Nicola Runs 2025-10-10 | parkrunworld is a stunning place, and we are absolutely blessed with a vast array of stunning locations to run in. It has become a running joke that I have twenty parkruns (or more!) in my top ten favourite parkruns. The time has come to make a choice and whittle it down to just ten. Running Middleton Woods 300th parkrun! Celebrating in Style with an End of Summer Beach Party! Nicola Runs 2025-09-21 | I absolutely love fancy dress, so when I heard that Middleton Woods were having an End of Summer Beach Party to celebrate then I knew exactly where we were heading!It turns out that trying to run carrying a load of inflatables is actually quite a challenge, albeit very fun! We had such a wonderful time celebrating with this incredible group of people. Middleton Woods parkrun has such a lovely community feel and they also really love an excuse to dress up.I definitely recommend a visit, especially if it is a week these guys are celebrating something! And if you do visit then try to take your bike along as the cycling facilities here are immense, and they're all free! Bramley is Family! Running Bramley parkrun playing the p-index long game. Loving parkrun Challenges! Nicola Runs 2025-09-14 | I was having a think about my parkrun goals and decided to work on my p-index. There is an explainer in this video about what that means. The higher your p-index gets, the harder it gets to increase it! I am currently on 12, just one run away from a p-index of 13 but I would love to get to 15! I decided to choose Bramley parkrun as one of my p-index parkruns which means I'll be visiting Bramley a bit more frequently. After running here I am so happy with my choice! I forgot how fantastic the community are, and... Is this the best selfie frame in all of parkrunworld?! I'm yet to see better! Can I Run a Marathon After 9 Months of Being Injured?! Running Hornsea Marathon with IGUN. Nicola Runs 2025-09-07 | I recently received my MRI results that showed a double annular tear in my lower spine. It was good to know exactly what is wrong and talk to the spinal injury clinic about what I can and can't do safely. I have been encouraged to keep moving as much as possible. This information, coupled with the fact that I am supposed to be pacing the Yorkshire Marathon, and I start a new job on Monday left me feeling pretty nervous! I wanted to know that I could run marathon distance without my back feeling worse. I wanted to know how my back would feel the following day, and whether pacing at Yorkshire is realistic. It was lovely to run with Claire and it was so wonderful to even be in a position where I could consider running distance again. In the end I think my take home messages from this experience were that I need to not stop when running distance. My back is fine running and if I stop then I need to properly rest my back. Stop-starting is not an option... Which is fine for pacing Yorkshire as I won't be stop-starting then! My back felt absolutely fine the next day so that was great. I must also remember to put more sun block on! I am beyond delighted to have been able to complete a marathon, and even better than that, for my fasted miles to be my final three. I have a few more questions to answer before I can pace Yorkshire confidently but I have the time to ask and answer those. All in all a great day out, a great run, a brilliant medal, and another marathon towards my long term goal of reaching the hundred marathon club! Running Dunstable Downs parkrun. Discovering the Whipsnade Lion and Finding Out About Wind Catchers! Nicola Runs 2025-08-24 | We were travelling down to London to see BLACKPINK at Wembley Stadium and wanted to visit an epic parkrun on the way there. I'd heard great things about Dunstable Downs parkrun and they weren't wrong!This is a pretty tough parkrun. An undulating, trail, one-lapper definitely not a PB course but the views are incredible and there is even a trig point! The team were super lovely and I really enjoyed the chat on the finish line. If you're in the area then a visit to this National Trust AONB parkrun is a must!Thank you to the whole team for a brilliant morning. This Race Almost Didnt Happen! Temple Newsam Track Restoration Fund Run. An Awesome Trail 10km! Nicola Runs 2025-08-17 | I loved the feel of this race so much last year that I returned for the second year to support this incredible cause! In the year since this fundraising started this awesome community have raised enough money to put a new cinder surface down on the track! It looks incredible and feels even better compared to running on the old, warn out and rutted surface. However it's not been easy for these guys! Just 24 hours before the race some criminals abandoned a burnt out car on the track. It was set fire to after joyriding on the track causing a lot of damage and leaving the track covered in glass etc. