The Wood YogiI have a few different Marking Gauges and this is how I make my Best or Favourite Marking Gauge. I designed it to be a handy size, inexpensive and easy to set up. I use it on almost every project unless the components are too wide for the Cutter. It is perfect for most of my woodworking projects.
I use some Power Tools, but all processes can be adapted to Hand Tools.
It uses a 5mm Chrome Vanadium Allen Key for the Cutter. This works really well and holds an edge for a long time. In fact I have never needed to regrind after a year of daily use :) The rest of the Gauge is made from a couple of small pieces of Hard Wood. I used Ash for the Handle and Birch for the Fence / Face.
It is designed to store away with the cutter recessed into the front of the Fence for safety. This prevents picking the tool up and causing harm or injury, unless it has been stored with the Blade / Cutter exposed.
In this video, I made two as part of a set of tools for my first Giveaway. I promised myself to have a 1000 Subscriber Giveaway in appreciation for the support of my channel.

This is simple method for guiding a drill bit while drilling 90 degrees or a right angle to a surface. I have been using inexpensive metal fixing brackets as a guide for some time and thought it might be useful to share. I also recently designed a simple drill bit guide for making using a 3D printer. The 3D printed component works really well and seems to be holding up to the job, but I decided to fix the metal brackets to the 3D printed component to create a more stable and durable drill bit guide. I used 2 part epoxy to fix the parts together. The 3D printed part could easily be replaced with wood or a similar material to form a handle for the brackets.

I needed to replace the sticking pad on my Random Orbit Sander as the old one would no longer hold sanding disks. It is difficult for me to find these parts locally and they are expensive when I do. I did manage to find one, but I saw the opportunity to experiment with a cheap pad that is designed for using with an angle grinder and only cost 2 Euros. I figured I could salvage parts from the old component and come up with a DIY option. I am happy with the end result and it was not too difficult to make.

My impression of these Tools are that they are of excellent build quality and precise. I like all the Tools in this review and in particular the Multifunction Tool for its versatility. The contrast of Black and White Markings make it really clear for me to view and work with and I think it is a great tool for DIY jobs due to its size.
These Tools are advertised mostly for Woodworking, but they could be very useful in many DIY and craft applications. I would not limit any of these tools to Woodworking, but they are well suited for that purpose.

I really like this style of clamp and wanted to share the method I use to make them. It requires a bit of welding to make the clamping mechanism.
The clamping mechanism is made by welding 12mm nuts to opposite sides of a 14mm coupling. The 12mm nuts hold short lengths of 12mm threaded rod to hold metal bars and act as a hinge. A longer 14mm threaded rod is used to apply force to the workpiece by tightening it using a socket in a drill. The stop end of the clamp is similar only it has a stop block instead of a clamping mechanism. The stop block is as high as the clamping mechanism nuts and as wide as the top wooden bar of the clamp. It is 2.5 times longer than the width. There is a 12mm hole drilled near the beck to receive a 12mm threaded rod. The clamp wooden bars are made of reclaimed pine and have holes drilled at 10cm intervals.

This is one method that I have been making shelves with for many years. It is simple and the shelf is really strong. Most of the pressure is in a downward force onto the brackets, so holding the the shelves by using screws from the back is easily enough.
I hope the video shows the process clearly as it can be easily adapted to different dimensions of both the shelf and materials.

Here is a great woodworking beginner project. I used reclaimed scraps of Pine to make these Sauna mats / duckboards. There are no set dimensions as the method works for seats or mats of all sizes. They are made by cutting similar size strips of wood and fixing them together by threading paracord through matching drilled holes for each piece.
Sauna Duckboards are used as a personal sitting surface in steam rooms or cabinets or most types of Sauna and can be stored away after use. The style I make in this video makes them easy to roll up for transport.
We use steam baths and saunas regularly as a form of therapy and especially for cleansing and to assist in detoxification.
I don't use any finish on the mats and simply wipe them down after each session before hanging to dry.

