Whats Not To HikeHello and welcome. I will keep this short and sweet.
On new years eve, I reached my 2024 goal of 1000 subscribers and I want to thank each and every one of you by having a giveaway. You don't have to be a subscriber to enter but it certainly helps if you are ;-)
The reason I've asked you to comment on a different video, is because these giveaway videos often attract bots and spammers that automatically comment and leave links etc to some rather unsavoury websites. So by commenting on another video should stop this from happening.
Once I feel there are enough 'Light Me Up' comments I will then make the prize draw. You can enter from anywhere in the world and I will contact you directly if you win.
I have no affiliation with Nitecore and this prize is paid for by myself out of my own pocket.

With a storm raging outside, we were ready to settle in for the night until some strange goings on started happening. We had no choice but to stay the night as the storm was too severe to be travelling in, especially in the pitch black darkness and no tent.
We still cannot explain it and we'll leave it to you to decide. However, from the original video, there were some comments about it being fake. All i can say is its not. Everything you see is how it was. We are just a couple of outdoor enthusiasts who like to make videos, have a drink and a laugh and that's it.

I thought I would upload just the drone footage I took of y recent trip into the High Pyrenees of Spain, as some people may just want to see that, rather than me wandering around sweating a lot :-)
This was filmed on the @DJI mini 3 pro at 24fps in normal colour mode and an N32 ND Filter.

Happy hiking! Remember - LEAVE NO TRACE!A Silent, Solo Hike & Wild Camp Across Spains Most Spectacular SceneryWhats Not To Hike2025-09-22 | Hello and welcome! My name is Martin, and I’m a passionate outdoor enthusiast who loves exploring nature and sleeping under the stars.
In this video, I spent four days hiking, camping, and staying in refuges, starting from Refugi Conangles and ending in Arties.
Initially, I planned to hike to Espot via Refugi Colomers after Refugi Restanca, but due to a recent knee injury that flared up again, I decided to rest for a day at Refugi Restanca. To avoid further risk, I chose to walk to Arties instead, from where I made my way back home to Barcelona.
This video has no narration—just the sights and sounds I personally experienced. I believe this creates a more immersive experience for you, giving you a sense of being there with me. My inspiration comes from @HarmenHoek, whose incredible silent hiking and camping videos continue to amaze me. If you haven’t seen his work, I highly recommend checking it out.
I hope you enjoy the video! As always, feel free to leave any questions, constructive feedback, or suggestions in the comments section, and I’ll be sure to respond.

I created this channel to share my adventures with you and inspire you to get outside and experience the beauty of the great outdoors for yourself. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just starting out, there's something here for everyone.
I believe that spending time in nature is one of the most rewarding experiences we can have as humans as it allows us to connect with ourselves and the world around us in a deep and meaningful way.
I live in Spain and try to get to the mountains as much as I can, to help me wind down after a week at work and to recharge my batteries. It's also a time to reflect on many things and to observe the magnificent wild life and scenery that Spain has to offer.
I also make occasional trips out of Spain to go wild camping there too. So if you're ready to lace up your boots and pack your backpack, join me on this journey as we explore the wonders of nature together and discover the true beauty of the great outdoors.

I also touch upon why now and my reasons for wanting to attempt it, as well as how grief has stopped me having a fulfilling life over the last 2 or 3 years and my past experiences of dealing with it.
I also have a little rant about how some bigger outdoor channels just constantly moan about how difficult being a Youtuber is.

Epic!Staying overnight in a secret shelter on the edge of a mountain - One of My Best Camps Ever!Whats Not To Hike2025-06-13 | This week's video, I go camping with my friend Slinky up to the area near Vall de Nuria, in the Pyrenees on the border with France.
We had heard about an unmanned refuge up here, but it was on a forbidden path that led to cliff edge, quite literally.
This refuge doesn't have a name as far as we can tell. This area is where they built the electric pipelines and to do so, built a walkway made out of wooden planks that hug the cliff edge all the way to Vall de nuria, from almost as far away as Coma de vaca.
Our plan was to take this path and stop off at the refuge and then carry onto Coma de vaca for a wildcamp. However, as we climbed higher, the mist came in and so we decided to stay the night at the refuge.
Mountain goats, an abundance of wild life and epic views were all around us and we couldn't have asked for a better spot to stay the night. The mist came in really fast and enveloped us for the evening.
In the morning, we were greeted with a cloud inversion and scenes that will stay long in the memory. Bird sounds echoing through the valley while the mist rose fast through the mountains, it was the perfect morning to rise too.

