The stages with higher bottom blastzones (listed at the end of the video) might not let you jump before your airdodge ends, which is why Inkling can SD on Town & City even though they can make it back on Battlefield.
The 4.0 patch dropped between recording sessions, which added percents to the custom stage testing screen. That's why you don't see percents for some characters and do for others. I think I got everyone whose recovery was buffed in 4.0.

This is a proof of concept of something I've been working on for a little while: Scripting!
I've set up a system of programs that, when put together, massively speed up my ability to create TASes. I can now write scripts that pass virtual controller presses to Dolphin; this lets me rapidly change things and removes the inconsistency that comes with manually inputting commands myself.
I'd like to do a full writeup, but I'm not sure if I have the time. For now, here's a brief overview of the process.
The programs I'm using are:
Dolphin 4.0-9410 (the best Dolphin for TASing, in my opinion) AutoHotkey (scripting language) evilC's AHK-CvJoyInterface (a library for Autohotkey that lets me use virtual controllers) x360ce (to map these virtual controllers like GameCube Controllers) lifning's Padpyght (for the input mapping you see on screen) ffmpeg (for audio and video conversion things) ms4v's GameCube adapter driver (to use my physical GameCube controller with the input mapping)
Here's how it works:
1) I use Autohotkey, CvJoyInterface, and a script that I wrote, to set up four generic virtual controllers. 2) I use x360ce and Dolphin to turn the generic virtual controllers into virtual GameCube controllers 3) I write another script, custom to this video, to map out every button press in the video, from start to finish. 4) I turn on Padpyght and run the script, which passes the inputs to Dolphin in slow motion. I also run OBS at the same time, which records the Padpyght window. (This step is temporary; I should replace it with Avisynth soon, because this way doesn't show all of the inputs in the final video) 5) I save the Dolphin input file, then run it back into Dolphin to record the resulting video 6) I perform bunch of uninteresting conversions using ffmpeg to cut down file sizes and convert the video files into more usable forms 7) I splice everything together in a video editor so it's good to publishSSBM Break The Targets [TAS]: Yoshi [6.80] [Former WR]Practical TAS2016-12-11 | Beaten by tauKhan in 2021 (6.52!!): youtube.com/watch?v=-IogodD3ggY
This is an optimization of AJP Anton's fantastic strat, and it saves 1 frame. He deserves all the credit. See it here: youtube.com/watch?v=jl890Imft-E
Difference between my run and his:
After 5, Anton drifts right to land 1 frame earlier than I do, but the fact that I'm further to the left means that 1. I don't need to dash before wavedashing, immediately saving the frame I lost, and 2. I'm still further to the left than he is, so I need to dash for 1 less frame before 7.

Differences between my run and his: 5: Bair has 1 less frame of hitlag than the late hit of nair, but due to ECB manipulation requires you to land further to right. This additional distance prevents you from being able to connect with 7 on the same frame using the late hit of nair. Net -1 frames. 7: Uair has 1 more frame of hitlag than the late hit of nair, but ECB manipulation causes you to land 1 frame earlier. Net 0 frames.
Total: -1 frames.
As of the creation of this video, the realtime record is 7.26 by sockdude1: youtube.com/watch?v=dgtCWH4N6jMFalcon Knee Only HRC [TAS] [291.0 ft] [WR?] (Default and Fixed Views)Practical TAS2016-12-07 | I'm doing this only because Reddit asked.
NOTE: running the slo-mo part at 2x speed shows you what the run looks like from the default camera view.
This run is 2 frames faster than AJP Anton's old record, which he set in 2007 (!) using an Action Replay (!!) and Melee's debug mode (!!!) youtube.com/watch?v=xsoprMkYd_g
(Just to put that into perspective, this record had stood since before I joined the competitive Smash community)
The optimizations are: * the ECB manipulation dair autocancel at the start of the run, which gets Yoshi actionable on the upper level 1 frame faster * perfectly spacing the nair on target 7 to delay hitting until the weak hit (which has 1 less frame of hitlag) becomes active
Also note that the action states displayed are 1 frame later than they would appear in debug mode.SSBM Break The Targets [TAS]: Mewtwo [3.67] [WR]Practical TAS2016-11-27 | Please read the description :)
This run is 1 frame faster than lpzampa's old record, using a strategy that was created by sockdude: youtube.com/watch?v=wHzkrva4Nfk The optimization is found at target 5. I was able to move slightly closer to the burner when hitting the target, which let me connect with the burner 1 frame sooner. I wasn't able to go another frame faster without missing target 5.
This run requires you to perform the Hazard Invincibility Glitch before starting. The glitch is activated by entering Adventure Mode, going to the Yoshi Team in the Mushroom Kingdom, and dying. When active, the glitch prevents you from becoming invincible upon contact with stage hazards, which allows you to hit the burner after target 9 faster (otherwise, you're still invincible when you come in contact with it).
At 1.46 on the in-game clock, I perform a double jump to the left, then the shallowest possible waveland to the right on the next frame.
With optimal spacing at maximum speed, target 7 empirically has a 70% (350/500) chance of being hit by shadow ball.Falcon Nair Only HRC (377.9 ft NTSC) (TAS WR)Practical TAS2016-11-13 | With perfect spacing, you can phantom hit and full hit with the same hitbox. Melee's a very unforgiving game: all it takes is a single missed input for you to self-destruct (SD) or even a lose a game. Even the best players get nerves on the big stage, and they're not immune to inopportune SDs. Sometimes you have to work around an SD and sometimes you just have to accept it...but every so often, a self-destruct is exactly the right option.
This video is tool-assisted: it was created by advancing the game one frame at a time and performing every input exactly as desired, then playing back the same input stream at 60 fps.
I tried so hard to replicate Zampa's old strategy of bouncing the bomb off the arrow (youtube.com/watch?v=ej6c2VVoHuw) but absolutely could not get the right bounce. I got so fed up that I decided to do it a different way, and the end result tied his record.
I think the input and physics displays are behind by a frame, maybe 2. Dolphin is dumb.
The first number at the bottom is Link's x-coordinate. See how it pauses at 4.94 when Link lands around 0:03? I would've needed to land at 4.5 or less (that is, a tiny bit more to the left) at the same time in order to get a time of 3.45 seconds.