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/crime/temple-newsam-burnt-out-car-5265820Luckily this mindless act was no match for the determination of this community and they rallied together to clean up the mess and make sure the track was ready for the race. Unfortunately the white lines could not be repaired in time but what a turnaround from unusable to race ready! This is a tough 10km trail race but the community spirit and incredible marshals giving you so much support on course are what to come for. I can't recommend this race enough. It's going in my calendar every year that's for sure! An MRI for my Spinal Injury in Leeds at 7:50am, and Running the York 10km at 9:30am. Sub 1 Hour 10km Nicola Runs 2025-08-10 | What a busy Sunday morning! I have been suffering with a spinal injury for the past 9 months. Initially diagnosed as an L5 disc bulge I had lots of physio to help with the sciatica and at first that was working. However now the spinal clinic think that something else is going on as every evening I am in excruciating back pain. I wake up feeling good as new every morning, and as long as I stay active then it's not too bad to manage with painkillers. This scan will enable us to diagnose exactly what is wrong and hopefully I can get back to running the trail ultra marathons that I love!By working hard at the gym and doing physio I have built back up to running around 15 miles at a time so I am feeling hopeful about my running future. I was worried about how to fit in the MRI and race in one morning though given that they were around a 45 minute drive away from each other! Luckily I was the first appointment of the day and the MRI was done swiftly. I had most definitely not anticipated having a slight mental collapse during the scan! It took me back to thoughts of all the scans my husband Ben had in the lead up to his death. Staying still is really difficult to do when you're crying! I was so pleased to be rushing straight to a race so that there was no time to feel sorry for myself! I made it over to York with about 10 minutes to spare. Thankfully the race is chip timed so I was pretty relaxed about making it to the start on time. The race was super well organised and the route was interesting! Lots of 90 degree bends and even several 180 degree switchbacks! I had such a great time and it was brilliant to hang out with the one hour pacers who did a fantastic job for Northern Pacing Volunteers. Kudos to all the pacers as with the twists and turns then this is not an easy race to pace! I finished the morning with a medal around my neck and a smile on my face so I'm definitely taking that as a win! Hopefully I'll get my MRI results back soon and can find out what's wrong, and more importantly... What's next! Running my 250th Different parkrun at Trentham Gardens parkrun followed by Trentham Monkey Forest! Nicola Runs 2025-08-03 | I finally reached my 250th different parkrun venue. It's been such an incredible journey to this point: so many parkrun venues; so many beautiful places; and so many gorgeous communities. I feel so very fortunate to have been able to visit all of these wonderful places and had so many magical Saturday mornings.I heard that Trentham Gardens parkrun was a destination parkrun with incredible sculptures so I was so excited to head here for my celebration parkrun. I was not disappointed! This parkrun is utterly amazing! It definitely takes a spot in my Top Ten parkruns. Add this parkrun to your 'Must Visit' list! There is so much to do on the Trentham Estate. A coffee in PAU Café is a must as they support the parkrun and paid the initial start up costs! Celebrating Event Director Amandas 250th parkrun at Chevin Forest parkrun! Party at the Back! Nicola Runs 2025-07-20 | When our lovely Event Directors celebrate their parkrun milestones then it feels extra special so there was no way I was going to miss Amanda's 250th parkrun! We headed over to Otley to run Chevin Forest parkrun to join in the celebrations. As soon as we arrived we made the decision to parkwalk all together and make the most of the party at the back! Running Rushcliffe parkrun: parkrun on Old Bomb Factory/MoD Site! Rushcliffe Country Park-Ruddington Nicola Runs 2025-07-13 | The plan had been to celebrate my 250th different parkrun at Rushcliffe parkrun with friends however, I sometimes life gets in the way. I had to repeat a parkrun and that threw all the plans out! So this video shows my 249th different parkrun at the stunningly beautiful Rushcliffe parkrun! I knew that this parkrun was going to be gorgeous as so many people had told me it was. What they didn't tell me was just how much there is to do here! This is an utterly fantastic place to spend the day, especially for families with young kids. I can't recommend a visit highly enough.To top it all off the team are incredible and you get a whopping 20% off in the café before 10:30am if you show them your parkrun barcode! This was a