On August 23, 1964, Jim Henry and Norma Jean Arnett welcomed their
daughter, Brenda Kay Arnett, into this world. The excitement of her birth
spread through the Arnett household, and through cousins, friends, and
relatives near and far. Brenda was known to be a precocious little girl with a
sassy and contagious personality.
The structured Christian home of the Arnett family guided her intellect and
talents. Brenda was reading by age four and showed great interest in
Sunday school, singing in the choir, and writing stories. The family were
faithful members of The New St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church under
the pastorship of Reverend C.H. Hudson. Brenda accepted Jesus as her
Lord and Savior at the tender age of ten when she was baptized.
After graduating high school in 1982, Brenda advanced her educational
studies at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State
University. She had a love for English and a passion for creative writing.
Although she excelled academically, Brenda would say her greatest
accomplishment was her four children. Brenda loved to sing, to cook, put a
sharp outfit together and made new friends wherever she went.
In 2009, Brenda joined Grace Christian Reformed Church as a loved and
cherished member until God called her home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Throughout her life, Brenda struggled with many health issues and
illnesses. Though her faith was constantly challenged, she had purposed in
her heart to hold onto God’s unchanging hand. Brenda mentioned that her
most painful experiences were losing her Aunt Charlene, her oldest son,
and her only brother last year. Despite these losses, she always affirmed her
faith in God.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Henry and Norma Jean
Arnett, her eldest son, Andre Thomas, and brother, Kevin Arnett. Brenda is
survived by her daughters, Breyona Arnett and Denyia Arnett, son, Jaivian
Fowler, granddaughter, Brielle Lofgren, sister Linda Bryant, and lifelong
best friends, Lisa Liggins and Caroline “Punkin” Woods. Brenda also leaves
to cherish her memory many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Loved Ones and
Friends.
Finding solace in her faith, Brenda leaves behind a legacy of strength and
perseverance. At this point, her final testimony in the word of God could be
described as II Timothy4:7 , "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the
race, I have kept the faith."
Brenda has no more heartaches and no more painful days.
We love her, but God loves her more.

This video is a second installment. In 2023, we held a Zoom conversation with Dan Meeter on “What Should CRC Leaders Know about the RCA?” In it we reviewed Dan’s white paper "Thirty Differences between the RCA and CRC". Written with CRC leaders in mind, we focused on differences in history, polity, and ethos.