Chris ॐFanttik NEX L1 PRO - New Electric Screwdriver ReviewThe Wood Yogi2020-09-07 | --- Details in the description below --- Subscribe --- Like --- Share ---
This is my review of Fanttik's newest screwdriver the Fanttik Nex L1 Pro One of the worlds first smart-control electric cordless screwdrivers. The screwdriver has a list of features and I wanted to test if it can perform as described. It easily past all the tasks I set for it and I am very impressed by this tool.
I forgot to mention in the video that this screwdriver is really comfortable to hold and work with for me.
The screwdriver is on offer as part of a promotion on Indigogo and if you are interested in purchasing one, here is the link: tinyurl.com/y47thth9
The case is well designed and very neat to store.
The screwdriver has a digital display to show the direction, power and battery level.
It has a 3rd generation magneto rare earth motor with variable speed from 0-220rmp with electronic break .
The smart torque control has 6 settings between 0.5N.m and 6N.m and is set by pressing a button to select the desired level from 6 settings
Forward and reverse is easily selected by pressing a button at the rear and I really like this feature.
It has a 18650 2000mAh battery and is charged by connecting a USB C cable. This makes it easy to charge from various adapters and while on the move.
The manual says that the screwdriver can drive up to 260 3.5 screws on a single charge on White Pine. I managed to drive 311 screws. I began with 32mm screws and including many 45mm long as I ran out of 32mm. I stopped as I had other things to do, but the screwdriver still had power left to carry on.
I next tried the torque settings by using 75mm size 5 screws and as can be seen in the video, it works very well.
The screwdriver has a 360 degree ring light and includes 13 bits and an extension. A USB C type cable is included also. I managed to charge the screwdriver in around 1 hour 10 minutes, but it still had power left when I started the charging.
The Shark Chuck is described as 'shark drill lock design' This mechanism prevents the bit from coming loose or falling out. I like this feature even more than magnetic types.
I've been asked not to compare it with other brands, as to cause a misunderstanding for viewers.
I like the idea of reviewing Tools and other products, especially if it is a Tool that is not easily found or readily available in some countries. If you have a product that you would like me to review then please contact me to arrange it.

I found this idea in a book that I borrowed from a Library and wanted to use it. This is one of the easiest woodworking projects to try. I cut out profiles of birds and drew some silhouettes from prints onto scraps of Pine wood.
My Wife and Son painted designs on them and they are simply nailed to fences and raised beds around the garden to add some decoration.
I think they are a cheerful touch to the garden. The only problem is that some of the birds have gone missing and other have been damaged. I wonder who it could have been 😁

I made a video to review this new woodworking marking tool recently and I wondered if it could hold a blade or knife for scribing. Some of my subscribers commented about similar ideas, so I decided to make a simple one to test if it would work.
This is what I came up with. I woodturned a 7mm spindle from Hard Maple and shaped a small Marking Knife from a piece of old Bandsaw Blade.
The Tube that holds a Pencil has a good tight grip on the knife spindle, but when mounted in the Marking Tool holder it is Spring Loaded and has the possibility to move, although this didn't seem to be a problem and the idea worked well.
I will experiment at a later time with different shape and length of Knives to try and fine tune the idea. At the least I managed to make a nice and small Marking Knife to add to my Tools.

I have been using methods of Moxibustion for over 40 years and as a therapist I find its use for various problems very helpful. A common method is to use a Mugwort Stick also called a Moxa Pole or Cigar. There are many types that can be purchased but I prefer to make my own, as I show during the video.

I saw this Blanket Chest for 8 Euros and had to buy it. It is full of character, but had no Drawer knobs. Of course I didn't mind this as it gave me the opportunity to add something of my own to it. I don't know how old it is, but as you can see from the joinery and especially the dovetails, it was built to be a functional piece of furniture with a beautiful exterior. I have an idea that the Drawers are veneered with book matched figured Birch because the Chest is Sweden originally and Birch would have been a common choice for this style of work. I selected Hard Maple to make the Knobs as it will darken to a close match over time and is very durable for regular use.

Here is a really handy mini tool for woodworking or for many other crafts. It is an easy project that requires basic skill using hand tools only. These small sized awl's are fantastic for delicate work, but also very useful for marking or piercing in general. A great little project for the power tool woodworker and they make superb gifts.
Any scrap piece of hardwood works as a good handle and this can be shaped to whatever design you like. I use a small hardened masonry nail for the spike / pin and fix it in using 2 part epoxy, but I'm sure other glues would work well with a bit of experimentation. Make sure to drill the hole for the spike before you shape the handle. I finish the wooden handle using linseed oil.

I can't think of a better reason for learning woodwork other than being able to fix up old toys in hurry :)
I hope the video speaks for itself :)
This was an essential project, as it brought instant relief to a disastrous situation. A Broken Wooden Toy.
My son inherited this old wooden train and puts it through it's paces. It maybe collectable, but he uses it for what it was made for. I intentionally left the new wheel an odd colour from the rest to remember the repair process in the future. It has a story that can be past on, or maybe leave the future owner guessing about it.