great day and made me even more excited about my 250th different parkrun. Rescuing Birds and Running Withernsea Promenade parkrun To Regain Regionnaire Status! Nicola Runs 2025-07-06 | In my quest to regain my regionnaire status I headed over to Withernsea Promenade parkrun. This parkrun has been on my radar since it began almost a year ago but I had been waiting for the perfect weekend to run a beach parkrun. With temperatures forecast to be in the mid to high twenties then I jumped at the opportunity to run here and then spend the day at the beach.The course is a three time out-and-back on the promenade which made this run incredibly sociable and friendly. I loved how many high-fives I got and how much encouragement we all gave each other. The team here are incredibly wonderful and it's a real family affair. Running Wynyard Woodland parkrun. Celestial Kitchen, Thorpe Thewles Station & Castle Eden Walkway! Nicola Runs 2025-06-27 | The forecast of pouring rain in Manchester meant that we changed plans and headed north. We made the best decision as not only did we stay pretty dry, but we discovered the parkrun gem that is Wynyard Woodland parkrun. This course runs straight out-and-back on the Castle Eden Walkway and is super sociable, particularly at the finish!There is a Planetarium and an Observatory near the car park, and a five minute walk along the trail away from the parkrun start will take you to the wonderfully captivating sculpture that is the Celestial Kitchen. I highly recommend a wander down to this gorgeous sculpture if you visit this parkrun. It's one not to miss! Another thing not to miss are the freshly baked scones from the café! We had a really wonderful visit here. As always the welcome you get in the North East is second to none. The highlight of my morning has to be the super cute, super fluffy, gorgeous little Lenny! This parkrunday was pure soul food! Running Newark parkrun in Sconce & Devon Park. A Fantastic parkrun with Awesome Civil War History! Nicola Runs 2025-06-22 | This parkrun has everything you need at a parkrun. Café, toilets, parking... But it also has an incredible history that comes with it too! Newark's Civil War Trail finishes here, right by the Queen's Sconce. If you're visiting then do spend time exploring the Sconce and appreciating the beautiful cannon sculpture and the super cool compass showing Newark's defences. It'd also be a great place to watch parkrun if you're bringing spectators with you! I very much enjoyed the run briefing as it made me smile all the way through it! Running Riverside parkrun, County Durham, then Coffee in a Castle! Rescuing Items from the River! Nicola Runs 2025-06-15 | We stayed overnight in Durham and headed over to the beautiful Riverside parkrun. Every time I come to the North East I am blown away by how gorgeously friendly the people here are! This parkrun epitomises community spirit. Their printed signs are so helpful and the cartoon marshal faces printed on them really made me smile. I loved the course split where you can choose left or right. I would recommend trying both just so you feel you have fully explored the park but make no mistake... The left is definitely shorter, so if you're after a time then make sure you go left! This park is beautiful and the ducklings made it even more so! We absolutely loved visiting this parkrun! Huge thanks to Steve and the whole volunteer team here for making us feel so very welcome. Running Rudding Parkrace - My Favourite 10km Trail Race with an Epic Post-Race Experience! Nicola Runs 2025-06-06 | After my fantastic experience last year how could I not go back to run Rudding Parkrace?! It was the biggest year yet with around 150 more runners than last year.Expectations were high but support during the race exceeded last year's for sure! The trails were just as beautiful and I really enjoyed the race itself. The finish line party was just as good with a medal, water, ice cream, food, beers, fruit, and of course the infamous goody bag! Was the goody bag as good as last year? Probably not quite but not by much at all... It was still absolutely fantastic! I didn't have the surprise of the finish line party that blew me away last year but the experience was still great. I'd highly recommend this race... Only I don't need to as it's a sell out each year and it's not hard to see why!A great 10km trail race in a beautiful setting with a great post-race experience. Poppys 250th parkrun - Age 12! Potternewton parkrun for a Special parkrun Milestone Celebration! Nicola Runs 2025-05-31 | This was such a special day for us! Poppy ran her first parkrun on her 4th birthday before declaring 5km too far and then jumping back in the buggy the following week! Most weeks since then Poppy has had the choice of whether to parkrun or not. Most weeks she has chosen to but some weeks the duvet has won the fight! The great covid parkrun pause and some social activities