I'm so happy with how this halloween costume design is turning out - fire glass is such a fun material to work with, inexpensive, and looks so much like gems when it's embedded in resin! This was a perfect project to try out our new @elegoo resin printer, washer, and curer, and the curing chamber doubled up as an easy way to set the gemstone UV resin as well.
Once the resin frame was printed, the tricky part was adding the gems on a curved, hollow surface since I'll be adding some LEDs later. I went through a couple ideas including using a temporary clay backing or silicone, but in the end, plain old tape was the simplest way to do this without investing in new materials. Resin doesn't stick to tape, and so this peeled easily off once finished, provided you work slow and careful. Love how this weird little diy cosplay fashion project is turning out so far! What shoes do I wear under my cosplay gowns? #cosplay #loki #diy #halloweenCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2023-10-11 | What shoes are under my Loki gown! Our hidden heel sneakers of course!! They may not be historically accurate for this costume, but they're comfy, can be worn all day, and give you that same covered height of high heels when wearing big gowns like this for cosplay or halloween! My pair has lasted me going on six years, and while it's not available on eBay any longer, you can find some of your own by searching for "hidden heel" or "platform sneakers". Look for pairs that include a 1" or larger platform as well for the best comfort! Our Rococo Loki gown isnt accurate?? #cosplay #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2023-10-05 | What do you mean our Rococo Loki gown isn't "accurate"?? π±π
When DIYing your own design like this, always remember that cosplay is not the same thing as a historical recreation! You're free to choose the shape and construction you like, even if it's not "accurate" - it's just a costume! In Loki's case, we smashed together lots of different 18th century elements, from the robe a la francaise corset and hoops, to the Italian Gown / Anglaise bodice, to the very unrealistic en retrousse bustled train. While accuracy isn't important, research is - we always recommend learning first about traditional methods and shapes. Having that knowledge will help you understand what elements you want to use, and where you can break the rules! How much can fit in my secret pockets?? #cosplay #diy #sewingCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2023-09-29 | Can we fit an entire cosplay repair station under this dress? π± These little guys are called pocket hoops - they're historically accurate, accessible while wearing your gown, and SO convenient if you're the kind of cosplayer who always wants to carry more with you! Grand panniers may be a bit bigger, but when we're DIYing our own handmade corset and hoops, the convenience of these really can't be beat!

This giant mold has 14 pour spouts, so that each semi-transparent layer could be poured without any splashes or runs. Every single layer was partially cured before the next pour, in order to create a nice, flat line while also bonding tightly to the next layer. I'm also very proud of the little triangular pop-out, which is what made it easy to set the whole mold up at an angle for tilted stripes! All in all, this took about a week of intense work, plus a sixteen hour resin-pouring extravaganza! π¦The Peppermint Sword: perfect for the holidays π¬ Cosplay #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-12-21 | I love this fun little holiday version of Princess Bubblegum!! This candy sword is made from perfectly level, transparent layers of resin, and is one of my favorite (and the hardest!) cosplay pieces we've ever made!Making Princess Bubblegums Iconography Gown | Pt 3 #cosplay #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-11-06 | Part of 3 making my Princess Bubblegum iconography gown design - check back for the next part!
Smocking was by far the most time consuming part of this stage - I ended up lattice smocking fifteen yards of fabric, bringing it into work and working on it during my lunch break every day for weeks. I ended up not liking my original skirt trim design very much, so I tweaked it a little bit to make these smocking "windows" out of some flipped lace fabric!Making Princess Bubblegums Iconography Gown | Pt 2 #cosplay #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-11-04 | Part 2 of creating Princess Bubblegum's iconography gown! More coming in part 3!
