from those written by Raffaello Lavagna; they are seemingly unattributed. The flag of the Vatican City is pictured in the video. Though it is often depicted as a square, there are no official dimensions for the flag.

The anthem was composed by Hanns Eisler (1898-1962), an Austrian composer who fought in a Hungarian regiment during the Great War. "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" was the national anthem of East Germany (the German Democratic Republic) from 1949 until 1990. When German reunification occurred, the East German anthem was relinquished and "Deutschlandlied" became the national anthem of unified Germany.
Lyrics:
I
Auferstanden aus Ruinen
und der Zukunft zugewandt,
laßt uns Dir zum Guten dienen,
Deutschland, einig Vaterland.
Alte Not gilt es zu zwingen,
und wir zwingen sie vereint,
denn es muß uns doch gelingen,
daß die Sonne schön wie nie
𝄆 Über Deutschland scheint. 𝄇
II
Glück und Friede sei beschieden
Deutschland, unserm Vaterland.
Alle Welt sehnt sich nach Frieden,
reicht den Völkern eure Hand.
Wenn wir brüderlich uns einen,
schlagen wir des Volkes Feind!
Laßt das Licht des Friedens scheinen,
daß nie eine Mutter mehr
𝄆 Ihren Sohn beweint. 𝄇
III
Laßt uns pflügen, laßt uns bauen,
lernt und schafft wie nie zuvor,
und der eignen Kraft vertrauend,
steigt ein frei Geschlecht empor.
Deutsche Jugend, bestes Streben,
unsres Volks in dir vereint,
wirst du Deutschlands neues Leben.
Und die Sonne schön wie nie
𝄆 Über Deutschland scheint. 𝄇
English Translation:
I
Risen from the ruins
and turned toward the future,
Let us serve you for the common good,
Germany, united Fatherland.
Our task is to overcome old distress,
and we shall overcome it together,
and we shall surely succeed,
so that the sun, more beautifully than ever before,
𝄆 Shines over Germany. 𝄇
II
May happiness and peace be granted
to Germany, our Fatherland.
The whole world longs for peace,
extend your hand to all peoples.
If we unite fraternally,
we will defeat the enemy of the People.
Let the light of peace shine,
so that a mother never again
𝄆 Mourns her son. 𝄇
III
Let us plough, let us build,
learn and achieve as never before,
That, trusting in our own strength,
a free generation shall arise.
German youth, the best striving
of our people united in you,
Will revitalise Germany
And the sun, more beautifully than ever before
𝄆 Shines over Germany. 𝄇

"We Are the Army of the People" was composed by Georgi Movsesyan (1945-2011) with lyrics by Robert Rozhdestvensky (1932-1994). The song was created in 1975 for the 30th anniversary of the Allied victory in World War II.
The image in the video is a photograph of the center of Stalingrad following the German retreat from the city.
Lyrics:
I.
III.
English Translation:
I.
We are standing on duty
In platoons and by company
Immortal, like fire
Impassive, like granite.
We are the army of the country.
We are the army of the people.
Our history preserves a great, heroic deed
Chorus:
The banner is reddening for a reason.
The country depends on us for a reason.
We remember the sacred words “Behind us is Moscow!”
From the time of Borodino
II.
Our fathers presented powerful weapons to us.
We were under an oath of allegiance to the homeland
And a unique duty was given to us in life:
Shield the Earth's future from death
Chorus
III.
It is not necessary to intimidate us or boast arrogantly.
It is not worth threatening us and playing with fire again.
After all, if the enemy dares to test our strength
We will make him lose his liking for testing forever
Chorus
Latin Transliteration:

Hello! This is a piano instrumental of the American Civil War song "Marching Through Georgia."
Discord: discord.com/invite/SGMHeZ7
Instagram: instagram.com/forterepublic
"Marching Through Georgia" was written in 1865 by American songwriter and composer Henry Clay Work (1832-1834). It is written from the perspective of a Union soldier who was part of Sherman's March to the Sea, a campaign conducted through Georgia by General William Tecumseh Sherman. As a side note, the famous M4 Sherman tank is named after General Sherman.
"Marching Through Georgia" quickly became popular upon its release and remained popular after the end of the Civil War, becoming a symbol of the state of Georgia. General Sherman became annoyed with the song after hearing it repeatedly at every event he attended. The tune was also adopted as marching music by the Japanese and British.
Lyrics:
- Most commonly, the first, third, and fifth verses are sung.
I.
Bring the good old bugle, boys, we’ll sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it, fifty thousand strong
While we were marching through Georgia.
Chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The flag that makes you free!
So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea
While we were marching through Georgia.
II
How the people shouted when they heard the joyful sound
How the turkeys gobbled which our commissary found
How the sweet potatoes even started from the ground
While we were marching through Georgia.
Chorus
III
There were Union men who wept with joyful tears,
When they saw the honored flag they had not seen for years;
Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers,
While we were marching through Georgia.
Chorus
IV
“Sherman’s dashing Yankee boys will never reach the coast!”
So the saucy rebels said and ’twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Georgia.
Chorus
V
So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
Sixty miles in latitude, three hundred to the main;
Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Georgia.

"Ще не вмерла України і слава, і воля" (Shche ne vmerla Ukrainy i slava, i volia) is the state anthem of Ukraine. It was formerly the national anthem of the Ukrainian People's Republic, the West Ukrainian People's Republic, and Carpatho-Ukraine. Following Ukraine's secession from the Soviet Union, the song was officially adopted as Ukraine's national anthem in 1992.
The current lyrics to the anthem are a modified version of the first stanza of a patriotic poem written in 1862 by Ukrainian poet Pavlo Chubynsky. Ukrainian composer Mykhailo Verbytsky composed the musical setting for Chubynksy's text in 1863.
Official Lyrics:
Transliteration:
Shche ne vmerla Ukrayina, ni slava, ni volya,20
Zhynut' nashi vorozhen'ky, yak rosa na sontsi,
Zapanuyem i my, brattia, u svoyiy storontsi.
𝄆 Dushu y tilo my polozhym za nashu svobodu,
I pokazhem, shcho my, brattia, kozats'koho rodu. 𝄇
English Translation:
The glory of Ukraine has not yet perished, nor the will.
Still upon us, young brothers, fate shall smile.
Our enemies shall vanish, like dew in the sun.
We too shall rule, brothers, our country.
𝄆 Soul and body shall we lay down for our freedom,
And we will show, brothers, that we are of the Cossack nation! 𝄇
I have made national anthems for a few of these nations and plan on making more anthems for the rest.