on a Saturday morning have played an important part of Poppy's parkrun journey too. But I love that! I love that it has been, and will be Poppy's own parkrun journey.I loved that Poppy thought that nobody was coming and I loved seeing her face that morning when she realised that people had come to celebrate with her. Thanks to each and every person for everything they did to make Poppy's morning one to remember.I'm such a proud mum and I love that parkrun has helped Poppy grow into a happy and confident young person. I know that her dad would be incredibly proud of her too and of what she's achieved in the ten years since his death.Huge thanks to the wonderful team at Potternewton parkrun for making this celebration what it was. Sunday 5km parkrun! Running Futakotamagawa parkrun, Tokyo on Greenery Day: Japans Extra Day parkrun Nicola Runs 2025-05-23 | Our final day in Japan was Greenery Day and parkrun Japan's extra day parkrun! We'd timed our trip around this date so that whilst we were only in Japan for three weeks, we could run four different parkruns in three weekends. This was our final parkrun of the four and Futakotamagawa was actually the birthplace of parkrun Japan so it felt special to be visiting. This video shows our visit to this gorgeous parkrun. A flat out, run three laps and back, but on the way back turn left onto a short out-and-back, on the paths that surround the sports fields next to the river Tama. The biggest Japanese parkrun we'd done by far and also the one with most tourists! Huge thanks to the wonderful team at Futakotamagawa parkrun for a the most wonderful morning. An Out-and-Back parkrun Near Disney Land Nicola Runs 2025-05-18 | Our final weekend in Japan was over the Greenery Day weekend so we got to run two parkruns in two days: A regular Saturday parkrun, and Japan's Extra parkrunday the following day to celebrate Greenery Day. On the Saturday we headed to Urayasushi Sogo Koen parkrun to the south of Tokyo so that Poppy could get a "U" for her parkrun alphabet! The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. Nagoya and Meijo Koen parkrun.We are in Japan for their extra day parkrun: Greenery Day! I've never been to Japan and wanted to explore the country, the culture, and the parkruns!We got the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya to run Meijo Koen parkrun. This video is the story of that journey. Koen means park in Japanese so we visited Meijo Park parkrun. This parkrun is four laps and is right next to Nagoya Castle. Running South Manchester parkrun in Platt Fields Park. Nicola Runs 2025-04-23 | For some reason it's taken me over a decade to realise that there's a load of parkruns around Manchester that are only an hour from my house?! This was a LONG overdue visit to the wonderful South Manchester parkrun.Visiting in the summer meant no Ditch of Doom, just a flat, fast two lapper around the gorgeous Platt Fields Park. With the cherry blossom in bloom and blue skies then we really saw this parkrun in its best light. I highly recommend a visit here, there's so many reasons why but fairly close to the top of my list has to be MUD Kitchen! Wythenshawe parkrun. Frog Bins, Oliver Cromwell, Wythenshawe Hall and a Wonderful Trail Run! Nicola Runs 2025-04-13 | We headed over the Pennines to check out Wythenshaw parkrun. A gorgeous trail run in a wonderful park with an incredible amount of facilities. One tiny loop and then two big laps around the park.This course is a great one to run in winter to enjoy some mud or to run in summer in the sunshine. A fantastic team, a great courtyard café and some pretty awesome cycling facilities so maybe take your bike if you are visiting. It's also worth looking up the opening dates for Wythenshaw Hall as it's such a beautiful building but only open to the public once a month, so if you can make your visit here coincide with this then you're winning! Epworth Equestrian parkrun relocated-Running Vermuyden Way with parkrun Jeff, planes & a Happy Café! Nicola Runs 2025-04-06 | We had an absolutely fantastic time visiting the wonderful team from Epworth Equestrian parkrun who worked really hard over the past six months to ensure that their community were not without parkrun for too long. The result of their hard work is Vermuyden Way parkrun: A flat, trail, out-and-back on Vermuyden Way (on the Isle of Axholme) with a small turnaround in woodland. I'll cut to the chase and be straight with you, the main reason to come here is the goodest parkrun boy, parkrun Jeff. He's the most beautiful dog and just loves being at parkrun. He's an absolute delight! Jeff's owner Adi is the Event Director here and helps lead the most brilliant community that is absolutely thriving. This parkrun has everything you could want... Café, toilets, parking but there's the added bonus of being a really beautiful, sociable run and there are so many planes taking off and landing that