Working with Nasa and the European Space Agency (ESA), they say Gliese 12 b has the same temperature as the 2022 UK heatwave and is one of the few known rocky planets where humans could theoretically survive.
But the planet's distance of 40 lights years away means it is too far away to experience more closely, the university said.
Warwick astrophysicist Dr Thomas Wilson said: "This is a really exciting discovery and will help our research into planets similar to Earth across our galaxy."
The planet has an estimated surface temperature of about 42C, but the scientists said they were still unsure of what, if any, its atmosphere was like.
It orbits its version of the sun every 12.8 days and is a similar size to Earth.
The planet’s equivalent of the Sun, called Gliese 12, is a cool, red dwarf located in the constellation Pisces and the planet receives 1.6 times more energy from its star as Earth does from the sun, the university said.
The team used data from Nasa and ESA’s satellites to confirm the planet’s existence and characteristics like its size, temperature and distance away from Earth.

#weatherwatchers #weatherimages #weatherwatchersukBlue plaque nominations open to the public (UK) 24/May/2024Mark 13332024-05-24 | Nominations have been opened for the public to suggest suitable recipients for a blue plaque honour.
The national scheme celebrates people throughout history who made an important and positive contribution to human welfare or happiness.
Historic England said the invitation for nominations would help "more people celebrate their heritage."
Duncan Wilson, the organisation's chief executive, said the plaques capture the "lasting connection" between people and places: "The actual places where this history happens are special, but not always well known."
To mark the opening of nominations, a plaque is being unveiled on Friday at the former childhood home in Liverpool of songwriter, humanitarian and former former Beatle George Harrison.
Many areas have have blue plaque schemes that are run by civic societies, local government or history groups.
The national scheme was announced in September 2023 by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Significant contribution The scheme aims to help those in areas with no plaque scheme to recognise historic figures by opening nominations to the public.
The criteria for public nominations for someone for a plaque include:
*At least 20 years must have passed since the candidate’s death
*They must have made a significant contribution to human welfare or happiness
*At least one building associated with the figure must survive in a form that the commemorated person would have recognised, and it must be visible from a public highway
Under the national scheme blue plaques have been unveiled to midwife Daphne Steele and pottery designer Clarice Cliff.
Nominations are open until 19 July 2024.

The winemaker, Andreas Pernerstorfer, came across a number of huge bones, buried deep in his wine cellar in the village of Gobelsburg, in the district of Krems, west of Vienna.
He reported his find to the authorities, who identified them as the bones of at least three Stone Age mammoths.
Mr Pernerstorfer told the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, ORF, that he was renovating his wine cellar when he made the discovery.
“I thought it was just a piece of wood left by my grandfather. But then I dug it out a bit and then I remembered that in the past my grandfather said he had found teeth. And then I immediately thought it was a mammoth," he said.
Researchers from the Austrian Archaeological Institute have been excavating the bones since the middle of May.
Archaeologists Thomas Einwögerer and Hannah Parow-Souchon say that stone artefacts and charcoal found at the site indicate that the bones are between 30,000 and 40,000 years old.