"Die Wacht am Rhein" is a German patriotic song popular during the Franco-Prussian War and both World Wars. Its lyrics were written as a poem by Max Schneckenburger during the Rhine Crisis of 1840, which stoked fears of French expansionism. The musical setting to the poem was composed by Karl Wilhelm in 1854. Though the song calls for the defense of the Rhine, the fighting in the aforementioned wars that followed took place instead in France, to the west of the Rhine.
"Die Wacht Am Rhein" has been adapted for use as an alma mater for several institutions, most notably "Bright College Years," the alma mater of Yale University since 1881. During the Great War, the use of a German tune was questioned, and the Yale College Council proposed a ban on the song. Most alumni clubs voted in favor of keeping it, and it has since remained as the university's alma mater.
The image shown in the video is a painting of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Lyrics of both the original song and the Yale University alma mater are provided below.
Lyrics
Es braust ein Ruf wie Donnerhall,
wie Schwertgeklirr und Wogenprall:
Zum Rhein, zum Rhein, zum deutschen Rhein,
wer will des Stromes Hüter sein?
Refrain:
und aller Augen blitzen hell;
der Deutsche, bieder, fromm und stark,
beschützt die heil'ge Landesmark.
Refrain
Er blickt hinauf in Himmelsau'n,
wo Heldenväter niederschau'n,
und schwört mit stolzer Kampfeslust:
Du Rhein bleibst deutsch wie meine Brust!
Refrain
Solang ein Tropfen Blut noch glüht,
noch eine Faust den Degen zieht,
und noch ein Arm die Büchse spannt,
betritt kein Feind hier deinen Strand!
Refrain
Und ob mein Herz im Tode bricht,
wirst du doch drum ein Welscher nicht.
Reich, wie an Wasser deine Flut,
ist Deutschland ja an Heldenblut!
Refrain
Der Schwur erschallt, die Woge rinnt
die Fahnen flattern hoch im Wind:
Am Rhein, am Rhein, am deutschen Rhein
wir alle wollen Hüter sein.
Refrain
Yale Alma Mater
Bright College years, with pleasure rife,
The shortest, gladdest years of life;
How swiftly are ye gliding by!
Oh, why doth time so quickly fly?
The seasons come, the seasons go,
The earth is green or white with snow,
But time and change shall naught avail
To break the friendships formed at Yale.
In after years, should troubles rise
To cloud the blue of sunny skies,
How bright will seem, through mem’ry’s haze
Those happy, golden, bygone days!
Oh, let us strive that ever we
May let these words our watch-cry be,
Where’er upon life’s sea we sail:
“For God, for Country and for Yale!”
English Lyrics:
The cry resounds like thunder's peal,
Like crashing waves and clang of steel:
The Rhine, the Rhine, our German Rhine,
Who will defend our stream, divine?
Chorus:
Dear fatherland, no fear be thine,
Dear fatherland, no fear be thine,
Firm stands the Watch along, along the Rhine!
Firm stands the Watch along, along the Rhine!
They stand, a hundred thousand strong,
Quick to avenge their country's wrong,
With filial love their bosoms swell
They shall guard the sacred landmark well.
Chorus
He casts his eyes to heaven's blue,
From where past heroes hold the view,
And swears pugnaciously the oath,
You Rhine and I, stay German, both.
Chorus
While still remains one breath of life,
While still one fist can draw a knife,
One gun still fired with one hand,
No foe will stand on this Rhine sand.
Chorus
If my heart ne'er survives this stand,
You'll never fall in foreign hand,
Much, as your waters with no end,
Have we our heroes' blood to spend.
Chorus
The oath resounds, on rolls the wave,
The banners fly high, proud, and brave,
The Rhine, the Rhine, the German Rhine
We all shall stand to hold the line!
Italian Lyrics:
Sopra l’Alpe d’Oulx, ai venti,
sta l’Alpino in sentinella:
come scroscio di torrenti,
come rombo di procella,
giunge un grido “ Al Reno, al Reno! „
Fratel mio, tu veglia al Reno;
io sull’Alpe itala sto.
Refrain:

This song is intended to be a folk song from the fictional country of Primistan.
Pictured in the video is the coat of arms of the East Primisian People’s Republic (EPPR). The EPPR arose in East Primistan after a coup relegated the old government to the West and established a military junta in central Primistan.
In the background in the video is the painting “Winter Landscape with Figures and a Dog on a Track, Cottages Beyond,” by flemish painter Jacques d’Artois (1613-1686).

The “Battle Cry of Freedom” was a song about Unionism and abolitionism written in 1862 by George Frederick Root (1820-1895). It became incredibly popular among Union soldiers, and the song was adapted into a “Southron’s Battle Cry of Freedom” in the South. A modified version of the song was also used as a campaign song for Abraham Lincoln’s reelection campaign in 1864.
The image in the video is “The Twentieth Maine,” painted by Dominic D’Andrea.
Lyrics:
Oh we'll rally round the flag, boys,
We'll rally once again,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
We will rally from the hill-side,
We will gather from the plain,
Shouting the battle-cry of freedom.
(Chorus)
The Union forever! Hurrah, boys, hurrah!
Down with the Traitors, up with the Stars;
While we rally round the flag, boys,
Rally once again,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom!
We are springing to the call
Of our brothers gone before,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
And we'll fill the vacant ranks
With a million freemen more,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
(Chorus)
We will welcome to our number
The loyal, true and brave,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
And although he may be poor,
He shall never be a slave,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom!
(Chorus)
So we're springing to the call
From the East and from the West,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
And we'll hurl the Rebel crew
From the land we love the best,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
(Chorus)
We are marching to the field, boys,
Going to the fight,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
And we'll bear the glorious Stars
Of the Union and the Right,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
(Chorus)
We'll meet the Rebel host, boys,
With fearless hearts and true,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
And we'll show what Uncle Sam
Has for loyal men to do,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
(Chorus)
If we fail amid the fray, boys,
We will face them to the last,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
And our comrades brave shall hear us,
As we are rushing past,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
(Chorus)
Yes, for Liberty and Union,
We are springing to the fight,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom ;
And the victory shall be ours,
Forever rising in our might,
Shouting the battle-cry of Freedom.
(Chorus)
1864 Lincoln Campaign Song:
For Lincoln and Johnson, hurrah, boys, hurrah!
Down with the rebellion and on with the war,
While we rally round the cause, boys, we'll rally in our might,
Singing the holy cause of freemen.
Southron’s Battle Cry of Freedom:
Our flag is proudly floating on the land and on the main,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
Beneath it oft we've conquered, and we'll conquer oft again!
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
(Chorus)
Our Dixie forever! She's never at a loss!
Down with the eagle and up with the cross
While we rally 'round the Bonnie flag, we'll rally once again,
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
Our gallant boys have marched to the rolling of the drums.
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
And the leaders in charge cry out, "Come, boys, come!"
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
(Chorus)
They have laid down their lives on the bloody battle field.
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
Their motto is resistance – "To the tyrants never yield!"
Shout, shout the battle cry of Freedom!
(Chorus)
While our boys have responded and to the fields have gone!
Shout, shout the battle cry of freedom!
Our noble women also have aided them at home!
Shout, shout the battle cry of freedom!
(Chorus)

