That Next Place is one of the best themes in film music history that I am know. Such great melodies and this is one of the longest Thomas Newman piece I know from the great Thomas Newman. This is the last project of Ryuichi Sakamoto (January 17, 1952 – March 28, 2023) for the Japanese Horror movie Monster.More than the film was directed by the critically acclaimed Kore-Eda, what made “Monster” even more special was that it was the last scoring project of Japanese composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto. It featured a haunting score by Sakamoto.Kore-Eda described his collaboration with Sakamoto as a “longtime wish that finally came true”. Sakamoto used songs from his new album “12” and old songs to compose the whole scoring. In the end, he submitted two piano pieces, as per the request of Kore-Eda.Sakamoto was known for winning international awards including Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.It can also be remembered that Suga of BTS also tapped Sakamoto for his debut studio album, D-Day.Two months before the release of Monster, Sakamoto died on March 28, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. R.I.P. legendary composer.Also when I just started out playing the piano I played quite some material from Ryuichi Sakamoto. The Last Emperor cue is phenomial and the Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Babel (Bibo no Aozora) are just a few amazing themes from this amazing composer. There are actually 3 piano solo's written for Yuja Wang by meastro James Newton Howard! It must be a huge honor for a pianist to play these themes for him 🙌I think the piano version is a nice version of the legendary piece Rue's Farewell and is also my favorite cue from the three piano solos. The original Farewell cue is a golden gem of the maestro. I can remember I played this 12 years ago and the video was published back in 2012 (25th of April)! It's crazy how times flies! This was also the year where I have met JNH on the street in Genth! One of the most suprising and best moments in my life. First off all thank you so much for all the people who invested time to fill in the survey! I appreciate it extremely much!It was also interesting to see which themes were selected.I am happy to see that the Candyman score was just in the top 10. And my most personal shocking thing that I saw is that the Hellraiser theme didn't get enough votes to be in the Top 10.The Hellraiser soundtrack is absolutely amazing by Christopher Young. Very underrated in my opinion. Also pinhead is very iconic and I couldn't help myself to show him in the end of the video to share you all a Happy Halloween. The pennywise theme also disturbs and scares me. One of the scariest movies of all time. That clown 🤡 gave me some nightmares when I was young 🎈(I am talking about the 1991 movie!). The saw theme from Charlie Clouser also did a splendid job and is much higher rated then I would personal do, but maybe that also has to do due the new saw x movie that seems to be extremely good.Also the Jason theme was very high ranked, which was very hard to do as most of the soundtrack is sound based and doesn't contain a melody.The Chucky song should be present as well and I think it sounds wonderful for piano.The Freddy Krueger theme is one of my favorites as well and this one is even higher ranked that in my personal top 10! That was making me very happy :-) Freddy Krueger is probably the most iconic horror villian in my opinion. Of course the Michael Myers Theme from the movie Halloween 1978 could not be absent and it's no suprise this theme is on thel ist. Composed by John Carpenter. A true classic horror theme for solo piano.