Just a short video today. I was visiting friends in the nearby town of Sitges, where we were going to watch the F.A Cup final and laugh at the Eurovision Song contest.
I usually take the train over but as it was such a beautiful day, I thought I may as well hike over, which is about 9km in total. You pretty much follow the train track that hugs the coastline all the way until you reach the Terramar hotel and the beautiful town of Sitges.
Is there any better sound in the world than the sound of the sea and waves crashing onto the shore? Summer has definitely arrived here now and lots of beach adventures await! (As well as mountain trips to escape the heat)

Today's video, I head down to my local beach to clear my head which was consumed with way too many thoughts. The sea never fails to ease my mind and clear my head from all the crap that can build up in there, most of it just unnecessary nonsense which can manifest into something else. Depression basically.
I used the @kfconcept black mist / variable ND filter on the osmo pocket 3 to test a few settings out and look for a 'cinematic' feel to the footage. Trial and error really.
It was also an opportunity for me to have a chat with you directly about some ideas for the channel and my plans for the summer, as well as just a relaxed friendly chat about my life. I also managed to fly my drone ( @DJI Mini 3 Pro with a N16 ND Filer) for a few minutes which I think captures the stillness of the early evening just before the sun set.
Please feel free to leave comments or any constructive criticism, as well any ideas or videos you would like me to try and make.

Having experienced some bad weather the last couple of weeks, which meant I had to cancel my wild camp plans, I headed to a campsite with my friend Slinky, as we both just needed to get away for the weekend and so decided to keep it simple and just camp at a campsite that we know well. We would then just have a day hike and a BBQ in the evening and relaxing.
The weather was fantastic and perfect for hiking but at night, it did get below freezing which was ok as we had our warm clothes and winter gear.
This is the town of Aiguafreda, approx one hour and thirty minutes North of Barcelona. Just over an hour on the train and then 20 minutes or so walk to the campsite. It's cheap. it's friendly. It has toilet and wash facilities and there's shops close by to buy your food and drink. This is what we were after, just something easy. Perfect.
Enjoy the video. Martin.

On today's hike, I kept it local but discovered a new part of my local parc, which sits above my town. Although some people do live in the parc, there are an abundance of old farmhouses that have been abandoned and left to ruin. Today I discovered a couple more, so figured it was a nice place to stop and have my lunch and make a nice cup of tea, which didn't go according to plan.
I love these old buildings and love to sit and wonder what the life was like for the people who lived here. If I ever become a millionaire I would love to bring to bring one of these old building back to life and live in it.
Spring has also sprung here and it was 17C today, which for me is perfect hiking weather with a nice, gentle cool breeze to help me along.
I hope you enjoy the video and if you did, please hit that like button and consider becoming a subscriber. Failing that, perhaps tell your friends about it?

This very short video is just a quick test. I recently purchased a Black Mist Filter for the Osmo pocket 3 so wanted to do a quick test. I filmed most footage in DlogM and at 24fps / 1/50 shutter speed. However, If I was to do it again, I would still choose 24fps 1/50 but would film in Normal mode, which is also 10bit. But I do like how it gives the lights that halo effect when filming at night.
The real reason for the mist filter is to use mainly during the day, so i can try and create more of a cinematic look, with less sharpness than the Osmo pocket 3 gives, even with it turned down to -2, the lowest it can go. It's a superb camera and with the latest firmware that just came out, is even better!
I hope to be in the mountains again very soon and will be using this filter again. It's also from Neewer, whose ND filters have magnetic fronts as well as backs, so they can be stacked along with this mist filter, so some more testing and a bit of trial and error will produce some great results.
Thanks for watching.

Back in the mountains soon. #adventure #waterfallsWhats Not To Hike2025-02-12 | On the way to the mountain top near Coma de Vaca, we cane across this place and so we camped there for the night instead. Full video on my channel. Thanks! We were headed somewhere else, then we stumbled upon this place! - Stunning!Whats Not To Hike2025-02-09 | Hello and welcome to What's not to Hike. My name is Martin and I love to Hike, camp and get out and about exploring the mountains and the coast of Spain and beyond!
In this video, my fried Slinky and I stumble upon a small paradise, on the way to Coma de Vaca refuge, which sits high in the Pyrenees.
The initial plan was to go higher up the mountain but as we were slightly delayed by the train, as well as some unpredictable weather but as luck would have it, we found a spot by the river surrounded by hundreds of waterfalls and the mountains above giving us some spectacular sights. We were blown away by the beauty of the place and we will definitely return here in the future and explore more possible spots.
I hope you enjoy watching this video as much as we did visiting the area.
Many thanks, Martin.
*since i returned from this trip I've been really ill and I think it's partly from overnight cold conditions and not sleeping too great*