The lyrics are from a poem by an unknown writer in the Heian period (794-1185). A melody for the anthem was composed in 1869 by John William Fenton, an Irish musician who led a Japanese military band in the early Meiji period. Fenton’s melody was unpopular, and the current melody was chosen in 1880.
“Kimigayo” served as the national anthem of the Japanese Empire from 1888 to 1945. During the allied occupation of Japan, there was no official anthem of Japan, but “Kimigayo” remained in use as there was no effort to restrict it. In 1999, “Kimigayo” became the official national anthem of Japan again with the passing of The “Act on National Flag and Anthem” (国旗及び国歌に関する法律), which also ratified the national flag of Japanese.
Lyrics, translation, and transliteration:
Lyrics:

Transliteration:

Koke no musu made
English Translation:
May your reign
Continue for a thousand, eight thousand generations,
Until the tiny pebbles
Grow into massive boulders
Lush with moss
Poetic English Translation:
Thousands of years of happy reign be thine;
Rule on, my lord, until what are pebbles now
By ages united to mighty rocks shall grow
Whose venerable sides the moss doth line.

“Hej Slaveni” (Hey, Slavs) is a pan-slavic anthem popular int he 19th and 20th centuries. Its lyrics originate from an 1834 poem by Slovak writer Samo Tomášik. It uses the tune of the current Polish national anthem, Dabrowski’s Mazurka (Mazurka Dabrowskiego), with some variations.
As a pan-slavic anthem, “Hey, Slavs” became the national anthem of the First Slovak Republic, Yugoslavia, and Serbia and Montenegro.
Before the Second World War, Yugoslavia was a monarchy, and the Yugoslav anthem at the time included mentions of the king. When Yugoslavia fell to the Axis powers, Josip Tito's anti-royalist resistance chose not to use the anthem of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, instead adopting “Hey, Slavs.” This song became the de facto national anthem of the provisional Democratic Federal Yugoslavia during its existence from 1943 to 1945.
Following this period, it remained in use as the unofficial anthem of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFR Yugoslavia), as the kingdom’s anthem had been officially discarded and there was no official replacement for it. A 1977 law officially named “Hey, Slavs” a temporary state anthem until another piece was chosen, but no new anthem was ever adopted. After the break-up of SFR Yugoslavia, the new Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, consisting of Serbia and Montenegro, continued to use this anthem from 1992 until its dissolution in 2006 (FR Yugoslavia became the union state of Serbia and Montenegro in 2003, though it was still commonly called Yugoslavia).
After the final dissolution of Yugoslavia, “Hey Slavs” has been mistakenly played at sporting events involving Serbian teams.
The image in the video is of Yugoslav team at the 1980 Winter Olympics, flanked by the Soviet and American teams.

The song is about a young man who joins the infantry and fights the Ottomans in Hercegovina after his girlfriend leaves him for someone else. It was written around the time of the Austro-Hungarian campaign in Ottoman Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1878. The campaign resulted in Austro-Hungarian rule over the province. Due to the conflict, some of the verses in the song cast Ottomans in a negative light. Before the end of the Great War, the Czech lands were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Pictured in the video is Franz Joseph I (1830-1916), the Austrian Emperor at the time of the 1878 campaign.
Lyrics:
Tu musela vybojovat infanterie.
Infanteria to je láska má.
Ta musela bojovati za císaře pána, ach jo
Ta musela bojovati za císaře pána.
Za císaře pána a jeho rodinu.
Museli jsme vybojovat Hercegovinu, ach jo
Museli jsme vybojovat Hercegovinu.
Hercegovina je lautr rovina.
Tu musela vybojovat infanteria, ach jo
tu musela vybojovat infanteria.

English Translation:
I walked through the dark grove, I walked through the valley.
I met a hunter there and with him his sweetheart.
My love, it's amen, the end of my love.
Now I have to enlist in the infantry.
Dalmatia itself is a rock.
The infantry had to fight here.
Infantry is my love.
She had to fight for the emperor.
For the lord emperor and his family.
We had to conquer Herzegovina.
Herzegovina is a lautr plain,
the infantry had to fight here.
Up on the hillside the schnellzug is speeding,
and the Mohammedans are hidden on the side.
And those Turks are terrible swine,
The lord emperor does not love them in his country.
A young lad composed this song,
who joined the infantry through his girlfriend
----------------------------------------
Slightly different lyrics:
museli jsme vybojovat Hercegovinu
Hercegovina, lautr rovina,
tu musela vybojovat infanteria
Infanteria mnoho zkusila,
----------------------------------------
My attempt at English poetic version:
I walked along the grove, the rustling leaves above
And there I saw a hunter holding in his arms my love, ach jo,
And there I saw a hunter holding in his arms my love
My love has torn me apart, my heart is cold and grey
So now I’ll join the infantry, I will enlist today, ach jo,
So now I’ll join the infantry, I will enlist today
The infantry is my pride, for the emperor it stands
So Herzegovina we conquered at our lord’s command, ach jo,
So Herzegovina we conquered at our lord’s command
Herzegovina, the plains and the hills
The infantry was fighting there until the blood was spilled, ach jo,
The infantry was fighting there until the blood was spilled
A train speeds through the plains, it runs across the hills
And there a thousand turks are hiding in the hillside, still, ach jo,
And there a thousand turks are hiding in the hillside, still
The ottomans are swine, they’re fat, they're shaped like balls
The emperor, he wants them not inside his country at all, ach jo,
The emperor, he wants them not inside his country at all
A young lad wrote this song, his heart was cold and grey
His sweetheart left him so he joined the army right away, ach jo,
His sweetheart left him so he joined the army right away

Hello! This is a piano instrumental of “Just Before the Battle, Mother.” It’s one of my favorite American Civil War songs!

