The hotend of an FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printer is where the magic happens. It's the component responsible for melting the filament to create 3D prints. Here's a quick breakdown:
Structure: It typically consists of a nozzle, a heater block, a thermistor (temperature sensor), and a heat break.
Function: The filament is fed into the hotend, where it's heated in the heater block to a specific temperature. Once melted, it's extruded through the nozzle onto the print bed.
Materials: Hotends can handle various filaments like PLA, ABS, PETG, and more. The type of material determines the temperature setting.
Maintenance: To ensure optimal printing, it's vital to keep the hotend clean and occasionally replace parts as they wear out or get clogged.

Loft and Rails Function - Modelling a suction hose nozzle using Fusion 360
Here is a nice demo of how to model a suction hose in Fusion 360 using the Loft function with the Rails option. Properly used, this function offers the possibility of modeling organic shapes, which is particularly relevant for models that must have ergonomic quality. I think that is a nice topic for those out there that are interested in modelling and it´s also of use in the workshop, to create suction adapters for your machines.

Here is a short teaser for an upcoming video focusing on Fusion 360 CAD modelling and the loft function. I used Autodesk Fusion 360 for this little print, there is a free version available. Using the loft function gives you freedom to create irregular shaped or rounded design parts. Many CAD software programms come with a loft function or similar approaches.

GCode commands
Many GCode commands can be combined together to make the overall GCode more efficient and easier to read. Some examples of commonly combined GCode commands include:
• G00 and G01: These commands are used to move the cutting tool to a specific position. G00 is used for rapid movement (i.e. the tool moves as quickly as possible), while G01 is used for controlled movement (i.e. the tool moves at a specified feed rate). These two commands can be combined to make the tool move quickly to a rough position, and then move more slowly to a precise position.
• G17, G18, and G19: These commands are used to select the plane in which the machine will move. G17 selects the XY plane, G18 selects the XZ plane, and G19 selects the YZ plane. These commands can be combined to make the tool move in multiple planes.
• G90 and G91: These commands are used to switch between absolute and relative positioning. G90 sets the machine to absolute positioning, while G91 sets the machine to relative positioning. These commands can be combined to make the machine move relatively in one axis and absolutely in another axis.
• G0 and G1: These commands are used to move the cutting tool at a specific speed. G0 is used for rapid movement (i.e. the tool moves as quickly as possible), while G1 is used for controlled movement (i.e. the tool moves at a specified feed rate). These commands can be combined to make the tool move quickly to a rough position and then move more slowly to a precise position.
• G2 and G3: These commands are used to move the cutting tool along an arc. G2 is used for clockwise arcs, while G3 is used for counterclockwise arcs. These commands can be combined to make the tool move along both clockwise and counterclockwise arcs.
Here is a short teaser for an upcoming video.
This video is made for CNC beginners and the focus is on consumer CNC machines. Since the entry into CNC machining is quite difficult, I like to lift the curtain a bit and explain different aspects of CNC machining and explain topics like CNC parts, GRBL, GCode, CAM, CAD and more.
I present my personal CNC setup, modeling, and machining approach. This includes the setup and use of the different components, my modeling and machining process, and my selection of software and hardware tools.

In one of my previous videos, I showed the decision process and some of the options you can find in the CNC DIY section. I ended up choosing the Genmitsu 4030 CNC and also show the unboxing of the CNC. You can find the link to the video here. Today I'm going to go through the steps, following the Genmitsu manual. You can find the manual along with all the software resources that come with the machine on the Genmitsu support page. I include a link in the video description. This is not a manual, just a demonstration of how I did the assembly. Please read the manual that comes with the machine carefully and follow Genmitsu's instructions. Ok, let's start with the video.

in this video I show the preparation of some engraving jobs using FreeCad. For demonstration, I mill some text and a small svg graphic onto a workpiece using a Genmitsu 4030 CNC and compare two different router bits. The goal is to show you the basic workflow you can follow in your own projects and understand the different options in relation to the font type, for example, standard true type font and single line /or stroke fonts. We will have a look at the different working steps to prepare the job for CNC milling.
So much in advance, it didn't work right away, but in the end there are usually solutions for all problems. So let's get started.
I presented my personal CNC setup, modeling, and machining approach in some additional videos. This includes the setup and use of the different components, my modeling and machining process, and my selection of software and hardware tools.

Description: This video is about modeling a vaccum cleaner nozzle with Blender for 3D Printing. I show specific fast modeling techniques based on primitives and important modeling aspects for 3D printing. In addition, I would like to offer a recipe for a quick implementation. I show how to work with primitives in combination with other mesh modeling tools. In the other parts of the series I will use curve based modeling, primitives with Boolean operations or non-destructive modeling techniques based on Blender modifiers.

