[TPC] | Fateless LightningNoire 2016-10-12 | --- all info in description..This is my entry into Round 1 of CapnRaye's "The Prompt Contest." The contest entails creating story-based GMVs based on an assigned theme. For this round, I was assigned the theme "I don't believe in fate." I was immediately excited by my prompt since this is a prominent theme in my favorite game of all time, Final Fantasy XIII. I instantly thought of Lightning for fitting the theme, but as I started searching for music and figuring out a story, Fang slowly crept in and took over and I had no objections lol!Editing for this video came right in the middle of a severe editing block and I was afraid that I wasn't going to be able to finish it in time for the contest's deadline. But, after sitting down each night and chipping away at it, I got more and more done each session, and I think it might have broke my block! CYE | Blood Money LightningNoire 2016-03-21 | .Round One of the CYE contest was to the theme of "Alternate Universe" and I was really excited to work on my entry!I went with a "Film Noir AU," trying to invoke that old, silent movie feel and with all the traditional character tropes of the genre - with a few gender twists here and there for good measure ;PThe story goes that Luna, the head of a private investigating firm, is approached for a job investigating why one Snow Villiers had her client's men killed. Luna sends her best and brightest, Elizabeth, to investigate. She starts at the bar, asking directions from the girl on duty and heading off once she had them. Unbeknownst to her, the bartender's friend overhears the conversation. Elizabeth finds Snow and is confronted by the man at the bar, who accuses her of being a spy. Snow grows furious and paranoid, insisting that Elizabeth tell him what secrets of his he's uncovered. Elizabeth is bewildered and left at the mercy of Noctis, Snow's loyal enforcer. While the two men are distracted, one Tifa Lockhart cultivates evidence on Snow's nefarious business dealings on behalf of a rival gangster. Once the blackmail is in Vergil's hands, he returns to Luna and she confronts him, hating that he used her colleague as if she were a sheep, and her office as if it were a slaughterhouse. Vergil insists that Luna has gained a powerful ally for her service, worth the expense of losing Elizabeth who dies at the hands of Snow's hitman for what they suspected her of. Luna has no choice but to find a way to live with her friend's death.Didn't turn out quite as perfectly as I was hoping for and the story changed about a thousand times during the editing of this but, I hope you all enjoy it! YPIV | Not Over til We Say So LightningNoire 2016-02-20 | --- i'll bring an army with me..Oh my God. OH my GOD, it’s DONE! It’s finally, FINALLY done! I might throw up, oh my god, I can’t believe I finished it!! I ran into more points than I care to admit where I thought “there’s no way in hell I can do this, there’s just no way.” BUT, once I took a shotgun to the quitter talk, I made it! Hip hip hooray!I threw everything I had into this – which, admittedly, is not much – and I think all that screaming and hair-tearing and smashing at my computer paid off! There are some parts that turned out better than others, but, overall, this was probably the most challenging thing I’ve ever made myself do and I’m proud of it! I tried to give each part something that distinguished it from the others, while also making sure every part conformed to the whole, which now that I say it sounds friggin’ IMPOSSIBLE so, no wonder I wanted to crawl into a hole and die at times over this :PWhen I first started this, it was to celebrate 400 subscribers. MEP | Dust or Gold LightningNoire 2015-02-12 | --- remember me for centuries..This project is dedicated to the GMV community, a section of the fan-vidding community that many have recognized as suffering in the last few years. Old wounds, busy lives, and all manner of other afflictions have seen a downward spike in content from the game editors. This project was an inspired effort to remind the community that we're still here and to not give up! 2015 is going to be our year, editors! Already, new studios are starting to pop up, auditions for old groups are opening again, and more uploads are slowly starting to crawl out into the public. Let's keep at it and stay alive!Lastly, I learned an important lesson from this project that I think we could all benefit from: Be helpful, not hateful. RWBY | Starting Fires LightningNoire 2015-02-07 | --- our lives are burning gold..I wasn't sure that I should do this because, in my head, it just seemed insensitive to make a video in lieu of crying over such a sudden and tragic loss. I didn't know the man, obviously, and I didn't know of him until very late in his career. Regardless, we did all know him because we know creativity and we know enthusiasm. It doesn't take a handshake and a hello to know a person anymore. When you put everything about yourself into something that you're passionate about, you're giving us a window into your heart.Even if I'd only followed one of Monty's many projects, I knew who he was just by the passionate attention to detail he put into animating RWBY. And another thing I knew was that Monty loved to dance. So, I thought I'd try and make something that Monty would have made: something fun. FFXIII | The Pain of Yesterday LightningNoire 2014-12-31 | --- my kingdom awaits..Although I made this over the summer for an event on tumblr so, it technically doesn't count, I wanted this to be the last "upload" on my channel for 2014.It's meant as a farewell to Lightning and the XIII saga and a thank you to the people that worked on them for creating such an inspiring story for those of us that needed it.If I want to remember anything out of 2014, it's how playing the end of LR made me feel: heartbroken that