“Just Before the Battle, Mother” was an American Civil War era song that was popular in the Union Army. It was written by romantic American composer George Frederick Root (1820-1895), who also wrote famous songs such as “The Battle Cry of Freedom.” George Root was named after George Frideric Handel.
“Just Before the Battle, Mother” may have also been somewhat popular during the Great War. Outside of the United States, the song became popular among members of the Primrose League in England, and it was commonly performed in Canada on Victoria Day in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The image shown in the video is a painting titled “The Last Command,” by American artist Larry Selman.
Lyrics:
Just before the battle, mother,
I am thinking most of you,
While upon the field we're watching
With the enemy in view.
Comrades brave are 'round me lying,
Filled with thoughts of home and God
For well they know that on the morrow,
Some will sleep beneath the sod.
CHORUS:
Farewell, mother, you may never
Press me to your heart again,
But, oh, you'll not forget me, mother,
If I'm numbered with the slain.
Oh, I long to see you, mother,
And the loving ones at home,
But I'll never leave our banner,
Till in honor I can come.
Tell the traitors all around you
That their cruel words we know,
In every battle kill our soldiers
By the help they give the foe.
CHORUS:
Farewell, mother, you may never
Press me to your heart again,
But, oh, you'll not forget me, mother,
If I'm numbered with the slain.
Hark! I hear the bugles sounding,
'Tis the signal for the fight,
Now, may God protect us, mother,
As He ever does the right.
Hear the "Battle-Cry of Freedom,"
How it swells upon the air,
Oh, yes, we'll rally 'round the standard,
Or we'll perish nobly there.
CHORUS:
Farewell, mother, you may never
Press me to your heart again,
But, oh, you'll not forget me, mother,
If I'm numbered with the slain.

"God Save the Tsar" (Боже, Царя храни) was the national anthem of the Russian Empire from 1833 until its collapse in 1917. The song was composed by violinist Alexei Lvov, with lyrics by poet Vasily Zhukovsky.
Prior to the adoption of "God Save the Tsar," the national anthem of the empire was "The Prayer of the Russians," set to the tune of "God Save the King." A number of monarchies used this tune at the time, including the British, German, and Russian empires. Tsar Nicholas I ordered Lvov to compose a new anthem for the empire in 1833, prompting Lvov to compose "God Save the Tsar."

“Marcia Reale d’Ordinanza” was composed by Giuseppe Gazette in 1831 as both the Sardinian national anthem and the royal anthem of the House of Savoy. It was the national anthem of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1943, when Umberto II replaced it with the patriotic song “La Leggenda del Piave.” “Marcia Reale d’Ordinanza” was reinstated in 1944 when the allies captured Rome. It remained the national anthem of Italy until the 1946 Italian institutional referendum, after which the royal march was replaced with the modern Italian anthem, “Il Canto degli Italiani” (Inno di Mameli).
The picture in the video is a painting titled “Ingresso di Vittorio Emanuele II a Torino” (Entry of Vittorio Emanuele II into Turin), by painter Carlo Bossoli (1815-1884).
Lyrics:
Con esso i canti echeggiano
Rullano i tamburi le trombe squillano squillano
Cantici di gloria eleviamo con fervor
Viva l'Italia, l'Italia evviva ! Evviva il Re !
Viva L'Italia, evviva il Re ! Evviva il Re !!!
Viva l'Italia ! Viva il Re ! Viva il Re !
Tutta l'Italia spera in Te, crede in Te,
gloria di nostra stirpe, segnal di libertà,
di libertà, di libertà, di libertà.
Quando i nemici agognino
i nostri campi floridi
dove gli eroi pugnarono
nelle trascorse età,
finché duri l'amor di patria fervido,
finché regni la nostra civiltà.
L'Alpe d'Italia libera,
dal bel parlare angelico,
piede d'odiato barbaro
giammai calpesterà
finché duri l'amor di patria fervido,
finche regni la nostra civiltà.
Come falange unanime
i figli della Patria
si copriran di gloria
gridando libertà.
English Translation:
Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
Lower, oh Regiments, your Standards to our King!
Italy's Glory and Fortune Lie with Him
Savoy's Grand Soldiers, Cry Out "Long Live the King!"
Lower, oh Regiments, your Standards to our King!
Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
The trumpets joyously sound
Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
With this, the cries echo
The drums roll, the trumpets sound and sound again
Canticles of glory we fervently raise
Long Live Italy, Italy, Huzzah! Long Live the King!
Long Live Italy, Long Live the King! Long Live the King!
Long Live Italy, Long Live the King! Long Live the King!
All of Italy puts her faith in you, believes in you,
glory of our race, sign of freedom,
of freedom, of freedom, of freedom.
When the enemy comes seeking
our flourishing fields
where heroes fought
in the bygone ages
as long as our fervent patriotic love lasts
as long as our civilization reigns
The Italian Alps will be free,
angelic speech will reign,
the hated barbarian
will never set foot here
as long as our fervent patriotic love lasts
as long as our civilization reigns
As a single phalanx
the sons of the Fatherland
will cover themselves with glory
shouting "Freedom!”
Alternate Lyrics:
Viva il Re, viva il Re Imperator!
Iddio Ti salvi e assista ognor!
Viva il Re, viva il Re Imperator!
Del popol Tuo orgoglio e amor!
Te Legionari e Fanti
in Africa Oriental
cinsero del romano
simbolo imperial!
Di Savoia al grido
"sempre avanti"
Italia va!
Scese in Te da gli Avi tuoi
dei nostri Eroi - la virtù:
splende il capo tuo regal
d'un'immortal gioventù :
salde e forti ancor
con Te le sorti ognor
l'Italia nostra avrà!
Salve, Savoia, del gran Patto erede
che in Roma eterna Emanuel giurò!
Salve, Savoia, che l'ardita fede
della imperiale Italia incoronò!
Suon di gioia - è Savoia,
che fa tutto ardir:
suon di gloria - di vittoria
e d'avvenir!
Salve, Savoia, che l'ardita fede
della imperiale Italia incoronò!

