Officially done with this course I think, I'm tempted to go for a 2:01 w/o dock cut but it's a pretty pointless category now. Satisfied with this run though, hit my goal of .2 which is a nice cut for a flap. Don't think a 37 is possible with current strats, I did manage to find some new ones though. Using a slipdrift before the dock cut saves a lot of time because it aligns you much further to the left. This allows you to use your shroom late and get way less air time over the dock and you can take the shortcut way tighter. Unfortunately you have to cut in the grass for a frame or two but it makes up for it. And yes, going into the grass after the drawbridge is faster in order to keep a straight line.

Q: Who did what? A: DwainiumB made the original lap 1 for this course to which I built this run off of. The beginning of this run until the end of the first turn is his, and then I used the rest of his lap to learn the course and improve off of his ghost.
Q: How do you travel over the water without losing speed? A: When you hit a very specific point at a specific angle at the edge of an island your bike will get enough air to clear the gap and land on the other side without touching any offroad. These points that you need to hit are so precise that trying to hit them in real time is essentially luck, which is why in RTA you would just hop over the gaps.
Q: Why did you brake randomly? Doesn't that lose time? A: Yes, it does lose time. But like I mentioned above, you need to hit very specific positions in order for your bike to get air over the gaps. So sometimes your bike's position is too far forward and the only way to get it into the correct position is to slow down.

I remember telling myself 3 or 4 years ago I would never touch this category again, but here we are. I've learned a lot about this game in the past year, and now the parts I used to find difficult are much easier to understand. As a result I had way less trouble optimizing this course. Really proud of this run it's been a long time coming. My gut tells me there's a better way to do the lap 3 bridge but I tested a lot of different strategies and this one turned out to be the most optimal.
Time save over Rocky's run comes from better lines (23 frames), slip drift into dock sc (17 frames), lap 2 new bridge strat (10 frames), and lap 3 new bridge strat (~5 frames? not too sure about this one)
Thanks to Rocky for the spindrift strat on the lap 1 bridge, to RS Extreme for the lap 2 bridge concept, and to InsaneIsEpic for the lap 3 last turn idea.

Contrary to popular opinion this course was actually a lot of fun to learn. Getting punished for going fast is a shitty mechanic but it forces you to be creative. The shroom strat ended up being pretty simple anyway but I enjoyed messing around with a lot of different strats. The only other shroom strat I could see working is 0-1-2 so you lose less time to the trucks on lap 2

Lap 3 is slower because of car cycles. Other than that there is too much to say about this run. Almost every strat is new, or changed slightly. I will be answering questions in the comments. Special shoutout to Thomas who helped me optimize the first banister and Blaze for the wall clip strat. Also Reo for the original idea of double banister trick.

All runs are from Mario Kart Wii played on dolphin emulator using a combination of savestates, frame advance, TAS input, speedometer, and TAS code. These times do not count on legitimate rankings.
Very happy with all the new finds and strats on this course. This lap can definitely be improved but I'd rather start putting my time into making the 3lap good instead of dwelling on the things I messed up in this run. The first shroom can definitely be improved by using it later so the boost lasts going onto the banister. The first double banister trick can improved with a faster landing. The turn after the second fountain going up can definitely be smoother and tighter. And of course the car cycles can be improved. And no, getting a higher double trick on the fountain is slower because in order to get it you stick less to the fountain and you don't get pushed forward as far.
Shoutout to Zach because I used a lot of his strats
Not my greatest work but this flap was super outdated so I figured I'd try it out with modern strats. Can be pushed to a .7 for sure, but I'm satisfied with the run overall. I'm not very experienced with the track so some of my strats might be off but I don't really want to spend any more time with it.

This TAS is without the use of the dock shortcut (http://bit.ly/1a8ke1N) because I started it before it was discovered.
Well, there is much too say about this run, but I will attempt to be as brief as possible. To start off, I will say that this run is NOT perfect, and believe it or not, I am almost positive that a 2:01 is plausible. Some turns can be improved by starting the drift later or sooner, or by getting a different angle to start the turn. Wheelie chains and the tightness of turns are not an issue because I can perfect them with TAS Input and frame advancing. The other biggest time save possibility is the bridge, which I'm also not sure if I have the best strat for lap 1 or 2.
Something you might also notice from other runs, that lap 1 is usually slower. This is because you start a little bit behind the finish line, and you will need to accelerate to full speed. But, in the case of Delfino square, lap 1 and 2 turn out to be about equal. This is for 4 reasons I can think of. First, on lap 1 you only need to chain one wheelie on the straight, and you can get a better alignment into the first turn. Whereas on the second lap you need to get two wheelie chains on the straight. The final reason is the bridge. You may notice that I use two different strategies for the bridge on lap 1 and 2. The lap 1 strat is achieved by using a "glitch" called Rapid Fire Hop Abuse (RFHA). Basically you need to hop every other frame, or 30 times per second, which is not humanly possible and is why you don't see it in legit runs. As you can see, I do it all the way up to the tip of the bridge, but on lap 2, if you try to RFHA all the way up, it fails near the top and doesn't work. This is because the bridge is in a higher position than it was on the first lap. So what I do is go to the side and trick off the ramp just before the RFHA fails. This strat is just slightly slower than the strat on lap 1. I'm fairly confident there is a better way to do it, but this is the best I could come up with. And for anyone wondering, the 1 drift SC is faster, despite all the time you lose from having to go so wide, is all made up by how quickly you can release your miniturbo.
If you could perfect some of the different points I mentioned, a 2:01 should be possible, but it is out of my expertise and patience to try and do it.
I have yet to decide what course to do next, so it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me a suggestion. :)