Description:
Today we are talking about another design method mesh modeling based on a primitive shape. Our goal is to create a furniture handle that is milled into the wood. In this video I will show you how I proceeded, from the first design in Blender, to 3D printing, to milling out a pocket for the finished part with my Makita router. We will go through the most important steps.
I can roughly determine the following steps:
-Preparation of the modeling environment
-Selecting and creating the basic 3D object or primitive shape that will be used for modeling.
-Model and modify the mesh geometry to create a new model with it.
-To save time, the Mirror Modifier can be used and for this the model must be cut in half beforehand.
-Finish the model to remove holes or errors in the geometry.
-Preparation of the model for 3D printing
-Export of the model into a 3D surface model of the model shell in the form of an STL file
-Import the model into a slicer program, e.g. Cura
-slicing the model and saving it as a Gcode file with the control information for the 3D printer
and it concludes with the steps
- 3D printing and
- Use of the finished 3D printed object.

What is this? A Blender 3D made tool for the pool - fun project - design study for 3D printing
I want to show with this video some advantages of Blender when it comes to designing 3d objects. With Blender we have the possibility to combine the artistic approach and CAD working techniques. Today's episode is about 3D design and modeling with Blender. Despite the rather playful example, there are some requirements that need to be considered. The model should be able to be 3D printed, it should be able to be broken down into parts for easy printing, and it should have round and flowing shapes that you can't hurt yourself on.

Description: This video is about modeling furniture handles with Blender for 3D printing. This video is the first part of a small series on this topic. In the course I will use different modeling techniques and address important aspects for 3D printing. In addition, I would like to offer a recipe for a quick implementation. In the first part we will work with a modeling based on primitives and mesh modeling. In the other parts of the series I will use curve based modeling, primitives with Boolean operations or non-destructive modeling techniques based on Blender modifiers.

Description:
This video is all about carving a bowl out of a solid piece of apple tree wood, using Arbortech power tools. I´m using the the Arbortech TurboPlane for the most time, the Arbortech Ball Gouge for some detail work and hand tools for the final details.
The basic design idea was to carve a bowl with some type of a natural organic shape. Doing so, I followed the wood shape and the grain structure during the carving. Finally I added some stylized acanthus shapes to the corners.
The video shows the individual working steps and shall give you a good impression what you can expect by using the mentioned tools in your projects.
Keep in mind this is not a tutorial, only a demonstration how I did it, ment for entertainment. Please mind the disclaimer in the video description and take care of yourself.

Turning a wooden bowl and add missing parts with resin on a mini lathe Holzmann D460 FXL for wood turning. This video is about turning a bowl in combination with resin. Unfortunately, defects in the wood often appear only during the turning with the result that the bowl becomes smaller and smaller. This time I went a different way. To get the desired shape of my bowl, I had to supplement the missing piece with resin.

I show a method to create Christmas balls with Blender. For this I use different tools in Blender, especially the Array Modifier with an object offset. Then I use a Lattice configuration to rotate and warp parts of the models.
In the beginning everything starts with a block of wood and a rough idea what I can make out of it. I was curious to see how the shape will turn out in the end.
Please keep in mind This video is not a tutorial, it only demonstrates how I proceeded. The techniques shown involve a risk of accidents and damage of all kinds. Please be careful, and keep in mind everyone acts at their own risk.

Profiles can be very handy for different requirements and use cases, for example frames and brackets, tracks for led strips, or other linear or curved guides. I understand this video as a suggestion to develop your own solutions or models for 3D printing as alos for other modelling purposes. Since I need to model some guides for my workshop. Therefore we will use a C-Beam profile sketch and model it with precision.

Here is an example from my longboard build, where I used the printout to have a template to cut the shape, for drilling holes and other working steps, based on the print.
In this example I glued the print on the surface of the plywood boards. Then I worked on the basis of the drawing, but more about this later on.
In this video I show my approach with Fusion 360, I design a longboard shape and prepare the model for a 1:1 printout using DIN A4 paper format size.
Fusion supports drawings up to DIN A0 (1189 to 841mm) paper format size. As long as your work piece fits into one of the provided paper formats, your live is much easier. You can use this paper format for the drawing. Then generate the PDF in and slice the printout with your PDF software to a suitable print size that is defined by your printer setup. Always make sure that no scaling is set in the printer options for the printout.

This is the second part of the "Build a Raised Garden Bed" episode. The first part was about the construction and the woodwork and about the preparation of the individual wooden parts. In this part we will assemble the raised bed, fill it and plant the first time.
As I showed in part 1, my basic design based on 4 posts and some douglas fir wood profiled boards for the side walls. I choosed douglas wood, because it is more resistent to decay if used outside. As you will see later in the video I will use a drainage mat to separate the wooden walls from the wet soil in the raised bed.

Beside several other advantages, on important point is, that it is easier to maintain. Because of a composting process inside, the bed creates a micro climate that supports the growth of the plants. Due to it´s construction it keeps out critters and slugs and you will also have fewer weeds or grass between your plants.
