JDWSee how to create an extension cable to pull the logic board outside the Mac's chassis. I close with a special announcement! And yes, the stock SE & SE/30 power cable really is comprised of rather thin 22AWG stranded wire!
🔎 INDEX 0:00 ATX Cable Usage 11:34 Special Announcement
NOTE #1: Some ATX cable listings say the length is 30cm and others 35cm. This is very confusing, but the truth is the wires on the SilverStone ATX cables are 30cm, and if you add the connectors at either end, it's 35cm tip-to-tip. That's a nice length. You can go longer if you want the motherboard even further from your chassis, but the longer the wires, the more resistance and the greater potential for electrical noise. Even so, I doubt it will be an issue if you decide go with 45 or 50cm lengths (for the extension cable) with 18AWG wire, which is in addition to the length of your stock power cable.
NOTE #2: Despite being advertised as a 16AWG cable, as you saw in my video, the SilverStone ATX cable is in fact printed with 18AWG, and the diameter of the wire seems to show that 18AWG is correct. SilverStone covered it with a braid and hoped no one would notice! Very naughty!
NOTE: I highly recommend this cleaner even when not extending your main power cable. If you see any kind of greenish color on your contacts, you probably will have high resistance connections and lower output voltages as a result. DeOxit D5 cleans all that gunk off your connectors quickly and easily, albeit expensively!

#ROMinator #Audacity #SoundMaster #JDWKay Kobas Flippy Floppy REVIEWJDW2024-01-31 | At last! Connect a BMOW FloppyEMU to your Color Classic Mystic with Flippy Floppy by Kero’s Mac Mods, now with a card-compatible Back Panel by Frank Conforti. Want to make a Mystic? Here's how: youtu.be/LwH94XAFkU8
⚠️NOTE: FlippyFloppy is NOT COMPATBLE with a stock Color Classic. It is made for the CC MYSTIC which uses an LC575 motherboard. (Some other vintage Macs like the LCIII are also compatible, according to Kay's Instruction Manual.)
ITEMS TO CREATE YOUR OWN BACK PANEL: • Bambu X1 Carbon 3D printer (what Frank Conforti uses): http://tinyurl.com/4vppnpkj • Muted White 1.75mm PLA Filament (what Frank uses): amzn.to/4b2U81Q NOTE #1: Javier Rivera found that "SILK GREY RAL 7044" is the nearest color-match to vintage Macs like the Color Classic, but it's not cheap: colorfabb.com/silk-grey-ral-7044 NOTE #2: 3D Printers are expensive. Services like PCBWay can print Frank's STL file, but they don't offer PLA in colors that match a Color Classic. NOTE #3: Know someone with a 3D printer and a filament color to your liking? That might be your lowest cost option. • Threaded Brass Female Nut Kit: amzn.to/4aNYsSh • Soldering Iron Tip Kit (to heat-embed Brass Nuts & for spot welds): amzn.to/48ukpV5 NOTE: This Tip Kit is only compatible with the following two soldering irons: • Hakko FX-888D Soldering Station: amzn.to/48uMmMl • Weller SP40NKUS Soldering Iron Kit: amzn.to/3O0CZfb

💁♂️ NEVER format 1.44MB High Density floppies as 800K or 400K. 1.44MB High Density floppies are designed to be written with a stronger magnetic field. 400K & 800K drives Write data with a weaker signal that may develop bit-errors over time. Only use Single-Sided (400K) or Double-Sided (800K), Double-Density disks in 400K or 800K drives. You can use 400K & 800K floppies in Apple's 1.44MB "SuperDrives" because those drives automatically use a weaker magnetic field when writing to the lower density disks. All said, don't use 1.44MB disks in 800K and 400K drives, even if they seem to work fine.

Power off, then disconnect the motherboard carefully such that your hand won't fly upward and break the CRT yoke (not repairable). Toggle Fat Mac Switcher only while powered-off. Be Safe, and Have fun!