this parkrun is a must for any aviation enthusiasts! I can't recommend a visit highly enough. A Science Park parkrun! Running Alderley Park parkrun on an Old AstraZeneca Site! Nicola Runs 2025-03-30 | We didn't have a huge amount of time to parkrun so my friend Vicky and I headed over to Alderley Park parkrun. They don't have a café so we knew our capacity to parkfaff was limited. As someone with a Masters in Medicinal Chemistry and a PhD in Chemical Biology then I was super excited to run a parkrun on this site with such an exciting history in bio and life sciences. Alderley Park was a global lead centre for cancer research when owned by AstraZeneca and many important drugs that are used worldwide today came from this site. It would be possible to turn up and parkrun here without acknowledging the important scientific history of the site. Apart from the start/finish area then the parkrun itself is largely in stunning woodland or along the dam of Radnor Mere. However for me, knowing a bit about the site made the parkrun experience much more fulfilling. It really felt like a unique parkrun.At the moment the toilets here may well win the award for the poshest parkrun toilets, however work is due to begin which means that these soon won't be available so if posh parkrun toilets are your thing then you'll have to visit soon!Huge thanks to the team here for making us feel so welcome. After I finished running I chatted to the scanning team for ages and they were all so lovely that I could really tell what a wonderful community this parkrun has. Definitely worth a visit! Beautiful Burnley parkrun and Running One of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways: Burnley Embankment! Nicola Runs 2025-03-23 | Burnley parkrun has been my NENDY for an absolute age and I finally headed over to check it out. I should have visited sooner! Towneley Park is definitely the jewel in Burnley's crown and Burnley parkrun is a jewel in parkrun world! Poor Poppy was feeling poorly so our parkrun became a parkrun but that just meant we had more time to enjoy this beautiful place. Plus we invented parkpicnic... Running Black Rocks parkrun - A Triple Out-and-Back on the High Peak Trail in the Peak District Nicola Runs 2025-03-18 | We headed to Week 7 of Black Rocks parkrun in the stunning Peak District to have a podcast patron listener meet-up, as well as to see lots of our parkrun ambassador friends who were there for the regional ambassador meeting. This parkrun is an absolute stunner. The views from the trail are unbelievable and the views from the top of Black Rocks are even better!There is so much to do in the area that you would be best making a weekend of it and visiting on a weekend when Middleton Top Visitor Centre is open so that you can visit there, as well as the National Stone Centre.The team at this parkrun were so lovely and friendly, so a huge thanks to them all for their wonderful hospitality and enthusiasm. Running Lochend Woods parkrun in Sunny Scotland! Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotlands sunniest place! Nicola Runs 2025-03-07 | We stayed in Sunny Scotland for a week and after enjoying Skinadin parkrun we explored beautiful Skye before heading to Dunbar. My mum lives in Dunbar but I've never run the parkrun there so Poppy and I headed over to check it out!This parkrun has a real mix of manmade sports facilities and all that comes with them (toilets, café etc.) and then some really peaceful running in beautiful woodland. The team here are so friendly and welcoming and Haddington Farmers Market (on the last Saturday of the month) was a real find.As always I loved our time in Scotland and each time I visit I fall in love with it just a little bit more! Running Skinadin parkrun on the Stunning Isle of Skye in the Hebrides, Scotland. A Top Ten parkrun! Nicola Runs 2025-02-23 | Since parkrun started on the Isle of Skye six months ago I have wanted to visit. I absolutely love the Scottish Highlands and I knew the drive here would be absolutely epic. What I didn't know was that the weather on Skye, in February, can be remarkably kind! I had an absolutely incredible week in Scotland, Munro bagging, exploring waterfalls and finishing up visiting my mum in Dunbar. I can't believe I got more sunshine in Scotland than my friends had back in Leeds. I feel very very lucky! Skinadin parkrun is a real gem. A destination parkrun for sure and the scenery and wildlife are unreal. There is a close knit community here, as you'd expect of island life, and this is also one of the things that attracted me to this parkrun. Everyone we met was so lovely and it was great to get advice about how to spend a few days on Skye. We definitely made the most of our time there and the unexpected sunshine. Don't just head here for the parkrun and dash off... You'll be kicking yourself as you'll be missing out. Skye has so much to offer, especially if you go outside