Diamond Oak End Table DIY Home & Garden Projects 2023-07-29 | White Oak has such nice grain. I had completed a prior build and had several wedge pieces left over. I thought that there might be something I could build with the offcuts. After several months, I knew that a table top would be the perfect build for the white oak. It was just a matter of what size and shape it would take. Would it be rectangle or round, all were considered. Square ending up the best choice. I took each two wedge pieces and glued a piece of walnut veneer between them to make a small rectangle .hen repeated this 71 more times. Red Oak Alter table DIY Home & Garden Projects 2022-03-06 | We build an Alter table for the church. A member had a neighbor cutting down a red oak tree, we got the tree, took it to a sawyer, had it dried, and then starter on the table. The challenge building this table was the honeycombing in the wood. Because it was dried too fast, the wood split internally. You don't find this out until you mill the lumber. So we elected to use the lumber after we used epoxy to fill the gaps and cracks in the wood. 7 foot Bar Table made with Pecan wood DIY Home & Garden Projects 2021-11-25 | I begin with milling the lumber from a pecan tree. The tree had been on the ground for two years before we milled it. I wanted to get a beam style, size of lumber to build a bar top. After cutting the slab to approximate size, we left it to dry for over a year. Then I moved it from Oak Hill Ranch to Dallas. Because of the size, I took it to a shop to be jointed and planned. This piece had a few bugs still in it. After ridding of the insects, I filled the holes with my Knottec knot filler. Then finished with Rock Hard Table top varnish. Jet Cyclonic Separator DIY Home & Garden Projects 2021-09-30 | Every shop gets to the stage when they need better dust collection. How you solve this issue is different for each woodworker. But, I found a way that helps A LOT!!! If you are having to emptying your dust bin too often, a larger container will help. In my home shop, a larger collection barrel worked fine, but at our church shop the Jet Cyclonic Separator was the answer. This gave us the ability to separate the larger sawdust particles from the smaller dust. In this video I go through each step to create a wonderful and unique board. Each board, because if the inserted pieces, is different. While Drew Fisher of Fisher's Shop used just curved inserts, I one upped him and used curved and straight pieces. And to top it off, I added round 3/8 inch inserts from different exotic woods. Pecan End Table with Beading DIY Home & Garden Projects 2021-05-31 | Typically I just read Fine Woodworking magazine. But, the April issue had me inspired to actually build one of their projects. I liked the beading that was added to a table apron. I liked it so much that I decided to make a table with that feature. I started with the table top, I had a nice piece of pecan with great figure. I wanted to connect the top and table carcass since they would be different woods. I added a bead of wenge to the bottom lip of the table top. Then I went on the add a second beading around the table apron, just like they did in "Fine Woodworking Magazine". Easy DIY Tip to clean a faucet head. Cleaning the aerator is the key to getting your faucet running full flow. Grab a few small balloons and 'CLR" remover from you local hardware store. Put the CLR into the balloon, put the bolloon over the faucet head and slide the balloon up until the CLR cover the end of the faucet. Let it set overnight, remove and the remove the faucet aerator from the faucet, clean and replace. That all there is to this quick fix for faucets that have a slow flow rate.
Making a Tongue Drum DIY Home & Garden Projects 2020-12-24 | A Tongue Drum or slit drum is a hollow percussion instrument. In spite of the name, it is not a true drum but an idiophone, usually carved or constructed from bamboo or wood into a box with one or more slits in the top. If the tongues are different width or thicknesses, the drum will produce different pitches. It is used throughout Africa, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. In Africa such drums, strategically situated for optimal acoustic transmission and have been used for long-distance communication.The ends of a slit drum are closed so that the shell becomes the resonating chamber for the sound vibrations created when the tongues are struck. The resonating chamber increases the volume of the sound produced by the tongue and presents the sound through an open port. If the resonating chamber is the correct size for the pitch being produced by the tongue, which means it has the correct volume of airspace to complete one full sound wave for that particular pitch, the instrument will be more efficient and louder.The length of the tongues is the most important item in creating different notes. Tuning the tongues is done from the underside. Removing a bit of the tongue with a drill bit from the base of the tongue will lower the pitch, removing material from the tip will raise the pitch. This step will take the longest, as each tongue must be tuned. Review of Knottec Wood Filler and Cheap Glue Mat. DIY Home & Garden Projects 2020-11-28 | A Cheap glue mat is a good thing. All of us do glues ups. and they can make a mess. Having the right process to handle the glue squeeze out, is helpful for an easy clean up. I looked and searched for a less costly glue mat, as $25 to $28 (on sale) at the Woodworking stores was too much.
