Making birch tree soap with landscape SNIF Natural Soapmaking 2022-01-15 | In this video we demonstrate how we made a custom soap order for the Deprey Classic Ski Race that takes place annually in Maine. The skiers race through beautiful trails with birches and all manner of trees. We first make the tree embeds and then make a second batch and implement the tree into the landscape. This was a larger batch that made 60 bars so we had to work quickly and forgo some design detail aspects and opt for a generally less detailed landscape. Stamp was made by a friend of mine that owns a 3D printer.Blue color was achieved with indigo premixed in sunflower oil and color as desired. Making Soap with..... Fiddleheads?! Goat Milk and fiddlehead soap SNIF Natural Soapmaking 2021-06-08 | Hi! My name is Julie, and in this video, we make soap with blanched, dehydrated fiddleheads. Fiddleheads are a wild fern that grows locally and is the "rage" to consume in season. We usually have an excess, so we blanched the extra and dehydrated it, to be able to add to soups, smoothies and, you guessed it, SOAP. It adds a nice freckled color and just a little bit of exfoliation. Please follow all safety precautions when making soap. This is a basic tutorial only and does not cover basic safety protocols. I added about 1/3 of a cup of dehydrated fiddlehead powder to a 12 pound batch of soap.

Pine Tar Soap: RECIPE included! Easier than you might think! SNIF Natural Soapmaking 2021-02-26 | In this video we make a 4 pound batch of pine tar soap which is said to be gentle on the skin, especially for those with skin sensitivities. I used ingredients that are also fairly gentle, yet cleansing and so nice for skin. This tutorial is geared for those who understand the basics of soap making and is geared towards moderately experienced soap makers. Basic Pine Tar Soap (30% water, 6% superfat):12.8 oz coconut oil (20%)38.4oz organic lard (60%)6.4oz olive oil (I infused calendula into mine-optional) (10%)6.4 oz pine tar (10%)water 19.2 ozlye (NaOH) 8.37I like to keep my pine tar soap unscented, but you could definitely scent it with what you would prefer. Goat Milk Variation Pine Tar Soap (milk in oil method)All oils same as above except add 9oz of goat milk to oils. Lye amount is the same, but you dissolve lye in 10.2oz of water rather than 19.2. Please ask if you have questions!Always run any soap recipe through a soap calculator, including the recipe above. Always follow safety precautions when making soap. I find lard, and calendula infused olive oil are both really gentle and creamy for skin. The coconut oil is at 20% and helps induce a lather as the pine tar seems to decrease lathering capabilities. You will get oranges and I have seen some people get reds. Indigo - Blues Indigo is very strong, and you do not need much to get colors.Alkanet Root - Purples for best results is to make sure your batch goes through gel stage.Annatto Seeds - You can sometimes find this as health food stores. YOu can also use the entire seed to infuse.Himalayan Rhubarb - Hot Pinks - You do not want to shake the bottles before using this. You want the top yellow oil.When using infusions, do not shake the bottle before use. Use the top oils. Fill your glass containers 20-35% full of plant materials and the rest with a light colors liquid oil. The first few weeks, shake your bottles once a day. Some infusions can be used with in 14 days, but may be weak. I like to infuse 4-8 weeks. I make them and leave them in a dark cupboard. Plant colors will fade more that synthetic colors. Best to store finished bars in a cool dark place.

This is not the standard size for tall and skinny molds but this works for me. Cold oil infusions - Colors are (Purple) Alkanet Root cold oil infusion, (Pink) Rhubarb Root Cold oil infusion, (Yellow) Annatto seed Cold oil infusion, White is the no color, (Blue) is Woad cold oil infusion, (Orange) Paprika cold oil infusion, (Dark Blue) Indigo Cold oil infusion. Im using 20g of each color of infusion in a 3.33lb mold.Subtract your olive oil from your main batch of what you used in infusion.Mix to light medium trace and pour each color down the side of the wall of the mold. Prop your mold up one side using a bar of soap, or whatever you have laying around the house. This batch is gelled, using CPOP. It really brings out my colors. I also clean each bar up with using a soap planer beveler.

Linear swirl down center after Taiwan swirl. Cold process & Natural colors by Chass WF SNIF Natural Soapmaking 2020-12-26 | My Rhubarb oil infusion is a new one, and I did not get the hot pink like normal. Its more of an orange color. I filled each containers with oil infusions, and subtracted the amount used from the main batch. My other colors are charcoal, Indigo, Alkanet, and Moringa powder. I did soap at a low temp. causing steric spots in the center cuts.

I have 7 different colors counting the white. (Rhubarb, Paprika, Charcoal, Indigo, Alkanet Root, Moringa Powder, White) I'm pouring down the side of the wall in 3 sections to fit all the colors inside.To use multicolor oil infusions, Pour 20-40g of color per pound oil into even containers. Subtract the oils used from your olive oils main batch. Fill each container evenly.Using a Candy apple stick, swirl back and forth, after pulling out the dividers. Then circle the side of the mold. Essential oils are Lemon 5x, from New Directions, Orange 10x and Lavandin from Liberty Natural oils. I get the containers from Dollar Tree. They are all the same size.I Cold processed, oven Processed. I place colors mold inside oven about 20 minutes at 170 F. Shut off and wait for it to gell. This batch did get pretty hot causing a start of glycerin river.To cut these bars, you will make blocks and then the block in half vertical. I like to bevel my edges on each bar. You can find cheap planer bevelers on Amazon, Etsy, and Ebay.

It is a 12 pound batch of soap that results in an intricate design with less effort and time involved. The recipe is comprised of 55% hard oils/butters and 45% soft oils. It has a 30% water discount, a 7% superfat and we soaped at room temperature. Essential oils include lemon 5x and lemongrass. One half cup of lemon juice was also added to the oils. It is colored yellow with turmeric. Turmeric must be gelled to get the yellow color; otherwise, it will result in a peach type color.
