MISSISSIPPI STATE CAPITOL Drone Video your5best 2021-01-09 | In 1900, Mississippi Governor Andrew Longino convinced the legislature that Mississippi deserves a world class capitol building. So, on the site of the old state penitentiary, the capitol was erected. It cost $1-million in 1990, which is about $30-million in today's dollars - paid for in cash from a settlement awarded for back taxes from the Illinois Central Railroad Company. The Mississippi State Capitol is more than 171,000 square feet, the dome rises 180-feet from the ground, and the eagle at the top is 8-feet tall and 15-feet wide! Guided tours are conducted free of charge by volunteers Monday-Friday at 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM and self-guided tours until 5:00 PM. This is the final video captured of the previous Mississippi state flag flying at the capitol. In June 2020, the state legislature passed State Bill 1796, requiring this flag to be removed and in November 2020, the state voted in a new flag, featuring a magnolia.

NATIONAL MEMORIAL FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE (National Lynching Memorial) Drone Video your5best 2020-11-11 | The National Memorial for Peace and Justice (AKA National Lynching Memorial) is a memorial grounds where we honor Black victims of lynching. Equal Justice Initiative, a nonprofit organization in Montgomery, Alabama, created this project April 26, 2018, as a monument dedicated to acknowledging past racial terrorism and for advocating social justice. At the heart of the monument is Memorial Square, a structure housing 805 steel coffins hanging from the rafters. On each, a lynching event is identified by county, state, and victim's name (or 'unknown' if the name has been lost to history). In the landscaped area are benches dedicated to activists who dedicated their lives to advancing racial justice. There, Americans may sit and reflect upon where we've been and where we're going. Along the main walkway are rows of steel columns which match those hanging in the Memorial. The Equal Justice Initiative aims for each to be relocated to counties where these lynching events occurred, to serve as public education displays - so that we always remember those who paid the ultimate price during some of this nation's darkest days. The National Memorial for Peace and Justice documents more than 4,075 lynchings of Black people from 1877 to 1950. National Memorial for Peace and Justice is the first major work in the nation to honor these victims. It is powerful and moving and 100% worth a visit.

OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING MEMORIAL (Raw Audio) Drone Video your5best 2020-04-02 | (WARNING: CONTAINS PAINFUL REAL AUDIO FROM THE TRAGEDY) April 19, 1995: A truck exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, killing 149 adults and 19 children, and injuring 680 people. The blast damaged 324 buildings in a 16-mile radius, causing more than $650 million in resulting repairs. The two people responsible for the attack were apprehended within 48-hours - one was executed and the other will never leave prison. After demolition of the remaining structure, families of victims tied plush toys, letters, and mementos to the fence surrounding the site. A portion of that fence remains at the memorial and is seen in the video.The Oklahoma City National Memorial opened 5-years later. It features huge walls highlighting "9:01" and "9:03" at opposing entrances, as you walk by the reflecting pool where it all happened at 9:02 AM. The 168 chairs are arranged by which floor each victim was on and represent the now empty chairs at each family's dinner table. Across from the chairs is the 'Survivor Tree', which survived the blast and serves as a monument to the resolve of the great people of Oklahoma City.I grew up in OKC. This was an extremely painful event and re-living the audio and images needed to create this video is heart-wrenching. I will never forget the photo of the fireman carrying a small, bloodied child from the rubble. The fireman is Chris Fields and the child, Baylee Almon, died a short time after. In 1927, it was a movie palace and ballroom. In 1979, U.S. National Register of Historic Places added it as a landmark.Today it is the home of the Indiana Repertory Theatre. The building is a six stories on a concrete frame. Its white terra cotta facade is a curving triangular arch with churrigueresque framing that fills the central bay above the original marquee installed almost a century ago. Inside, the auditorium features an elaborate plaster ornamentation paying homage to Spanish Baroque style. The uppermost level houses the Indiana Roof Ballroom with an elliptical dome and sky effects. Definitely something to visit when in Indianapolis!
INDIANA STATE CAPITOL Drone Video your5best 2020-01-27 | The Indiana State Capitol Grounds opened in 1888 after eight years of construction. Only materials native to Indiana were used. These include doors of Indiana oak and walls of Indiana limestone. The building was wired for electricity, despite the fact Indianapolis didn’t have an electrical power grid just yet. The building’s cornerstone is a ten-ton block of limestone from Spencer, Indiana, and the day before the Capitol opened, a hole was bored into the cornerstone and filled with a time capsule of 42-items (crops, coins, a map, newspaper, Indianapolis history book, and a Bible). Until 1962, the Capitol was the tallest building in Indiana until the City-County Building of Indianapolis opened. After the Revolutionary War, 1,250 acres of land at the mouth of Elk River was sold to Colonel Clendenin, who built the first settlement here, called Fort Lee in 1787. Charlestown got its name from the Colonel's father, Charles, when officially proclaimed in the 1793 Virginia General Assembly. When Virginia seceded from the Union in 1861, the western parts of Virginia, like Charleston, had mixed loyalties. Charleston changed hands twice during the Civil War and Lincoln issued a Presidential Proclamation making West Virginia the 35th state in 1863. In 1877, Charleston was chosen as the capital of West Virginia and the Capitol Building grounds were opened eight years later. WEST VIRGINIA CAPITOL BUILDING Drone Video + Charleston, WV your5best 2020-01-10 | The current West Virginia Capitol began construction in 1924 after 65 pieces of downtown Charleston property was purchased between California Ave and Duffy St. After $10 million and eight years, the main building and both wings officially opened in 1932. The capitol holds 530,000 square feet of floor space and 333 rooms in its main unit and two wings. The building encompasses more than 14 acres of floor space. Two thirds of the interior consist of marble. The walls are made of Imperial Danby, and the floors are a combination of white Vermont marble and dark Italian travertine. The Rotunda features a chandelier hanging from a 54-foot brass and bronze chain. The 4,000-pound chandelier is eight feet in diameter, made of 10,080 pieces of Czechoslovakian crystal, and illuminated by 96 light bulbs. Work began in January 2018 to repair major water damage and structural problems inside the dome. The state awarded the $13.52 million project to the second-lowest bidder, Pullman Power of Pittsburgh, who said they'd complete the work by January 2019. However, engineers discovered that clay tile used in walls of the Capitol dome and stairways as firewalls was breaking up, presenting a safety hazard. This placed an additional $9.48 million price tag on the project and slated completion for December 2019. As of January, 2020, the project has been more than $26 million and there's no end in sight.

The bikers rode from Ala Moana Beach Park, through Waikiki, and ended in Kakaako Park. The half-mile to the top is covered by shade trees and filled with unique foliage. Kids and dogs can definitely do this hike , as there are rope hand rails and solid steps; but, it DEFINITELY gets muddy after ANY rain. Plan accordingly! The first pillbox is just 30 minutes into the hike and offers spectacular views of the Pacific. Find your way five minutes north to the second pillbox for the truly awesome sunset view. Many people have trouble finding this one; but look for some marked trees and a single parking sign covered in stickers to know you're on the right track. Continue on the surrounding trails for a 2-mile loop and more unique plants you truly can't find anywhere else!
BYODO-IN TEMPLE + Valley of the Temples Drone Video Tour your5best 2019-12-16 | August 1968 - the 100-year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii - marked the grand opening of this non-denominational Buddhist temple on the island of O'ahu below the Ko'olau Mountain Range. It is a replica of the Uji in Kyoto Prefecture Temple in Japan, which is now more than 900 years old. While this temple doesn't host a monastery or hold a congregation, it does see more than one million visitors each year. Inside, an eighteen feet statue of Lotus Buddha (Amitābha) is covered in gold lacquer and surrounded by flowers. Outside sits the three-ton, brass peace bell which is said to give one good luck when rung. The Koi ponds surrounding the temple are the largest in Hawaii and host more than one thousand fish. Founded in 1963, the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, is the largest burial grounds on O'ahu. These sacred grounds entomb Buddhists, Shinto, Protestants and Catholics and feature statues of the Passion of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and eleven saints. Here are buried some of Hawaii's most famous sons and daughters. Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos is interred here at a private mausoleum overlooking the Byodo-In temple.