Lyrics:
Tu musela vybojovat infanterie.
Infanteria to je láska má.
Ta musela bojovati za císaře pána, ach jo
Ta musela bojovati za císaře pána.
Za císaře pána a jeho rodinu.
Museli jsme vybojovat Hercegovinu, ach jo
Museli jsme vybojovat Hercegovinu.
Hercegovina je lautr rovina.
Tu musela vybojovat infanteria, ach jo
tu musela vybojovat infanteria.

museli jsme vybojovat Hercegovinu
Hercegovina, lautr rovina,
tu musela vybojovat infanteria, ach jo,
tu musela vybojovat infanteria
Infanteria mnoho zkusila,

----------------------------------------
My attempt at English poetic version:

Lyrics:
Allons enfants de la Patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé, (bis)
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats ?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes !
Refrain :
𝄆 Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons !
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons ! 𝄇
Que veut cette horde d'esclaves,
De traîtres, de rois conjurés ?
Pour qui ces ignobles entraves,
Ces fers dès longtemps préparés ? (bis)
Français, pour nous, ah ! quel outrage
Quels transports il doit exciter !
C'est nous qu'on ose méditer
De rendre à l'antique esclavage !
Refrain
Quoi ! des cohortes étrangères
Feraient la loi dans nos foyers !
Quoi ! Ces phalanges mercenaires
Terrasseraient nos fiers guerriers ! (bis)
Grand Dieu ! Par des mains enchaînées
Nos fronts sous le joug se ploieraient
De vils despotes deviendraient
Les maîtres de nos destinées !
Refrain
Tremblez, tyrans et vous perfides
L'opprobre de tous les partis,
Tremblez ! vos projets parricides
Vont enfin recevoir leurs prix ! (bis)
Tout est soldat pour vous combattre,
S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros,
La terre en produit de nouveaux,
Contre vous tout prêts à se battre !
Refrain
Français, en guerriers magnanimes,
Portez ou retenez vos coups !
Épargnez ces tristes victimes,
À regret s'armant contre nous. (bis)
Mais ces despotes sanguinaires,
Mais ces complices de Bouillé,
Tous ces tigres qui, sans pitié,
Déchirent le sein de leur mère !
Refrain
Amour sacré de la Patrie,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté, Liberté chérie,
Combats avec tes défenseurs ! (bis)
Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire
Accoure à tes mâles accents,
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire !
Refrain
Couplet des enfants:[c]
Nous entrerons dans la carrière
Quand nos aînés n'y seront plus,
Nous y trouverons leur poussière
Et la trace de leurs vertus (bis)
Bien moins jaloux de leur survivre
Que de partager leur cercueil,
Nous aurons le sublime orgueil
De les venger ou de les suivre.
Refrain
English Translation:
Arise, children of the Fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us stands tyranny
Her bloody standard has been raised, (repeated)
Do you hear, in the countryside,
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They come right into your arms
To tear the throats of your sons, your wives!
Refrain:
𝄆 To arms, citizens,
Form your battalions,
Let’s March, let’s march!
So that an impure
blood waters our furrows! 𝄇
What does this horde of slaves
Of traitors and invented kings want?
For whom have these vile chains
These irons, been long prepared? (repeated)
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
What furious action it must arouse!
It is for us they dare plan
A return to the old slavery!
Refrain
What! Foreign cohorts!
Would make the law in our homes!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would strike down our proud warriors! (repeated)
Great God! By chained hands
Our brows would yield under the yoke
Vile despots would themselves become
The masters of our destinies!
Refrain
Tremble, tyrants and you traitors
The shame of all parties,
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will finally receive their prize! (repeated)
Everyone is a soldier to combat you,
If they fall, our young heroes,
Will be produced anew from the ground,
Ready to fight against you!
Refrain
Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors,
Bear or hold back your blows!
Spare those sorry victims,
For regretfully arming against us (repeated)
But these bloodthirsty despots
These accomplices of Bouillé
All these tigers who, mercilessly,
Tear apart their mother's breast!
Refrain
Sacred love of the Fatherland,
Lead, support our avenging arms
Liberty, cherished Liberty
Fight with your defenders! (repeated)
Under our flags may victory
Hurry to your manly accents
So that your expiring enemies
See your triumph and our glory!
Refrain
Children's verse:
We shall enter the (military) career
When our elders are no longer there
There we shall find their dust
And the trace of their virtues (repeated)
Much less keen to survive them
Than to share their coffins
We shall have the sublime pride
To avenge or follow them.
Refrain

And the Rockets' red glare, the Bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our Flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled Banner yet wave,
O'er the Land of the free and the home of the brave?
1
To Anacreon in Heav'n, where he sat in full Glee,
A few Sons of Harmony sent a Petition,
That he their Inspirer and Patron would be;
When this answer arriv'd from the Jolly Old Grecian
"Voice, Fiddle, and Flute,
"no longer be mute,
"I'll lend you my Name and inspire you to boot,
"And, besides I'll instruct you, like me, to intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
2
The news through Olympus immediately flew;
When Old Thunder pretended to give himself Airs.
"If these Mortals are suffer'd their Scheme to persue,
"The Devil a Goddess will stay above Stairs.
"Hark! already they cry,
"In transports of Joy,
"Away to the Sons of Anacreon we'll fly,
"And there, with good Fellows, we'll learn to intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.
3
"The Yellow-Hair'd God and his nine fusty Maids,
"From Helicon's banks will incontinent flee,
"Idalia will boast but of tenantless Shades,
"And the bi-forked Hill a mere Desart will be
"My Thunder no fear on't,
"Shall soon do it's Errand,
"And dam'me! I'll swinge the Ringleaders, I warrant.
"I'll trim the young Dogs, for thus daring to twine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
4
Apollo rose up, and said, "Pry'thee ne'er quarrel,
"Good King of the Gods, with my Vot'ries below:
"Your Thunder is useless"—then shewing his Laurel,
Cry'd "Sic evitabile fulmen, you know!
"Then over each head
"My Laurels I'll spread;
Cry'd Jove, "We relent, since the Truth you now tell us;
"And swear by Old Styx, that they long shall intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."
6
Ye Sons of Anacreon, then join Hand in Hand;
Preserve Unanimity, Friendship, and Love!
'Tis your's to support what's so happily plann'd;
You've the sanction of Gods, and the Fiat of Jove.
While thus we agree,
Our Toast let it be.
May our Club flourish happy, united, and free!
And long may the Sons of Anacreon intwine
The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