🙏 SPECIAL THANKS to Kay Koba Kay always dreams up insanely great stuff and is really nice guy too. He's very responsive in offering me help and advice, and he treats others the same. #FatMacSwitcher #Macintosh128K #KerosMacMods #JDW1SCSI Rider for BlueSCSIJDW2023-04-10 | Watch me build two awesome SCSI Rider kits from Kero's Mac Mods — great for attaching BlueSCSI v1 or v2 to a Mac SE, SE/30, Classic & Classic II, and possibly the IIcx & IIci. ✴️ NEW INFO: (1) SCSI Rider 1 has been confirmed to work with the Mac IIci. (2) Although the middle connector is for connecting a BlueSCSI v2, Kay said SCSI Rider 2 can replace OverEasy II. Just solder on the right-angle connector at the back of SCSI Rider 2, then connect a ribbon cable to any SD card drive. (3) See "SOFTWARE" section below for my BENCHMARK RESULTS.
#SCSIrider #BlueSCSI #KerosMacMods #JDW1How to Add an EMAIL Address on YouTube in 2023JDW2023-03-26 | This video still applies in 2024, but the mindless "leadership" at YouTube took it upon their brilliant selves to eliminate the About tab on your YouTube Channel page! They now hide it in plain sight, which is infuriating because most people will overlook it. On any YouTube Channel page, the " Welcome! 〉" text link is the About tab replacement. Everything else in my video still applies. So why add an email address? I personally think it's important even if you have no videos of your own. Without it, you may miss out on Giveaways or be impossible to contact in emergencies. It's unfortunate YouTube doesn't force all accounts to display an email address, but at least you can remedy that by following this video. It's easy to delete too, if you change your mind.Probe Master 8043SK Review [2023]JDW2023-03-24 | Premium MADE IN USA, gold-plated Probe Upgrade Kit for most any multimeter. ℹ️ GIVEAWAY DETAILS • PRIZE: A FREE Mac SE motherboard KIT that must be soldered & assembled by the winner, without any direct assistance from me, although I have an SE Reloaded video series that walks you through the assembly here: bit.ly/3XCMDGY • PURPOSE: To spread awareness of the fantastic DIY Macintosh SE Reloaded motherboard project and encourage vintage computer enthusiasts and electronic hobbyists to try it. • WINNER SELECTION: Winners are chosen by an automated Comment picker that selects one Comment at random under this video only. • SHIPPING to the winner is paid for by me (ONLY to addresses serviced by Japan Post EMS), but I will NOT pay for RETURNS, nor do I accept any liability nor do I offer any compensation if you burn yourself or otherwise cause harm during the course of your building/soldering the project together. • WARNING! The motherboard kit you assemble cannot be used without a mostly functional Macintosh SE computer with working power supply, CRT, analog board, etc. Why? Because the kit is a motherboard PCB that allows you to move some components from a bad motherboard to the new board. The KIT includes most of the components which are brand new, but some parts must be extracted from a damaged SE motherboard.
• REQUIRED PARTS that are NOT INCLUDED in the KIT (1-6 below):
1. PRAM Battery. Holder & lock included, but not the battery itself. It's a 3.6V ½ AA battery found on Amazon (affiliate link): amzn.to/3yt3CCf
2. PLASTIC MOUNTS for the SW1, SW2 programmer's switches. Two brand new switches are included, but you will need to desolder the old switches from your bad SE motherboard so you can use the 2 plastic switch-mounts. Or can you 3D print your own using an STL file from ALXLAB: bit.ly/3p0V1kw
3. Metal Bar/Bracket (shown in my video)
4. L2, L3 Toroidal Coils -- Desolder them from your battery bombed SE motherboard. Also note that Philippe Astier (iPhil64 on TinkerDifferent) used these with success: bit.ly/3Wj3huH Photo: bit.ly/3WeBEmx
5. Five ICs* (only 2 require desoldering): • “GLU” chip U9D, p/n: 341-0538-A • “ADB” chip U10C, p/n: 342-0440-B • HI (OLD: 342-0352-A or NEW: 342-0701) & LO (OLD: 342-0353-A or NEW: 342-0702) ROM chips U6D, U7D (2pcs) — socketed, no desoldering required! • “IWM” U8D * chip: p/n: 344-0043A or 344-0041-B (no 1.44MB floppy drive support) or “SWIM” chip p/n: 344-0062 DIP IC — socketed, no desoldering required! * See bottom of Page-4 in my BOM for details of how to source or make replacements: bit.ly/3EhUD9v
6. Macintosh SE computer, typically with a battery-bombed or water-damaged motherboard.
⚠️ WARNING! If you can't source the required parts that are NOT INCLUDED, you can't test your motherboard build after you finish it!

Probably because they want a website instead of a YouTube channel. Makes no sense in light of how effective YouTube is at driving sales. It only goes to show the Shareasale folks don't really like to "share a sale.")