the story was over, yet hopeful for things that are to come. The final scene of Lightning stepping into the new world was one of the most encouraging moments towards greeting the future I've had, so I made this in tribute of that.The past is past, but the lessons remain, and I want to take what this series has taught me into 2015 to challenge my own future. I started a survivalist’s journal.Anywho, 2014 was a big year, apparently! I didn’t realize how busy I had kept myself until I put this thing together! FFXIII | A Tale of Two Sisters LightningNoire 2014-11-01 | --- i'll find you... somewhere..It's done.Oh my god.IT'S DONE.It feels so, unbelievably satisfying to have this out of my in-progress folder and into my complete pile. Holy shit, this has been sitting, undone, getting on-and-off attention, since... last year? I am SO HAPPY to have finished it!Okay, so it's been done for about a week now, and I'm actually really, super proud of it. And I was terrified of actually uploading it just because I was so proud of it. Terrified for various reasons - what if YT fucks up the quality; what if it blocks the song; what if this; what if that. So, I've been clutching it to my chest like a stress pillow for a bit but, now that October's over and so are all my life's distractions, I summoned up the courage to set it free.Fly, little video! Go out into the world~To conclude, this is the direct result of my not being able to come to terms with the fact that the XIII saga is over. And Farron feels ;_;(For theGMVAwards Canon Justification: Rather than try encompassing the vast whole of Lightning and Serah's relationship, I decided to draw on one characteristic they share, and attempt to magnify it. And I chose that focus to be their determination towards finding each other in XIII & XIII-2. If any aspect of their relationship totally defines the two of them, I think it would be that. Despite all the grief Lightning gives Serah about being a l'Cie, and regardless of all the doubts Serah might have had in herself prior to meeting Noel and going into the Historia Crux, their devotion to each other gives them the strength to move past their insecurities and save one another. They're each others only family and their resolve towards being together again is unquestionable by anyone. None of the other characters dare to tell them it's a fruitless effort, because it's just a universal fact that they WILL find each other. In their minds, there is no "maybe." They will find each other, no matter if it takes tearing down a planet or shattering Heaven to do so.That's what I tried to convey in this video, paralleling both Light and Serah's journeys in each game towards reuniting. ICT | Secret Ghost LightningNoire 2014-02-23 | --- stories are the flames that kindle our thoughts and actions..[READ DESCRIPTION AFTER WATCHING -- SPOILERS FOR THE STORY]This is my entry for Round 3 of the Invisible Cities Tournament: http://www.youtube.com/user/CityInvisibiliThis round was called "Wordsmith," where we were asked to choose three terms from a given list, and create a story around them. My words worked as follows:"Ghost": Lightning wakes up having found herself fallen into the afterlife, where she meets a god of death that makes her an offer to find out how she died. He takes her back to the world of the living, where she walks as a phantom in the shadow of her sister, watching her mourn for her death.Additionally, Lightning's idea of Serah can also be considered a "ghost." She only recalls the facets of her sister that embody her innocence and not the ones which expose the darkness within her. She suppresses the true circumstances of her death and holds onto a memory of Serah that doesn't exist to deny it."Ignorance Is Bliss": (I was torn between this and "The Truth Hurts" but, this one seemed more profound in relation to my story.) Lightning is quick to suspect that Snow is her murderer. The immediacy of her assumption is pointed out by Genesis, as if in an attempt to persuade her otherwise. Beneath the memory of her death which she has suppressed, Lightning does know that it's her sister who has betrayed her but, she desires more than anything for it not to be true. Instead of believing the truth, she tries to pursue every other avenue in an effort to keep the truth at bay."Loved Despite the Flaws": In the end, Lightning can't hate her sister for what she's done and Serah never truly hated her for what she tried to do. The guilt had always eaten away at the younger of the sisters and there was nothing she wanted more than to take back what she'd done. When Genesis asks Lightning if she could forgive her sister, she replies with unquestionable certainty, knowing that they both made their mistakes after their parents died. They were under impossible circumstances, both trying to cope and both getting hurt in the process. But, if not forgiving her meant that they couldn't be together in death to make up for the flaws in life, Lightning could never say she didn't love her.Notes: Ultimately, I wanted to do a story that had no villain and just do a story about regular people trying to make due under irregular circumstances. I also wanted to stay in the same vein of psych suspense/mystery/horror because that's just what I love to do the most. I had so much fun working on the multiple personality AU with Noctis and Aqua and I ALMOST started a continuation of that for the wordsmith challenge but, it felt like it ended in the collab and I didn't want to risk messing with it. So, this happened instead.I'm on the fence myself about how it turned out, but it is what it is. I'm just happy I finished it in time -- I was having my doubts for a second there. Did a lot of experimenting with what I could do masking-wise and although it was difficult, I think I'm just starting to get the hang of how to work with what my program has to offer.