My name is Martin and I like to film my epic camping and hiking adventures or sometimes just my everyday activities, like walking on my local beach or park.
Today I took a walk along my local beach, as the waves were roaring in and the light and the mist from the sea spray looked pretty spectacular. The rain had not long disappeared also, which meant there were still a few clouds around which were reflecting back the setting sun. Given it was such a beautiful scene, I thought I would bring you along.
I also was feeling like my head was bundled up with too much stuff and couldn't make any order of it all. Planned trips. Things I need to do around the house. Future plans. Usual stuff, but going for a walk, be it a quick short walk or a couple of hours just taking in your surroundings, really helps reset the brain and help put things in order again which in turn removes any anxiety you had beforehand.
By the way, I am still running the competition to win the Nitecore head torch and details of that are in this latest video or you can head over to the competition video here, to enter. youtu.be/tGBWG4uF0vw

My name is Martin and I like to film my adventures or something just my everyday activities.
This short video was taken from my balcony using the Dji Osmo Pocket 3. The plan was to initially head into the mountains for a wild camp but there was a storm forecast where I was planning on going and so the next plan was to head to the beach, just a couple of minutes away, to film the stars, as well as the planets which were all formed in a straight line on this evening, a rather rare and fascinating spectacle.
However, luck would have it that the clouds had rolled in earlier in the day and by the time they had cleared, it was way too late to head to the beach and film, so instead, as I went to bed and hoping that the clouds may clear, I set the pocket 3 up on my balcony and filmed a Motionlapse of the stars, with the tips of the houses opposite lit up from a street lamp out, of shot. Although not the night I had planned, I am still very impressed with how well this pocket 3 performs in these conditions. yes, there was some lighting from the street lamp but even so, to still be able to capture the stars like it did with the artificial light is still pretty impressive. We will see how impressive it can perform next weekend when I am going to the mountains for a winter wild camp. So stay tuned for that adventure!

My name is Martin and I love to Hike, camp and get out and about exploring the mountains and the coast of Spain and beyond!
In this video I head back into Parc del Garraf, my local park which spreads over 12,500 hectacres. It sits approximately 30km south of Barcelona.
Today I hike the six hour round trip to Jafra, a now abandoned village which has records going back to 1138, with it's last residents leaving, and therefore leaving it abandoned, in 1954. Originally inhabited by Barons and mayors, many changes of hands over the years, where eventually it left only 38 residents with the last to leave in 1954.
Legend has it that about a century ago, a family of Austrian origin and with a lot of money, moved to an abandoned farmhouse that was somewhat far from the nearest town, in this case Jafra in Garraf. The children were known to have a skin disease and apparently the parents did not want anyone to see them.
At that time, the father of the family, who was dedicated to medicine, had a garden built so that his children could play, the work was built in 3 years and bore the signature of a renowned architect at the time (Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier) and the garden consisted of a huge labyrinth of trees and shrubs, made exclusively for your children.
The legend begins when the mother gave birth to her fourth daughter, whom they named Melinda. The birth took place inside the Masia and the mother died that night. From there strange events began to happen.
The other children died one by one (it is attributed to the disease they had). The father was very distressed, as only his daughter Melinda was left alive. It is also said that the father poisoned the children with frog soup.
One night in October, six-year-old Melinda fled into the garden, pursued by her completely crazed father. Legend has it that the girl fell into the well in the garden and her whereabouts and her father's whereabouts were never known again.
That is why it is said that in the forests of the Garraf appears the ghost of Melinda, who helps visitors who are lost and shows them the way, to help them escape from the clutches of her evil father.

In this video, I meet up with my friend Slinky and we head to Vall de Nuria, on the Spanish and French Pyrenees border.
Having travelled for three hours, firstly from Home to Ribes de Freser, we then took the mountain train to Vall de Nuria, from where we would hike to Coma de Vaca mountain refuge and stay the night. This hike ended up being far more challenging than the Wikiloc app suggested, at times hanging onto cliff edges with just a steel rope to hold onto.
However, we couldn't have asked for better weather and eventually we made it to the refuge where warm soup followed by beef and rice (and beer and wine) awaited us.
A superb area and an excellent refuge, which also has a winter room to stay in for free, when the refuge is closed. It's very basic with sleeping platforms and a table but certainly a place I will visit again and stay.
Thanks again for watching and please consider subscribing if you're not already. I'm trying to reach 1000 subscribers by Christmas. Thanks!