I did so much research when trying to decide on the ultimate battle: Real Candy vs Fake Candy. On the one hand, real candy is so realistic, but on the other, I didn't want to create something that was going to break or yellow in a few months! In the end, I sealed the candy in a two step process. First, all the candy was sealed with several coats of clear acrylic spray, in order to create a water barrier. After this I sealed the pieces in a clear resin, which strengthened the piece and also will keep any other environmental variables out. The candy itself is also mostly hard, non-perishable or preserved types that would last for decades by itself anyway, so I think this crown will last for a long time!Making Princess Bubblegums Iconography Gown | Pt 1 #cosplay #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-11-03 | Part 1 of creating my original iconography gown design for Princess Bubblegum! Check back for the rest of this series!
Bubblegum's baroque candy people sculpture was the main thing this gown was designed around, so we put a lot of thought into the materials, attachments, and how to get as much detail as possible out of it!
We went back and forth for a while between casting materials, but in the end we ended up sculpting it out of clay, casting in Featherlite Resin from Smooth-On, and then covering the entire thing in gold leaf. This kept it pretty lightweight, but also meant we got more details and a smoother surface than some foam can provide. Attaching it was a little tough, but my favorite trick for things like this is to sew worbla to your fabric piece, and then use those pieces as glue supports for the larger hard object.Whats my reward for filming my Dunkin Knight Costume? #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-31 | A true story. :) More Dunkin Knight on my channel! How I Get Dressed in My Biggest Cosplay! #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-28 | Seraphim is my biggest cosplay to date, including the gown, armor and wings... here's how I get dressed in her!My DIY Backyard Pool Cosplay with Zeldas Princess Ruto #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-27 | How we DIYed our backyard pool shoot with my Legend of Zelda Princess Ruto cosplay! Watch part 1 at: youtube.com/shorts/4dMhIMD6I_4
At last the walkthrough for our electronic, glowing bass guitar is done - a cosplay weapon fit for an Adventure Time Vampire Queen! There's a surprising number of pieces for the center of Marcy's axe: instead of filling it with resin like last time, a sheet of acrylic keeps all of the fire glass and resin toward the surface, which not only creates more diffusion over the LEDs, but reduces the amount of heavy materials we need to fill the gaps. All of the electronics are then fed through to the back and housed in a removable compartment, which is nice for travel!
To answer a few questions: Yes, Scone is left-handed, so this is a left-handed bass! No, it does not actually play; it's just for cosplay!Making Marceline the Vampire Queens Bass pt 1 #cosplay #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-21 | Making Marcy's Axe Bass Pt 1! Watch part 2 at: youtube.com/shorts/huKSlO4aars
Unlike last time, Bass 2.0 is made from three stacked pieces of wood, hand-cut and then sanded down into a blade, which was a VERY long process! With such a weird shape we used a lot of different tools, including this adorable mini-belt sander. The center of the bass will be filled with lights and resin, and this wood shell will be a much stronger material to hold it than our previous 3d printed version. Next for part 2: the electronics! My fav Halloween cosplay: The Dunkin Knight Armor! #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-20 | Is it still pumpkin spice season? π This is always the best time to wear our Dunkin' inspired cosplay armor: it's the only time of year you can get away with walking around the streets of Boston and nobody thinks twice about it!Getting Dressed in my Dunkin Donuts Cosplay Armor #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-19 | It's pumpkin season so time to show how I get dressed in My Dunkin-inspired knight armor - aka our Boston superhero costume! β Designed and made by me. #halloween #shortsOur FAVORITE cosplay shoes for giant gowns! #shortsCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay2022-10-13 | What are our favorite cosplay shoes that are both tall and comfy? Uploaded to YT a little late, but I wanted to talk about this here too! I wanted to make a mini video about age & cosplay, especially for those who've gotten hate for being "too old" or are worried about aging out. To that I say that you never grow out of doing what you love, be it DIYing, crafts, or creating fashion! So much emphasis is placed on cute, youthful photography but cosplay and costuming as a hobby is SO much more than that now, and there are parts that only get better with experience! I'm having so much more fun crafting things now as a 37 year old vs what I was able to do 10 years ago, so for anyone who's worried about their age, remember that you have so much to look forward to as an older cosplayer! πLets Talk Sergers and Cosplay!