of tourist season as we did. The parkrun itself is unbelievably beautiful and if Skinadin parkrun wasn't on your parkrun Bucket List then I hope it is after watching this video. Running Vicar Water parkrun-Golden Hand, Clipstone Headstocks, Clippomanjaro & the Anne Bower Blast! Nicola Runs 2025-02-16 | We headed down to Clipstone for Vicar Water Country Park parkruns 4th event to celebrate Michael Wood's Cowell with him. I try to avoid these early events as they are usually pretty busy, Vicar Water Country Park parkrun was no different! The team here were fantastic and took it all in their stride... Even the horse trotting along at 9am as we were about to start! This parkrun felt really special, there is so much to see on the way around and the views from the top of the hill are definitely worth the climb! I can't recommend this parkrun highly enough. The route is incredible, the team amazing, and the café even serves a chip butty! Running Sale Water Park parkrun as Phoenix parkrun Cancel Their Birthday Run. Ice Stops Play! Nicola Runs 2025-02-09 | We set off to Phoenix parkrun's 8th birthday but the continuation 2025 having terrible weather on a weekend continued with a named storm on Friday and ice on Saturday morning! Luckily we had time to dash over to Sale Water parkrun despite their Facebook page being taken down so we weren't 100% sure the event was on! It was a risk worth taking as Sale Water parkrun is spectacular! Taking in beautiful Sale Water Park itself as well as running along the banks of the River Mersey. The team here were wonderful too and the café had a real community feel and we ended up speaking to locals long after all other parkrunners had gone home... Oh and they do a chip butty! For me that's the test of a good café!Well worth a visit, particularly on a beautiful sunny morning like the one we were lucky enough to get. It was spectacular! Running Doddington Hall parkrun - Permanent Finish Funnel, TWO cafes... All The Extras and No Cows! Nicola Runs 2025-02-02 | We headed down to run Doddington Hall parkrun to complete our tour of Lincoln's parkruns having run Yarborough Leisure Centre and Lincoln previously. This was such a fun trip with friends. In addition to the great company on the way there and back then the team here added ALL of the fun... See the giant traffic cone for evidence of this! This parkrun has so many parkrun extras. The permanent finish funnel is amazing, as are the milestone boards, the finish token box, the TWO cafes, not to mention the beautiful grounds to walk. It's worth checking out if there are any events on at Doddington Hall itself as you could combine your parkrun trip for an ultimate tourist experience!We had so much fun here, I can't thank Shane and his team enough. Searching for a parkrun. Cancellations in Icemageddon. Running York parkrun on their 13th birthday. Nicola Runs 2025-01-26 | We've not been too lucky this winter with storms largely hitting the UK towards the end of the week and severe weather affecting parkruns. This weekend was no exception! The only parkruns for miles and miles were Roundhay and York. Both events were understandably large events as people tried to get their parkrun fix in challenging conditions! As Roundhay didn't confirm if they were definitely on or not then I headed over to York parkrun for my 5th run there. The morning was absolutely stunning and I was so happy to get my parkrun fix on a weekend when I had made peace with possibly missing parkrun if all nearby events were cancelled. I can't thank the volunteers enough! Over 40 people were involved in getting this parkrun sorted for this icy event... Which just so happened to be their 13th birthday! Running Lincoln parkrun - Playing on the Zipwire, Counting Bridges & the Resident Heron! Nicola Runs 2025-01-12 | For the last parkrun in 2024 I headed to Lincoln parkrun. A three lapper on tarmac in Boultham Park (pronounced 'BOOTam'). With so many bridges, a resident heron, a zipwire (even if it is a bit slow) and the fantastic indoor bowling centre then this is a brilliant parkrun to visit! Part of the charm of Lincoln parkrun is definitely the team. Is This The UKs Hardest parkrun? Running Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun on Christmas Day. Nicola Runs 2025-01-05 | We were staying in Norfolk for Christmas and there was only one parkrun we wanted to go to... Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun! I have freedom run the course before and so know how tough it is but there is nothing like running the course on an actual parkrunday. Typically this is a very small parkrun, probably because you have to love a real challenge to want to run here regularly. In the past decade Christmas Day parkruns have grown in popularity and now they represent the best parkrun of the year! So much festive spirit and joyful energy. A two lapper through the lovely Melton County Park, with a wonderful team, and dog agility zones that I probably got too excited about! Running Pontefract parkrun. p-Index Chasing in Winter Sunshine and the Biggest Chip Butty! Nicola Runs 2024-12-24 | Commitments in December meant I needed to be closer to home so I looked to parkrun goals I could still work on. I decided to work on increasing my p-index to 13 with my 13th run at Pontefract parkrun.I love this parkrun having been here sporadically over the last decade and having run at their 3rd event back in 2011. We were so lucky to run on such a beautiful morning and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces from back in the day! I was a fan of the new out-and-back alternative course and had a wonderful parkrun here with such an amazing team and parkrunners. Running Cross Flatts parkrun with Sciatica - parkrun Therapy on the Most Beautiful Morning! Nicola Runs 2024-12-20 | I found it really hard to decide where to parkrun on this particular Saturday. Crewing Gods Own Backyard Ultra (GOBYU) after Running Woodhouse Moor parkrun. Nicola Runs 2024-12-14 | God's Own Backyard Ultra is held in Yorkshire (God's own country) at Hunters Greave in Kirkstall, Leeds. My wonderful friend Eleanor has taken part in every GOBYU... I'm pretty sure it's her favourite race! Hunting for a parkrun in Storm Bert. Half the UK Events Cancelled! Running Cheadle Hulme parkrun. Nicola Runs 2024-12-01 | The plan was to run Lancaster parkrun and so we stayed over in Lancaster on Friday night. The weather forecast was awful, with Storm Bert due to hit early Saturday morning. Friday night the team at Lancaster parkrun cancelled their event. There were a few options close enough for us to get to Saturday morning but staying in Lancaster was risky because if those nearby events cancelled then we wouldn't have time to get anywhere else. We made the call to head down to Greater Manchester where there was a much higher density of events... This was a great call as all parkruns near Lancaster cancelled Saturday morning. One by one our options in Manchester cancelled until at 8:20am Cheadle Hulme parkrun announced that they were on! Minutes later then Wythenshawe parkrun announced that they were also on but we were already on our way to Cheadle Hulme.Cheadle Hulme parkrun was awesome! Three laps of muddy, cross country goodness! And when I say muddy I mean MUDDY! There were lots of muddy bottoms from slipping and sliding over and luckily the café (The Vinery) don't mind muddy shoes and we headed there to warm up and refuel after our run. It was lovely to see so many parkrun tourists and we all felt hugely lucky to have found a parkrun to run at with so many events cancelled in the UK. 700 PARKRUNS! Running my 700th parkrun at Potternewton on my 17th parkrun birthday! Nicola Runs 2024-11-24 | The stars aligned and I got to run my 700th parkrun on the week of my 17th parkrun birthday! I wanted to head to a parkrun close to home but one that wasn't too busy and so I chose the beautiful but very hilly Potternewton parkrun. It was such a lovely morning and great to have a chance to look back and have a moment of gratitude for the hard times parkrun has helped me get through, and to thank the wonderful volunteers that have facilitated my parkrun journey. Is this the Last Ever Guy Fawkes 10? Running the Birstwith Brute, Swincliffe Swine & For Fawkes Sake Nicola Runs 2024-11-17 | The Guy Fawkes 10 was always one of my favourite races. Ten miles of brutal hills in beautiful countryside rewarded with the biggest bag of chocolate... What could be better? Unfortunately this race always clashes with Poppy's birthday weekend so I've not had the chance to run it for absolutely years! Luckily Poppy was at a friend's birthday party and I could make it to, what looks like the last, Guy Fawkes 10 at the stunning Ripley Castle.A week of running up hills and mountains in Scotland probably wasn't the best way to prepare for this race but life is for living and my legs forgave me eventually! Huge thanks to Nidd Valley Road Runners for so many years of such an epic race. I've got everything crossed that we can celebrate it's 40th year in style next year! The parkrun With Everything-Sedgefield parkrun - Dragons, Castles, Temples. This parkrun has it all! Nicola Runs 2024-11-14 | We got up super early so that we would have time to check out a new parkrun on our way from Dunbar to Leeds. Sedgefield parkrun lies just off the A1 so location wise it was perfect and being one of the older parkruns then a visit felt somewhat overdue! I'm not going to lie, this parkrun blew me away! In some small part this is due to a preconceived notion that there wasn't a lot to see at this parkrun... I couldn't have been more wrong! Hardwick Park is a beautiful setting and the follies, and more recent additions such as the dragon and the playground, make this parkrun a winner. With everything you could possibly need at a parkrun all