Mark is the reason I am focusing on luthiery once again and I thank him so much for inspiring and communicating with me regularly. I have built a lot of musical instruments over the years, but took a break from it for a long while. I inherited a few of my Dad's old tools and began to work with wood once again and of course planned to pick up instrument making from the point I left it. I'm interested in all forms of sound making objects, but mostly acoustic and folk instruments. I believe Mark is a great instrument builder and creates fantastic pieces with whatever material he has available. He also has a brilliant sense of humour that always brings a smile to all that follow his projects. Make sure to subscribe to his channel :)
--------
In the first part of this video, I was splitting wood during the winter. It was around -20C and I needed to process firewood at the same time. The wood I am saving is more than 200 years old. Mostly Spruce beams and Floorboards. This is my way of recycling and re-purposing such good material in order to harvest parts for musical instrument building. At that time I was looking for pieces to make soundboards and tops from. I had already split many large pieces and what you see is a small selection for smaller instruments.
The next section of the video was filmed a few days ago as I prepared brace material for future acoustic instruments. The wood has hundreds of growth rings per inch. Something that is rare to find today. It is well seasoned (more than 200 years) You may be able to detect from the sound in the video that the wood has a great tonal quality and is very light and strong still. Modern methods of torrefaction are used to replicate aged wood to a similar state of the material I am salvaging and I hope to use the wood to build many nice instruments in the future.
I created a lot of stock material form this reclaimed timber and I will show how I store and use it in future videos.
I plan to create many future videos on this subject along with instrument builds that may be followed for those interested. I need to build a Mountain Dulcimer for myself and will try to film the entire process as one of the first instruments I make.
If you would like to see something specific to this subject then please comment below. I think this is going to be a fun journey :)

I made this little project over a year ago and finally found the time to edit and upload it. My son was 3 years old and wanted a microphone to sing along to.
This is a simple build for a woodturner. A handsaw could be used to create the mess pattern on the top instead of a bandsaw. A woodworker could also create this toy with the use of a spokeshave and chisel after a little imagination.
I drilled a hole in the base and inserted a length of string fixing it with hot glue.
A pipe fitting on the top of a brush pole makes a fantastic microphone holder and a simple base completes the stand.

After a lot of wall and ceiling plastering, I needed to sand a lot of walls and looked to find a sanding block that would make the work easier, but I could not find anything locally, so decided to adapt a cheap sanding block to do the job.
I also wanted to be able to use the tool while standing on the floor and made it to be used with an extending pole / handle.
I used a cheap abrasive sand paper block / holder that I bought locally, but I think the technique or method demonstrated in the video could easily be used to adapt other styles of sanding blocks and possibly with a wooden shop made one.
The result was excellent and it works extremely well. It made the job of finishing the dry wall plastering much easier.
I hope the idea is useful to people living in regions that do not have easy access to such tools.

My impression of the tool is that it is of excellent build quality and precise. It is simple and quick to set up and use.
I have had this Jig for a while and I love it. It makes work really easy for me.
The Jig comes as a set to use with 6mm, 8mm and 10mm Dowels. It is heavy and solid and extremely accurate.
The Jig enables the construction of edge to edge and end to end joinery and the ability to accurately join pieces of work in an L or T configuration.
The Jig also has the capability to make Knock Down style Furniture using the Furniture Fitting Cabinet Connectors which is a Cam System Housing Connector.
All components are made of high quality materials, mostly Aluminium / Alloy and the Dowel Bushings are made of hardened steel.
The Jig is very easy to set up and has provided me with repeatable accurate joinery when I have used it.
I will be using this Dowel Jig for many future projects, some of which I have already started and very happy with the results.
For a beginner to woodworking, I would say the Jig is a great addition if complex joinery seems daunting.

As part of our ongoing house renovation, my Wife asked me to make a hanger for our son to put his coat, bags and other things. As usual, I didn't have a plan or sketch, but I did have an idea to create something with clowns.
I think the process should be easily understood from watching the video, but if you have any questions then please comment below. I will be happy to answer :)
I made the coat hanger project from reclaimed wood and designed it as I went along.