Brüderlich zusammenhält;
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt:
Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt!
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang
Sollen in der Welt behalten
Ihren alten schönen Klang,
Uns zu edler Tat begeistern
Unser ganzes Leben lang:
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
Blüh im Glanze dieses Glückes,
Blühe, deutsches Vaterland!
Original lyrics:
Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Lange lebe Franz der Kaiser,
In des Glückes hellstem Glanz!
Ihm erblühen Lorbeerreiser,
Wo er geht, zum Ehrenkranz!
Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Later Austrian lyrics:
Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze
unsern Kaiser, unser Land!
Mächtig durch des Glaubens Stütze
führ' Er uns mit weiser Hand!
Lasst uns Seiner Väter Krone
schirmen wider jeden Feind;
Innig bleibt mit Habsburgs Throne
Österreichs Geschick vereint.

The Polish national anthem, "Poland is Not Yet Lost" (Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła), is also known as "Mazurek Dąbrowskiego" and the "Song of the Polish Legions in Italy" (Pieśń Legionów Polskich we Włoszech).
The original lyrics were written by Polish nobleman Jozef Wybicki in 1797 (the same year Haydn composed the Kaiserhymne). The modern official Polish lyrics differ from Wybicki's original lyrics. The music is an unattributed mazurka considered to be a folk tune. When the entente reconstituted Poland in 1918, "Mazurek Dąbrowskiego" became the de facto national anthem of the Second Polish Republic. It was then officially adopted in 1927.
"Mazurek Dąbrowskiego" anthem is the musical basis for the Pan-Slavic anthem "Hej, Sloveni."

"The Red Army is the Strongest" is a popular song composed by Samuil Pokrass (1897-1939), with lyrics by Pavel Grigorev (1895-1961). It was written during the Russian Civil War as an anthem for the Red Army. The song is also known by its first line, "White Army, Black Baron" (Белая Армия, Чëрный Барон). "Black Baron" was a nickname for Baron Pyotr Wrangel, the commanding general of the White Army. Wrangel was known to wear black uniforms.
Prior to 1937, the song was published under various titles, including "From the Taiga to the British Seas" (От тайги до британских морей) and "Red Army" (Красная Армия). In Austria, the tune was used for the song "Die Arbeiter von Wien" (The Workers of Vienna). The tune was also used for a Yugoslav song called "Demokratska NATO Armija" (Democratic NATO Army). There are many other versions of the song, including a variant sung by communists in Weimar Germany.
Lyrics and translations below:

I

Refrain:
und aller Augen blitzen hell;
der Deutsche, bieder, fromm und stark,
beschützt die heil'ge Landesmark.
Refrain
Er blickt hinauf in Himmelsau'n,
wo Heldenväter niederschau'n,
und schwört mit stolzer Kampfeslust:
Du Rhein bleibst deutsch wie meine Brust!
Refrain
Solang ein Tropfen Blut noch glüht,
noch eine Faust den Degen zieht,
und noch ein Arm die Büchse spannt,
betritt kein Feind hier deinen Strand!
Refrain
Und ob mein Herz im Tode bricht,
wirst du doch drum ein Welscher nicht.
Reich, wie an Wasser deine Flut,
ist Deutschland ja an Heldenblut!
Refrain
Der Schwur erschallt, die Woge rinnt
die Fahnen flattern hoch im Wind:
Am Rhein, am Rhein, am deutschen Rhein
wir alle wollen Hüter sein.
Refrain
Yale Alma Mater
Bright College years, with pleasure rife,
The shortest, gladdest years of life;
How swiftly are ye gliding by!
Oh, why doth time so quickly fly?
The seasons come, the seasons go,
The earth is green or white with snow,
But time and change shall naught avail
To break the friendships formed at Yale.
In after years, should troubles rise
To cloud the blue of sunny skies,
How bright will seem, through mem’ry’s haze
Those happy, golden, bygone days!
Oh, let us strive that ever we
May let these words our watch-cry be,
Where’er upon life’s sea we sail:
“For God, for Country and for Yale!”
English Lyrics:
The cry resounds like thunder's peal,
Like crashing waves and clang of steel:
The Rhine, the Rhine, our German Rhine,
Who will defend our stream, divine?
Chorus:
Dear fatherland, no fear be thine,
Dear fatherland, no fear be thine,
Firm stands the Watch along, along the Rhine!
Firm stands the Watch along, along the Rhine!
They stand, a hundred thousand strong,
Quick to avenge their country's wrong,
With filial love their bosoms swell
They shall guard the sacred landmark well.
Chorus
He casts his eyes to heaven's blue,
From where past heroes hold the view,
And swears pugnaciously the oath,
You Rhine and I, stay German, both.
Chorus
While still remains one breath of life,
While still one fist can draw a knife,
One gun still fired with one hand,
No foe will stand on this Rhine sand.
Chorus
If my heart ne'er survives this stand,
You'll never fall in foreign hand,
Much, as your waters with no end,
Have we our heroes' blood to spend.
Chorus
The oath resounds, on rolls the wave,
The banners fly high, proud, and brave,
The Rhine, the Rhine, the German Rhine
We all shall stand to hold the line!
Italian Lyrics:
Sopra l’Alpe d’Oulx, ai venti,
sta l’Alpino in sentinella:
come scroscio di torrenti,
come rombo di procella,
giunge un grido “ Al Reno, al Reno! „
Fratel mio, tu veglia al Reno;
io sull’Alpe itala sto.
Refrain:
Refrain

Lyrics:
Oh, freedom, Oh, freedom
Oh freedom over me
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free
No more running, no more running
No more running over me
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free
No more crying, no more crying
No more crying over me
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free
There’ll be singing, there’ll be singing
There’ll be singing over me
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free
There’ll be shouting, there’ll be shouting
There’ll be shouting over me
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free
Oh, freedom, Oh, freedom
Oh freedom over me
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free

