Making a Blacksmiths Foot Vise Tyler Bell 2019-01-07 | I first learned about foot vises from Andrew @blacksmithtools on Instagram. Then, I got to play with Jimmy DiResta's at his first blacksmithing class and I fell in love. From that moment, I knew I needed one. Some technical stuff: I plan on making the dynamic jaw pivot. The angle in the slot on the static jaw clevis arms are intentional so that the dynamic jaw doesn’t slide up when there is pressure applied. I will eventually add leveling feet or bolt it down. I might even fill the dynamic jaw with sand to add weight and reduce ring. I first saw this machine on Mythbusters when I was 9 years old. They were using it to cut a sword in half with another sword. I've had a desire to build it ever since. The physics that I tried to explain in this video are an over-simplification and I am not an expert.When we measured out the 300' foot marker with the air hose we counted one too many! However, I don’t have a wood lathe and I wanted to challenge myself to come up with an interesting design from metal. A couple of coat hanger prototypes later and boom… hair pin leg stool. I used three 50" lengths of 1/2" cold rolled round bar. I bent them in half and then trimmed all of the ends the same length. Hatchet Restoration with Solid Micarta Handle Tyler Bell 2018-09-19 | Thanks for watching! If you know what this shape of head is used for, please let me know in the comments. The edge is really obtuse and thick and it is pretty heavy. My guess is, it is related to hewing. I understand this probably isn’t the most practical handle material but I wanted to be different and I think it looks fantastic. This material is really forgiving and easy to sand. The dust from this brown canvas Micarta was super yellow and smelled kinda bad. IKEA Hack // Making a Stool Seat from Plywood with Brass Inlay Tyler Bell 2018-08-19 | Welcome to my new Channel! This is the first video I have ever shot for this channel.This project is an IKEA Hack, where I bought a stamped metal RÅSKOG Bar Stool and replaced the seat with maple veneered plywood and brass inlay. I used an 1/8” straight bit in a router to cut a groove that I epoxied and hammered 1/8” brass square bar into. I used a straight edge for routing but you could certainly freehand curves. And since the brass is soft enough to bend by hand, you could bend and hammer the inlay into an organic pattern. I recommend using a darker wood for this though, because when you sand the brass flush the dust may stain the wood. You may have noticed that when I routed through the brass while it was inlayed, the bit skipped around and created a void next to the brass. I think it was due to climb cutting so I took the brass out for the next pass. I wasn’t very clear in the video, but I 3D printed a stencil to trace out half the profile of each leg and mirrored it.
