Specifically I'm looking at the stories found in his first collection, Dark Carnival.
Today's story is a melancholy one. The story focuses on a young man named Harold and his recollection of a traumatic experience from his childhood about his friend Tally. In the video I discuss the plot (with spoilers, so make sure you read the story if that's a concern!), talk about my thoughts on it, and share some other writing that discusses the story.
This is a definitive story by Ray Bradbury, and it's hard to believe he was only 22 years old when he wrote it. If you've read the story, comment below and we can continue to conversation there!

#booktube #victorian #readingwrapupBoo Trundle: The Healing Power of Writing Your Truth | The Bookshelf Odyssey PodcastArt @ Bookshelf Odyssey2024-03-07 | My guest today is the author Boo Trundle, who has written one of the most interesting and captivating novels I've ever read. "The Daughter Ship" is a very personal novel that tells of one woman's journey to find healing. The story focuses on Katherine, a wife and mother who is struggling on the brink of despair. Helping to tell her story are "Truitt, Star, and Smooshed Bug—her inner children, each with their particular strategy for coping with Katherine’s past at the hands of a hopeless mother and a terrifying, seductive father. Several of her female ancestors, Confederate widows and their daughters, who’ve imposed a legacy of racism and damage on her bloodline, also join the telling. The assembled ghosts and contenders for Katherine’s ear are gathered in a rusting WWII submarine off the coast of Virginia Beach where the truth of her life is, quite literally, submerged. Will they surface with it? Will they protect her from it, or deliver it to her?"
In our conversation we talk about our favorite authors (Charles Dickens and Jane Austen?! Did we just become best friends?), her writing journey, the importance of laughing in the face of rejection, and writing tips.
Head over to bootrundle.com to find out about her, order book, and more.

STAR TREK: VOYAGER TAG PROMPTS
1 — THE USS VOYAGER is equipped with bio-neural gel-packs that are often more trouble than they’re worth. Do you suffer from any kind of allergies?
2 — CAPTAIN JANEWAY is a terrific starship captain who sometimes doesn’t know when to back off. Do you share this trait? Can you ever lose focus and need to be pulled away from something?
3 — FIRST OFFICER CHAKOTAY returns to Starfleet from the terrorist Maquis. How readily would the friends of your youth recognize you today?
4 — LIEUTENANT TUVOK’s precise age is a source of speculation on Voyager. Do you feel like your chronological age? Younger? Older?
5 — CHIEF ENGINEER B’ELANNA TORRES is half-Klingon and half-wimp. Does your own nature contain any radically different elements that you somehow keep aligned?
6 — TOM PARIS is Voyager’s dauntless pilot. What’s the largest mechanical object you’ve ever piloted?
7 — NEELIX, Voyager’s cook and morale officer, once said, “It’s nice to be nice.” Are you nice? Just in general?
8 — SEVEN OF NINE is a recovered Borg drone who finds a new family on Voyager. What are your thoughts on the concept of ‘found family’? How close are your friends to family?
9 — ENSIGN HARRY KIM is perpetually awestruck and dumbfounded (except in “Timeless”!). How annoying are you?
10 — AMELIA EARHART was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Have you ever met a famous person? If not, have you ever come close?