The piece was composed by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka in 1833 and was originally entitled “Motif de chant national.” In November of 1990, the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR approved the song as the national anthem of the RSFSR. After December of 1991, the piece continued to be used as the anthem of the Russian Federation until 2000. The anthem had no official lyrics; unofficial lyrics were proposed but were never adopted.
The image in the video is a photo of people holding a large tricolor in the Red Square after the failed communist hardliner coup in August of 1991.
Unofficial lyrics:
English Translation:
Be glorious, be glorious, Mother Russia!
You passed through the centuries and the thunderstorms
And the sun shines above you
And your destiny is bright.
Above the ancient Moscow Kremlin
Waves the banner with the two-headed eagle
And the sacred words resound:
Be glorious, Russia – my Fatherland!
The song is also used with the following lyrics as an ode to Moscow:
Здравствуй, славная столица,
Сердце Родины - Москва!
Вся страна тобой гордится,
Городов родных глава.
Русь великую сплотила
Ты вокруг твердынь Кремля,
И окрепла наша сила
Да прославилась земля.
Ты как воин отражала
Каждый вражеский набег.
Ты Отчизну отстояла
от захватчиков навек!
И когда народ встречает
Дни побед и торжества,
Взор и сердце обращает
Он всегда к тебе, Москва!

"The Internationale" (French: "L'Internationale") has been the standard anthem of communist and socialist movements since the late 1800s, serving as the national anthem of the Soviet Union until 1944. The melody was composed by Pierre De Geyter (1848-1932), and its adoption as the official anthem of the Second Internationale made it famous. The original lyrics were written in French, and it is among the most universally translated anthems in history.
The image shown in the video is a photograph of the 27th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
This instrumental is not an endorsement of any political ideology and is not to be interpreted as such.
French, English, Russian, German, Chinese, and Korean lyrics below:
Original French Lyrics:
Debout, les damnés de la terre
Debout, les forçats de la faim
La raison tonne en son cratère
C'est l'éruption de la fin
Du passé faisons table rase
Foule esclave, debout, debout
Le monde va changer de base
Nous ne sommes rien, soyons tout
C'est la lutte finale
Groupons-nous, et demain
L'Internationale
Sera le genre humain.
English Lyrics:
Arise, you prisoners of starvation!
Arise, you wretched of the earth!
For justice thunders condemnation.
A better world's in birth.
No more tradition's chains shall bind us.
Arise, you slaves, no more in thrall!
The earth shall rise on new foundations.
We have been naught, we shall be all.
'Tis the final conflict;
Let each stand in his place.
The international working class
Shall be the human race.
И решительный бой;

Good day! This is a piano instrumental of “The Bonnie Blue Flag,” an American Civil War song sung to the tune of “The Irish Jaunting Car.”
Discord: discord.com/invite/SGMHeZ7
I am making instrumentals of my 15 favorite Civil War songs (in no particular order) – this is number 10!
“The Bonnie Blue Flag” was a popular Southern marching song during the American Civil War. The title referred to the Bonnie Blue flag, a banner associated at different points in history with the Republic of Texas, the Republic of West Florida, and eventually the Southern states in the American Civil War.
The song’s melody was taken from “The Irish Jaunting Car,” an Irish folk song that was popular among the Irish diaspora in the United States. During the war, Union versions also emerged, such as the “Song of the Irish Volunteers” and other versions that described the flag of the United States instead of the Bonnie Blue flag.

"Let the Thunder of Victory Rumble!" (Гром победы, раздавайся!) was an unofficial Russian national anthem during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The piece is a polonaise composed by Osip Kozlovsky (1759-1831), a composer of Polish origin who became famous in Russia for his patriotic polonaises. Kozlovsky wrote most of his music for the Russian Imperial Court.
The lyrics to the anthem were written by Gavrila Derzhavin (1743-1816), a Russian statesman who was one of the country's most celebrated poets before Alexander Pushkin. The song commemorates the capture of the Ottoman fortress Izmail by the Russian general Alexander Suvorov, an event that effectively ended the Seventh Russo-Turkish War. The song's chorus praises Catherine the Great. A variation of the piece is quoted in Tchaikovsky's "The Queen of Spades" (Pique Dame).
The image in the video is a painting by Mikhail Matveevich Ivanov of the Russian imperial fleet in the Bosphorus Strait.
Lyrics, translation, and transliteration below:
Lyrics:

Translation:
Triumph's thunder louder, higher!
Russian pride is running high!
Russia's glory sparkles brighter!
We have humbled Muslim might.
Refrain:
Hail to you for this, oh Catherine!
Gentle mother to us all!
Brilliant Empress, gaze at visions,
And behold, a woman great:
In your thoughts and your decisions
As one soul we all partake.

The image shown in the video is a portion of the Racławice Panorama, a cycloramic painting by Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak depicting the Battle of Racławice, during the Kościuszko uprising.

Discord: discord.com/invite/SGMHeZ7
"When This Cruel War is Over" was written by Charles Carrol Sawyer, with music by Henry Tucker. The song was published in 1863 and was popular among both Union and Confederate soldiers, selling over a million copies during the war. References to the Union flag and Union uniforms in the song were altered in Southern versions.
The tune's popularity led to the emergence of alternate lyrics, such as "When Upon the Field of Glory" and "When This Cruel Draft is Over."
The image in the video is a painting titled "Angel of the Battlefield," by Mort Künstler. The painting depicts American nurse Clara Barton caring for wounded soldiers in Northern Virginia after the battle of Cedar Mountain in 1862. Barton became known as the "Angel of the Battlefield." She would go on to found the American Red Cross in 1881.
Lyrics:
I.
Dearest love, do you remember,
When we last did meet,
How you told me that you loved me,
Kneeling at my feet?
Oh! how proud you stood before me
In your suit of blue,
When you vow'd to me and country
Ever to be true.
Chorus:
Weeping, sad and lonely,
Hopes and fears how vain! Yet praying,
When the cruel war is over,
Praying that we meet again!
II.
When the summer breeze is sighing
Mournfully along;
Or when autumn leaves are falling,
Sadly breathes the song.
Oft in dreams I see thee lying
On the battle plain,
Lonely, wounded, even dying,
Calling, but in vain.
(Chorus)
III.
If amid the din of battle
Nobly you should fall,
Far away from those who love you,
None to hear you call
Who would whisper words of comfort,
Who would soothe your pain?
Ah! the many cruel fancies
Ever in my brain.
(Chorus)
IV.
But our country called you, darling,
Angels cheer your way;
While our nation's sons are fighting,
We can only pray.
Nobly strike for God and liberty,
Let all nations see
How we love the starry banner,
Emblem of the free.
(Chorus)