🔴 UPDATE on Right Speaker DEFECT 🔴 My dealings with "technic-lee" show them to be an honest and friendly EBAY vendor who I highly recommend. These courteous folks responded promptly and very professionally to my mention of the Right speaker crackle defect. They resolved the speaker issue to my complete satisfaction. It was definitely my best transaction experience on EBAY to date. Regarding the Apple logos missing on the Service Parts, they offered this helpful information: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "We wish Apple would put logos on their service parts but unfortunately they don’t. It would definitely help with consumers wanting to repair their own machines. We can only guess it’s because the parts are internal and only meant for authorized service providers to install. However, that may change soon as Apple has announced their 'Self Service Repair' where they will start selling their parts directly to consumers.
"The number on the box is the Apple part number. The part is made in a factory in China. Not sure if it’s Foxcon, where they produce the iPhone, or Flex, in Singapore, or some other factory. They are pretty tight-lipped about it and since they ship the parts from their warehouses in United States, we see no addresses or information to give us any clues. We aren’t even sure if the parts come in similar packaging in other countries. All the parts come in the same plain brown boxes or envelopes, with the Apple part number label and green tape." -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

🤓 NOT MENTIONED IN MY VIDEO • You must adjust the CC CRT when switching between 640x480 & 800x600 because it's not Multi-sync. • There is no "motherboard mod" to get 640x480. You can change Line Sense on the motherboard or ribbon cable but not Horizontal Deflection Voltage. That's why we make Line Sense & Deflection Voltage changes on the Analog Board. • The logic board "resistor mod" mentioned at "powercc" is only used to get the LC550 or LC575 motherboards to work with the stock CC resolution of 512x384 instead of a software solution: powercc.org/mystic • Like 512x384? A software solution may be best. After doing the Mystic upgrade, I used a ResEdit-hacked System Enabler 065 v1.1 in System 7.1 to get it to work at 512x384: bit.ly/3HhyPtU • System files in 7.5.x, 7.6.x & OS 8.x require ResEdit hacks for the LC575 Mystic motherboard to work at 512x384 (not needed if you do a 640x480 VGA hardware upgrade as shown in my video): bit.ly/3AMcTVB • Stronger Analog Board possible? Yes! The LC575 Analog Board can be cut to fit inside a CC. It's more robust & durable than the stock CC board. METHOD #1 or METHOD #3 (described in my video) can be used with the LC575 Analog board. But it's a lot of work! Kay Koba's Blog provides details, and note the Flyback transformer from CC Analog board is also required: amba.to/3obq7G4 Tyler Smith shows that same mod here: bit.ly/3HhIosK

🙏 I wish to thank Juan José Vélez, Thomas Larsen and others at the Vintage Apple Macintosh Enthusiasts FaceBook group for kindly allowing me to show their destroyed-during-shipping Macs at 25 min. 19 sec. in this video. Juan and Thomas allowed me to mention their names here in the text description. The short video clip of a delivery man thoughtlessly throwing a boxed Mac onto a porch is also publicly displayed on the original poster's Twitter page too, which is why I included it (it had been shown in public on Twitter outside the FB group as of the time of this writing), but I couldn't get a reply back from the original poster, so I do not display the poster's name or Twitter URL. There's an expectation of privacy in private FB groups, and I've sought to respect that while also crediting those who were happy to have their names displayed here. No infringement or disruption to privacy was intended. Simply put, it's terribly unfortunate how old Macs are treated during shipping, even when they are packed reasonably well.

🔗 BUY • Dell 17" Display: tinyurl.com/5hfxh2k4 (Same as mine but without the "C" in the model number.) • DB-15 (for Apple Monitors) to VGA adapter: amzn.to/34VhPZ9 • DeoxIT D5: amzn.to/3f92aeN Expensive, but a truly amazing electrical contact cleaner. Trust me, your connectors will love you! It can fix some CRT display anomalies when used on the yoke board connector and CRT pins (with power off, of course), and it can clean out that greenish oxidation inside your old connectors, which can cause low voltage or intermittent lockups. It's really a must buy item. Thank goodness they sell it here in Japan too! 🙂 💵 NOTE: Your price on Amazon (US only) is the same even if you don't click the "amzn.to" Affiliate links above, but if you do kindly click and purchase within 24 hours, Amazon may pay me a small commission on all qualifying items in your Cart (even items not linked above). • Susan Kare Woodcut Prints: bit.ly/3gzbDvj
