Yes, August is over, but it's still just as hot (at least here), so a little chill down your spine might feel good...Or - just think of it as a very early Halloween video ππ If you're new to my August Chills videos - welcome! This is my take of a Japanese tradition of telling ghost stories in the summer to cool down. I choose ghost/horror stories and make some art inspired by them. The videos share the story and the making process. This year I ended up only doing one story, because it inspire 3 collage works - whoops? lol. I took up a true classic: Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, first published in 1843. Mini Haunted Mansion livestream #41: a library for the study Peculiaris 2022-01-28 | This week we moved to the study to build some nice shelving to cover one wall. Mini Haunted Mansion livestream #40: peeling walls in the bathroom Peculiaris 2022-01-21 | This week we continue working on the bathroom and make the walls. I'm using a technique for peeled paint effect that I learned from @AbandonedMiniatures, if you like old buildings and moody miniatures you should definitely check out his channel, he makes amazing dioramas of abandoned places (and more), mostly meant for photography, it's AWESOMEHere's a video where he shows the peeled walls technique: youtube.com/watch?v=IYTMuluZkdE&t=97sI modified some things, mostly because I'm working in a very small scale (let's just call it tiny scale, shall we?). Here's what I used:- Tim Holtz Distress acrylic paints: forest moss, speckled egg, antique linen, picket fence- Talens liquid masking fluid for watercolor (but any other masking fluid should work)- Brayer (I used Tim Holtz's mini brayer)That's basically all you need for beautiful peeling walls! I used some of the dies from the Tim Holtz village collection to get an arched shape, that goes nicely with the arched windows and doors in the house. I originally planned on a pretty damask pattern in cream and white, but afterwards decided it's a little too subdued and changed to the peacock pattern you see in the thumbnail. Mini Haunted Mansion, day 21: Victorian iron wrought stove (2) Peculiaris 2021-10-22 | After building the oven, it's time to paint it! I used dark metallic grey (Amsterdam's acrylic graphite) for the oven with some silver wax for highlights and black acrylic for shading. For the bricks I did some ocher and reddish-brown dry brushing over a black gesso base. Mini Haunted Mansion, day 16: tiny picture frames (2) Peculiaris 2021-10-17 | In this stream I looked at another technique for making fancy picture frames, this time using clay. It's a simple technique that gives great results, and quick too! You can definitely use it for larger pictures, but I think that the teeny-tiny one I made would look great in 1:24 and even 1:12 scale too. Mini Haunted Mansion, day 14: FIREPLACE! But tiny Peculiaris 2021-10-15 | We've finally reached our very first piece of furniture - woohoo! Today I'm making a mini fireplace for the entrance hall, I'm using a pattern designed by the amazing Ara of Bentley House Minis. She shared this pattern a while back and very kindly allowed me to show it and use it in this live stream - Thanks Ara!