Lyrics:
Allons enfants de la Patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé, (bis)
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats ?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes !
Refrain :
𝄆 Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons !
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons ! 𝄇
Que veut cette horde d'esclaves,
De traîtres, de rois conjurés ?
Pour qui ces ignobles entraves,
Ces fers dès longtemps préparés ? (bis)
Français, pour nous, ah ! quel outrage
Quels transports il doit exciter !
C'est nous qu'on ose méditer
De rendre à l'antique esclavage !
Refrain
Quoi ! des cohortes étrangères
Feraient la loi dans nos foyers !
Quoi ! Ces phalanges mercenaires
Terrasseraient nos fiers guerriers ! (bis)
Grand Dieu ! Par des mains enchaînées
Nos fronts sous le joug se ploieraient
De vils despotes deviendraient
Les maîtres de nos destinées !
Refrain
Tremblez, tyrans et vous perfides
L'opprobre de tous les partis,
Tremblez ! vos projets parricides
Vont enfin recevoir leurs prix ! (bis)
Tout est soldat pour vous combattre,
S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros,
La terre en produit de nouveaux,
Contre vous tout prêts à se battre !
Refrain
Français, en guerriers magnanimes,
Portez ou retenez vos coups !
Épargnez ces tristes victimes,
À regret s'armant contre nous. (bis)
Mais ces despotes sanguinaires,
Mais ces complices de Bouillé,
Tous ces tigres qui, sans pitié,
Déchirent le sein de leur mère !
Refrain
Amour sacré de la Patrie,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté, Liberté chérie,
Combats avec tes défenseurs ! (bis)
Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire
Accoure à tes mâles accents,
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire !
Refrain
Couplet des enfants:[c]
Nous entrerons dans la carrière
Quand nos aînés n'y seront plus,
Nous y trouverons leur poussière
Et la trace de leurs vertus (bis)
Bien moins jaloux de leur survivre
Que de partager leur cercueil,
Nous aurons le sublime orgueil
De les venger ou de les suivre.
Refrain
English Translation:
Arise, children of the Fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us stands tyranny
Her bloody standard has been raised, (repeated)
Do you hear, in the countryside,
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They come right into your arms
To tear the throats of your sons, your wives!
Refrain:
𝄆 To arms, citizens,
Form your battalions,
Let’s March, let’s march!
So that an impure
blood waters our furrows! 𝄇
What does this horde of slaves
Of traitors and invented kings want?
For whom have these vile chains
These irons, been long prepared? (repeated)
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
What furious action it must arouse!
It is for us they dare plan
A return to the old slavery!
Refrain
What! Foreign cohorts!
Would make the law in our homes!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would strike down our proud warriors! (repeated)
Great God! By chained hands
Our brows would yield under the yoke
Vile despots would themselves become
The masters of our destinies!
Refrain
Tremble, tyrants and you traitors
The shame of all parties,
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will finally receive their prize! (repeated)
Everyone is a soldier to combat you,
If they fall, our young heroes,
Will be produced anew from the ground,
Ready to fight against you!
Refrain
Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors,
Bear or hold back your blows!
Spare those sorry victims,
For regretfully arming against us (repeated)
But these bloodthirsty despots
These accomplices of Bouillé
All these tigers who, mercilessly,
Tear apart their mother's breast!
Refrain
Sacred love of the Fatherland,
Lead, support our avenging arms
Liberty, cherished Liberty
Fight with your defenders! (repeated)
Under our flags may victory
Hurry to your manly accents
So that your expiring enemies
See your triumph and our glory!
Refrain
Children's verse:
We shall enter the (military) career
When our elders are no longer there
There we shall find their dust
And the trace of their virtues (repeated)
Much less keen to survive them
Than to share their coffins
We shall have the sublime pride
To avenge or follow them.
Refrain

The picture in the video is a painting titled “Il panorama di Torino dalla villa Barbaroux,” by Italian Painter Francesco Gamba (1818-1887).
Lyrics:
Con esso i canti echeggiano
Rullano i tamburi le trombe squillano squillano
Cantici di gloria eleviamo con fervor
Viva l'Italia, l'Italia evviva ! Evviva il Re !
Viva L'Italia, evviva il Re ! Evviva il Re !!!
Viva l'Italia ! Viva il Re ! Viva il Re !
Tutta l'Italia spera in Te, crede in Te,
gloria di nostra stirpe, segnal di libertà,
di libertà, di libertà, di libertà.
Quando i nemici agognino
i nostri campi floridi
dove gli eroi pugnarono
nelle trascorse età,
finché duri l'amor di patria fervido,
finché regni la nostra civiltà.
L'Alpe d'Italia libera,
dal bel parlare angelico,
piede d'odiato barbaro
giammai calpesterà
finché duri l'amor di patria fervido,
finche regni la nostra civiltà.
Come falange unanime
i figli della Patria
si copriran di gloria
gridando libertà.
English Translation:
Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
Lower, oh Regiments, your Standards to our King!
Italy's Glory and Fortune Lie with Him
Savoy's Grand Soldiers, Cry Out "Long Live the King!"
Lower, oh Regiments, your Standards to our King!
Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
The trumpets joyously sound
Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
With this, the cries echo
The drums roll, the trumpets sound and sound again
Canticles of glory we fervently raise
Long Live Italy, Italy, Huzzah! Long Live the King!
Long Live Italy, Long Live the King! Long Live the King!
Long Live Italy, Long Live the King! Long Live the King!
All of Italy puts her faith in you, believes in you,
glory of our race, sign of freedom,
of freedom, of freedom, of freedom.
When the enemy comes seeking
our flourishing fields
where heroes fought
in the bygone ages
as long as our fervent patriotic love lasts
as long as our civilization reigns
The Italian Alps will be free,
angelic speech will reign,
the hated barbarian
will never set foot here
as long as our fervent patriotic love lasts
as long as our civilization reigns
As a single phalanx
the sons of the Fatherland
will cover themselves with glory
shouting "Freedom!”