within a stones throw of each other then this is a perfect parkrun location. Well worth checking out and one I wish I'd have visited sooner! Running the Gorgeous Crinan Canal parkrun as a Freedom Run Nicola Runs 2024-11-09 | I couldn't resist the opportunity to check out one of Scotland's newest parkruns, Crinan Canal parkrun, while I was visiting the Mull of Kintyre. This gem of a parkrun is a must visit! Crinan itself is such a beautiful town and the views from this parkrun are unbelievable! A flat, fast, out-and-back with the added bonus of it being impossible to get lost! Running the Yorkshire Marathon 2024 in Storm Ashley. Pacing for Northern Pacing Volunteers - 5 Hours Nicola Runs 2024-11-03 | I had to pull out of this race last year due to injury so I was delighted to be at the start line with a huge pacing flag attached to my back! I absolutely love marathon pacing. I find it incredibly fun and incredibly rewarding. Storm Ashley made things interesting and this was definitely the most effort I've ever had to put into running a 5 hour marathon! Whenever there was a headwind then we really struggled. Another struggle that was real was keeping your race number attached! They weren't designed for storm conditions! It was so incredibly satisfying to see everyone achieving their goals and smashing it. Congratulations to Ollie for not only completing his first ever marathon but for doing 20 finish line press-ups with me! Huge congratulations to everyone who completed this marathon in less than ideal conditions... Not an easy day at the office. I had to laugh at the beautiful sunshine at the finish, the law of sod strikes again! Celebrating 20 Years of parkrun! Running Bushy parkrun Pilgrimage on International parkrunday! Nicola Runs 2024-10-26 | Poppy ran her first official parkrun on her fourth birthday. It therefore felt fitting that she would get run her Bushy parkrun Pilgrimage on the 20th birthday of parkrun. Following on from Event 1000 where over 6,000 parkrunners descended on Bushy park then we were suitably nervous that this (event 1,005) would be another event that was realistically far too big. However, we were pleasantly surprised! The entire morning was wonderful! From the awards given out at the start, to the run itself, to the post-run parkfaff in the glorious sunshine. If you've not been to Bushy parkrun then it's definitely one to visit. Exploring the park the night before was utterly magical too.Dans le Noir was also absolutely brilliant! I would definitely recommend this as a dining experience if you get the chance!Huge thanks to Paul (PSH) for starting this wonderful movement that has shaped my Saturdays for the past 17 years and to all of the incredible volunteers who help make it happen. Running a 10km Race the Day After an Ultra Marathon. Temple Newsam Track Restoration 10km Fund Run. Nicola Runs 2024-10-13 | There was no way I was going to miss this race as it was for such a brilliant cause. It's not ideal to enter a 10km race the day after running parkrun and an ultra, but sometimes my love for running overrides my common-sense! The work that St. Theresa's Athletics Club, Crossgates Harriers, and other volunteers, have put into getting the track looking this good for the race was so heart-warming to see. The race route itself was awesome, and it was great to run on paths around Temple Newsam that I've never run on before. The support on course was amazing, there was such a great camaraderie while running, and the goody bag was brilliant too! I believe this race is now going to be held annually which is a real plus for the running community in Leeds. A welcome addition to the race calendar! Running parkrun before Running an Ultra Marathon. Harrogate parkrun & Panther Takes the Hindmost Nicola Runs 2024-10-06 | I missed my long run due to a niggle in my knee and thought the best course of action was to enter a marathon a week later... As you do! The marathon was on a Saturday so naturally I needed to run parkrun first! I headed to Harrogate parkrun and then rushed over to meet team Punk Panther to join in Panther Takes The Hindmost. In this race all runners run four qualifying 10.5km loops (a marathon). From this point onwards all runners complete a lap, and every lap the runner at the back is eliminated until there is just one runner left standing... The winner! My plan was just to run a marathon and stop there but this proved harder than I thought it would be (you'll see why in the video!).I was very happy to finish this race feeling fit, strong and happy. Huge thanks to the volunteer team at Harrogate parkrun and to team Punk Panther. I love my running friends for keeping me accountable and helping me push my boundaries. This day made me feel so happy and I even did my finish line press-ups. I think these might become a thing now after running a marathon or longer (unless I'm pacing as that might look like it is showing off!).
