This Waltham pocket watch was produced in around 1918 for Prestons of Bolton, a jeweller store in the North West England. A new old stock mainspring for Waltham 2227 was fine, however after 24 hours of running the timing was going downhill and when I disassembled the barrel the 2227 mainspring was set. A new GR6978TR mainspring had to be modified to fit the Waltham barrel. The lid (called the main wheel) is separated from the barrel (called the lower portion or shell) and the main wheel is staked to the arbour hook. The mainspring modification is required, otherwise when the barrel is near full wind, the hole end would release from the barrel hook. As always, majority of the work is recorded under a macro lens.
