Jak II - PS2 vs PS3 vs PC Graphics Comparison

DonkeyPlanet 2023-11-03 | I'm comparing Jak II PS2 and PS3 console releases to OpenGOAL on PC.

If there are some differences in weather or time conditions, it's because I can't control the weather and the fog on PS2 and PS3.
So you may see some examples of fog present in one scene, but not in the other.

There is a massive difference in resolution since the original PS2 release was only 480p. Compared to that, we have 27x the resolution today on PCs.
I hope you enjoy the comparisons.

Console footage was recorded with an AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.
I used component cables to record video from PS2 and PS3.
Video edited using DaVinci Resolve.

Jak and Daxter - Size comparison

DonkeyPlanet 2023-04-05 | With OpenGOAL, we have access to all the 3D models from Jak and Daxter.
I imported them into Blender and sorted most of the characters by height.
It's worth mentioning that I excluded limbs from some characters' heights, for example, the plant boss where I calculated from its head.
In other cases, like Samos, he has a log on his head so I added that to his height.
So if you see some strange sizes, this would explain it...

I'm planning to make a size comparison video about Jak II as well.
The 3D model exporter from Jak and Daxter is made by water111.

PCSX2 vs. RPCS3: Jak and Daxter

DonkeyPlanet 2021-06-06 | In this video, I'm comparing Jak and Daxter running on PCSX2 vs. RPCS3.
PCSX2 is a PS2 emulator, Jak and Daxter originally released for PS2.
Later, in 2013 they released Jak and Daxter HD collection for PS3, so I can play it now on my PC using RPCS3, PS3 emulator.

Both emulator rendering resolution is set to 1920 x 1080!
RPCS3 is running a bit slower, it's a very complex CPU demanding emulator.
PCSX2 running fine on my config, but the emulator has problems with interlacing or motion blur because the PCSX2 was so much blurrier in motion.

I used the latest version of RPCS3 and PCSX2 on my PC:
i5 4570S
8GB ram
GTX 750Ti

I recorded scenes from every Naughty Dog game starting with Crash Bandicoots on PS1 from 1994, then I compared the graphics in this video.
I tried to capture games from the original hardware, but since I don't have a PS1, I had to use PS3 with the built-in PS1 emulator.
PS4 games were running on a base PS4.
(No PS5 or PS4 Pro with higher resolution)
All other games were captured directly from a PS2, PS3, or PS4 with AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.
Footage edited in Black Magic's DaVinci Resolve (free version).
Uncharted The Lost Legacy was not featured in this video, because I don't own the game right now, but it's graphics identical to Uncharted 4.

•So I activated debug mode in the E3 Demo Jak II and I managed to load the city properly, so I don't have to worry about freezes and loading the levels manually in Cheat Engine.