Banggood sent me this Heated Vest to test out and to show to my Subscribers.
If you like the product and are interested in buying one for yourself then please use my Banggood affiliate link below. As an affiliate, I will enjoy a small return for any purchases made via this link.
I'm looking forward to testing the Vest more during the Winter.
To keep the price of the product low, the Vest does not come supplied with any form of power. You will need to provide your own 5V Power Bank.
Power Banks are becoming cheaper and a lot of options are now available. The capacity of the Power Bank will determine how long the Vest will heat for.
I already own a few Power Banks that I bought locally and the one I use with this Vest is compact and has a rating of 10000mha. This is plenty of power to run the Vest for a good length of time. While testing the vest, I used different heat settings over a three hour period and the Power Bank still had plenty of charge left.
The Vest has two pockets in the front, with the power source cable in the left pocket.
When the power is initially connected, the Selector Button / Switch will flash. The Vest is switched on by holding the button for a few seconds.
Heated Panels are located in the lower front as well as the lower and upper back areas of the Vest. The Vest heats up fast and is at full heat in less than one minute.
The heat settings are changed by pressing the Power Button and indicated by a different colour for each setting.
Red = Full level heat Blue = Medium level heat Green = Low level heat
The Jacket is switched off by holding the button for a few seconds.
The Vest is lightweight. I like this because I do not like to wear heavy or bulky clothing while I'm working.
Here you can find a link to a Power Bank similar to the one I use with the Vest
I suggest purchasing a size larger than usual as Chinese sizing may be smaller. I would usually buy a size S and decided to go with size M. The size M fits me well and is comfortable enough for me to move at full range without restriction. This is an important aspect for me.

This toy is an idea that my wife had for a simple building skill toy. It didn't take long to make and is easy for a child to use.
I used reclaimed Pine and burned numbers onto the locks with my Homemade Pyrography Machine.
I think that painting each section would also be a good idea to help a child recognise the form of the complete toy.
The base was an afterthought, as the built arch would collapse without side supports and it also provides a reference for starting to build the arch.
Wooden toys are great fun to make and an easy project for a beginner to woodworking.

My impression of the tool is that it is of excellent quality and precise. It is useful in many situations for measuring and marking, as I have demonstrated in the video and I can recommend it if you are looking for a tool that is similar.
The tool has a ruler with measurements in 5 mm increments up to 160mm. The marking holes begin at 5mm and up to 160mm in 1mm increments. I checked the tools accuracy against existing squares that I have and it is very accurate. It is solid to hold and there are two Allen screws for adjustment if the tool should need setting after knocking or dropping etc.
Instead of simply reviewing this tool, I wanted to show how easy it is to use and especially in creating or building a woodworking project with. I decided on a quick educational toy known as a Geoboard. A Geoboard is a mathematical manipulative used to explore basic concepts in plane geometry and useful in education. It fits very well into systems such as the Montessori and Waldorf school and is ideal for all students including home study or home schooling.

I wanted to show the method I use for cutting round stock on the Bandsaw after I watched a recent video of an excellent Jig designed by Rob at Make Things
Cutting round stock on a Bandsaw can be very dangerous as the blade can grab the material and pull fingers in toward the blade. It can also damage the blade and the machine.
I am not recommending the method I demonstrate in the video. I simply want to show the method I use and that it works for me.
You will notice that the wood I cut is scorched after I cut it, as it is a really dry, hard piece of Ash and I am waiting for a new blade for the Bandsaw.

Description HERE
Here is a simple way to create supports for your craft or hobby work. These help to support the work while applying a finish to the surface of a material such as wood.
They make minimal contact with the surface that is resting on them and can be made quickly using scrap or reclaimed / recycled wood.
These are an easy DIY tool project and great for a beginner to woodworking I did not apply a finish to mine as I like the rustic wood look.
I like to use bench cookies sometimes, but these small pointed triangle shaped supports are great for a small craft project and with them being very easy to make and inexpensive, you can make as many as you need from scrap or recycled wood. An ideal DIY reclaimed wood project.
The dimensions of the ones I made in the video are: 40mm Wide 50mm High including a Base of 10mm Make as many as you need and have fun :)

My 4 year old Son and I made a simple boat. It gave us both the opportunity to learn new skills. We drew a basic Boat shape on a piece of Reclaimed Wood and fixed a dowel into it. A piece of Paper was used to make a sail.
The project gave my son the chance to experience how different tools work. We usually always begin with a talk about safety. I set the drill on a slow speed to make sure their was no chance of chips hitting us as we needed to buy new safety glasses due to breaking the last pair. I have many years experience and trust my judgment, but I advise always to make sure that children were eye protection.
I always explain that sharp blades can cut wood easily and that wood is harder than the skin on our fingers. I therefor try to hold and cover his hands far from the blade to make sure their is no slipping or that he reaches out due to being distracted.
Work safely and enjoy making things together :)
